While fledglings are not nearly as hungry as hatchlings they are still growing and need their food. A nest has been temporarily reassigned to a feeding station of sorts and hungry fledglings can come here for a snack. There's both Skurri and squirrel to be had, and with that in mind the feeding station is supervised to make sure not all meat goes down the same hungry beak...

OOC notes: Limited use of NPC fledglings is ok.

The young gatherer stood proudly over the cache of food that filled the feeding station. Of course the little ones would need snacks while all this celebration was going on and Twilla eagerly volunteered. She loved serving the clan in whatever duties she could perform and to help aid in providing these young sentinels with a night of fun absolutely delighted her.

Her pack sat empty in the far reaches of the station, as she had used it to bring a load of nuts, berries, and mushrooms with her before the night's festivities began.

The blue streaked shadow gatherer dipped her head and preened a wing cheerfully. Auze and Tikki sat at her talons with their ears perked. The mus and skurri had come to help Twilla and Willow keep an eye on the food.

"This will be wonderful! And Jester is performing, too!" The content shadow rambled happily.

Willow shuffled carefully over to the side of the other Sentinel, amber eyes scanning the area just before them. He was a little late to the whole ordeal, but duty and called and he had to respond. He was content now, however, to be here; he had wanted to help out with the Festival more than anything, after all. The Sentinel wasn't quite the "warm and fuzzy" type, but he loved seeing the happy, healthy faces of the clan's youth wandering about.

As his eyes roved over the food on the table, he gave a nod to the other. "Hello," he stated, listening as Oak landed just next to him, folding his tiny leather wings to his body. The chirop let out a series of soft squeaking noises, distracting the Sentinel for a moment. "This seems like quite the feast for the fledglings." A soft laugh came from his throat in a half-attempt to let himself relax and enjoy the Festival. "I'm sure that this event is going to be great, am I right?"

"You are!" Twilla replied enthusiastically. She looked over the food, then to the fledglings that were wandering out to see the bards. "This is such a wonderful little event! The fledgling in me wants to go and sit with them!" The cheery gatherer replied as she preened a few feathers along her chest.

"Ah! Where are my manners! My name is Twilla, gatherer." She dipped her head in a bow.

Willow let out a soft laugh, shifting his weight back and forth where he stood before settling down again. "Yes; I as well. The entire thing is more than any fledgling could wish for, after all." He reached his beak down to preen a few of the feathers on his striped wing, then back up to watch a few more of the younger Sentinels drift about. Oak chirped excitedly at his side, beady black eyes darting from one thing to the next.

"Twilla? It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Willow," he replied, also tipping his head to her in greeting, "A medic."

A stressed Mist Minder landed on the edge of the nest and interrupted the introductions.

"Twilla?" she said, "Twilla the gatherer? A Chirop just arrived, you are needed elsewhere."

As Twilla departed the Minder took her place in the nest, swivelling her head around as if she was looking for something or someone.

"Oh dear, oh dear," she mumbled to herself, ear tufts twitching, before realising she should probably say something to the Shadow. "Oh, I'm sorry. Ivy, Ivy is my name."

Willow's ear tufts twitched a bit as the newest Sentinel arrived, amber eyes watching as Twilla left the area. It was common to be called away for whatever reason, so the large Shadow Medic paid little mind to it. Sure, he didn't get a chance to get to know her, but there would be other times when he could do such things.

"Ivy?" he inquired, listening as the Minder spoke, "I am Willow." He tipped his head to her, before ruffling his wings a bit to preen gently at them. He settled back in his spot, flicking his tail feathers back and forth quickly to adjust them. The Chirop beside him chattered a bit, bouncing where he sat. The Sentinel laughed softly. "And my little friend here is Oak. It's a pleasure."

"Willow and Oak," the female repeated and nodded, smiling towards the Chirop, "Nice names. Very nice. Why a few seasons ago I had so many Oaks running around I thought they would drive me batty."

She laughed shrilly but then suddenly started to preen her chest feathers as if she wanted to hide.

"Ahem... Yes..." Finished with her preening she looked around surveying the area for any sign of trouble or danger. When everything appeared to be in order Ivy once again turned her attention back to the male.

"Willow... Willow..." she said thoughtfully and tilted her head sideways, "You're the medic that was stationed here for the day, yes?"

The Chirop at his side chirped excitedly at the recognition, contentedly fluttering his wings for a moment before settling back down. The Sentinel clicked his beak a couple times, listening to the Minder's short story. He too preened at a few more of his feathers before ruffling his wings and tail feathers, adding a bit of a windswept look to them.

