Another day, more wandering around. To be honest, Chiamaka was getting rather tired of Ayo's disappearances. Sure, she was old enough to take care of herself a bit more now, but that didn't mean that she didn't miss the other's company.
It was boring just sitting around in the oasis alone.
And she'd been toying with the idea of leaving for good, wondering ... if he would even notice. Ah well. Probably not today, it was too hot to go very far.
Still, though, she was tired of being cooped up and so had left for a while, just to take a look around.

 Dubu'mwana had yet to find a place in Africa that really agreed with him. If it wasn't too hot, it was raining. Neither sat well with the rather shaggy, dark hyena. He sighed. Today was one of those 'hot' days. And so...he was in search of shade.
Dubu had been searching for a while, plodding on only because he knew there had to be shade somewhere. Sadly, in his single-minded search, he didn't notice the purple lioness as he turned his head to look around...
And he immediately ran into her back legs. He yipped in surprise and backed up, brown eyes wide.
"Sorry..."

Chia had also not been paying attention for the moment, gazing out over the plains from a small rise and trying to decide what direction to wander off in. So when something suddenly bumped into her legs, she made a little startled noise and spun around.
Eyes widened and she crouched a bit, staring at this strange creature. She had heard of hyenas before but had never seen one herself. So she wasn't quite sure what Dubu was...

Dubu stared back at the lioness, blinking. "Uhm...hi..." The shaggy hyena shook himself and smiled. "Sorry for running into you. I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going."
He made something like a bow. "I'm Dubu'mwana." It was strange...this one didn't look quite full grown. And yet she was on her own. Even his sisters weren't allowed on their own before they were full grown. And as far as he knew, lions were rather protective of their own...

Chiamaka relaxed and stood up again, smiling at that. "It's ok, no harm done," she replied, shaking her head a bit. She hadn't though that hyenas would be so polite either! She'd heard stories, after all ... but Chia was willing to change her view.
"Hi to you too," she said then, dipping her head. "I'm Chiamaka."

Dubu was relieved. He'd never much liked ticking others off...Especially females. His mother had been especially keen on teaching him respect for females, since he'd been bigger than a normal male. He smiled at the lioness.
"It's nice to meet you, Chiamaka." He looked around, a little confused. "Why are you alone?"

Chia blinked at that and then quickly had to force back a sort of frown. She was alone now ... he was right. With Ayo never really around... But she shouldn't be thinking that way. She was just fine on her own.
"Well... right now I'm just looking around, but usually there's another lion that I stay with. There's an oasis back that way a bit ... we live there."

So she wasn't really alone. That made Dubu a little less nervous. "That's good. I've got a den set up near a watering hole a bit that way." He motioned his head in the direction of the watering hole.
"First time I've wandered this far, however. Nice to know I have neighbors of sorts." His quest for interesting looking objects and new lore had lead him here. And he'd found it...kinda. Meeting others counted as new lore to him.

Chiamaka nodded slightly at that and smiled. "So ... do you like alone?" she asked then, almost turning his own question back on him. She was curious, never having really met a creature like him before. But from what she could tell, he seemed to be young, like she was.
Not that she didn't think he could probably take care of himself or anything like that.

Dubu shrugged. "It's...okay. I would rather be around friends...but I haven't met someone who wanted to be my friend outside my family." Most creatures tended to avoid him because of his species, and other hyenas found his slow and curious nature to be...well, odd. So he had no friends, to speak of.
He smiled calmly. "What about you?"

Chiamaka shrugged in an odd mirror of the hyena's own movement. "I guess my answer would probly be the same as yours. I mean... there's Ayo, but he's gone a lot. And ... I kind of wish that I had more friends."
She blinked, then tilted her head a bit. "Hey... could we be friends?"

Dubu blinked, than nodded. "I don't see why not." He smiled and chuckled. "We're both friendly creatures, so it makes good sense." A lioness for a friend...it was certainly interesting! He wondered what they could do as friends...ah!
"Have you ever seen some of the things that get washed down the river not far from here?"

"The river? Nooo ... I've only seen the part that's closer to here," Chia answered slowly, smiling. She didn't really find it odd to have a hyena for a friend - as no one had ever told her they were supposed to be enemies or anything.
Bouncing just a little, she flicked tail. "Show me?"

The hyena nodded and started towards the river, a happy expression on his face. He liked showing others the things that could be found! Especially the ones with lots of little bits. Those were the most intriguing.
"Creatures called hoo-mans loose them upriver...and they end up downriver. They make such interesting things." He chuckled. "I'm told they look like hairless, tailess baboons, so it makes sense."

"Hoo-mans..?" Chia repeated slowly, blinking at the other. She'd never ever heard of such a creature! And they sounded like they looked pretty funny too.
"I think someone told you a story..." she said after a moment. "After all, it doesn't make much sense! How could they survive with no fur or tails?"