"Yes, I am," he replied to her inquiry, "I don't have a huge range of experience in the ways of food and fledglings, but I figured that I'd be handy enough should someone get cut or scraped." A soft sound like a laugh came from his throat, feet shifting a bit where he stood.

Ivy sighed at the thought of possible emergencies.

"You wouldn't believe what they get up to," she said, clacking her beak. "Cuts and scrapes are just the start of it. No broken bones yet this season luckily!"

The Medic had unknowingly opened up for a monologue about Ivy's favourite topic: The trouble young ones always got themselves into.

"Why there's one fledgling that will try to swallow everything in sight," she said, starting to get really worked up, "Could get dangerous! I minded the little rascal a few times when he was a hatchling and he'd try to gobble down anything if we didn't feed 'im quickly enough."

"And then there was this Shadow a few seasons ago," she said, seemingly without any need to breathe between sentences, "She tried to pluck her younger siblings if she went unsupervised for more than a few heartbeats. Imagine that! I had to sit on one of the bald ones through that winter."

The female paused to preen her ruffled feathers into place again, giving Willow a chance to reply to her rant.

Willow listened to the Minder as she rambled and ranted, half amused, and half in agreement. Most youngsters just didn't seem to understand what kind of stress they put upon their guardians, after all. A soft chuckled came from his beak.

"Exactly," he replied, nodding his head in agreement, "They're always getting into something, you know; whether its just getting too dirty, or roughhousing with their siblings and friends... you know, all of those things." He paused a second, thinking hard. "Why, I mean, when I was younger, we sometimes fooled around a bit, but it's just not the same as it used to be."

"I had a fledgling in the other day," he stated off-handedly, "Got roughhousing around too much and broke his little leg." A soft tsk-tsk came from his beak. "Fidgeted an awful lot when I tried to fix it just right, that one did. Finally got him to calm down, though, thank heavens."

Ivy gasped in horror when Willow mentioned the broken leg.

"Goodness me! What would the poor thing have done if it had been his wing, huh? Why, not so long ago, if I remember correctly, there was a little girl who broke her chest bone." Ivy's ear tufts sank even further back than they had been before, and she shook her head and clacked her beak with great sympathy. "The poor thing missed every chance to learn to fly along with all her friends, but she was certainly lucky to be able to learn to fly at all after something like that!"

She sent Willow a worried glance. "Will he be all right? The little one that you treated recently, I mean? He will need those legs for hunting. They never do think before they leap..." She paused again and nervously preened a few more chest feathers.

"Mmm, yes," Willow replied, nodding in agreement, "He was very lucky indeed. Luckily for him it should heal quite quickly; he should be completely fine within three or four weeks." Sure, it was a large lapse of time, but it was much better than being paralyzed for life at such a young age. He would recover, hopefully, without problem, and be able to return to learning the ways of the skies with the other fledglings.

Reaching down to preen his chest feathers, his amber eyes roved the area just about them. "Yes, yes, he will be just fine, I do believe; It wasn't a serious wound, just enough to put him off his feet for a while." In all honesty, the Sentinel had never treated a grievous, life-threatening wound; something he didn't want to have to do any time in the near future. Having another's life at your wing tips? A little too much excitement for him.

The patchy little aberrant arrives (from the high perch) with little fanfare or fuss, landing neatly at the edges and taking a few moments to preen and re-settle her feathers while she glances around the temporary feeding station. She spies a few fledglings over there, squabbling over what appears to be a piece of squirrel or skurri, and a couple of adults over at the other side. Chaperones.

Hesitant to go near the fledglings (just in case they make fun of her) or the adults (just in case they try to chase her away), Dodger opts for the middle ground. She stands tall, walking proud and erect the way that her teacher Hawthorn does, and makes her way towards a pile of plump mice.

The patchy fledgling is hard to miss, and Ivy has seen her before. She's trouble that one, or used to be. She's much bigger than she was when the minder last saw her.

"The whiteness," Ivy hisses to Willow, a bit too loud for a whisper, "But she's less afflicted than the poor male a few seasons ago. I heard he wanted to become a Medic to try to cure it."

Passing on rumours is another favourite pastime for Ivy, but when she sees where the sick female is heading she decides to take action instead of just talking.

She anxiously waddles closer to the pile of mice and takes the fattest one in her beak, carefully placing it a bit closer to the poorly female.
