The early morning air was cool for spring, and the whisper of a breeze lingering beneath the trees even cooler, but the rising sun promised a warm afternoon to come. Above, layer upon layer of light-dappled leaves brushed against the dome of the sky, while below, down a steep-sided bank, water ribboned over the smooth green stones of a shallow creek.

Rilya didn't want to get too close to the water - however short the drop, the idea of falling sent a vaguely realized shiver down her spine - and so the little Usdia was cropping grass a healthy distance away in the sunlight. But her hooves gradually moved ever nearer to the interestingly whorled root patterns of the trees on the opposite bank, until in what seemed like no time at all she was precariously perched on the very bank itself, mere hooflengths from danger.

The roots were worn smooth by the current, zealously clutching at the earth not already eroded away so thickly that barely any earth could be seen between their questing fingers. And the water... if she stared at the water for long enough, it felt as if she too was rushing, rushing onward on some everlasting journey to the sea. The thought made her dizzy for a moment, and she closed her eyes in case the water really did try to rush her along with it. It really was such a nice sound, wasn't it, with the trees and the moving creek... Before she knew it, Rilya had half drifted off on her feet, blissfully unaware of her surroundings.

Azhar's sky blue eyes looked around as he walked. Tehre wasn't much to look at, but he was looking at it. His tan ears flicked forwards then back at the sounds that were being made. He hadn't ever gone this far away from where his mother figure told him to stay, though now he was older and was allowed to leave that spot.

The top hat on his head sat crookedly and his bow tie was tiled to the side a little. His white and black hooves kept walking, but the usdia stallion didn't quite know where they were taking him. All he knew was that he was getting more lost as they continued on. The sights and smells overwhelmed the stallion as he walked on. Azhar blinked then looked ahead at whatever might be there.

Not too many things were ahead of him either. Azhar closed his eyes and thought about how dashing he looked. At the moment he didn't look nearly as dashing as he could look, but there were no mares around to try to impress. The stallion stayed alert so that if there were any mares that happened to show up he could fix his bow and hat. An ear twisted towards the sound of a bee buzzing by. His eyes followed the bee and he decided to start following it to wherever it might lead.

"Hmmmm..." She sighed blissfully, eyes still lidded and mind in the midst of a confused image of leaf-dapples and birdsong and rushing water. Rilya worried little about the past or future at the best of times, and at times like this she was perfectly content to let herself drift along carelessly on whatever thread of thought caught her attention next. This was going to be such a good day, she could tell. Well, they were all good days for the wandering Usdia, of course, but this was going to be better. This was going to be special - something in the air today said so, she thought with a sort of lazy curiosity.

Azhar's eyes scanned the area. He couldn't find anything interesting out this day. No foals, nor mares to show off his excellent beauty to. His eyes continued to scan, but still nothing. Purple and white caught his eyes. They squinted to try to get a better look, either a foal or a usdia. A smile fromed on his face and he straightened himself up. His hat was now in place and his bow was perfect on his neck. Casually, he trotted up to the purple and white mare.

Grass rustling. Hooves rustling. The sound jerked Rilya unceremoniously out of her daydreams, and her gold eyes flickered back open in search of its source. Something black was approaching, bobbing above a pale-colored form. She blinked, and the vision resolved itself into another usdia, of all things - but what a strange one!

What were those things he was wearing called? "A hat, and a... a.. bow?" She whinnied softly with amusement, though it was meant more at herself and at the silly words than at the usdia in front of her. "Why do you have those?"

She had, of course, completely forgotten the need for any greeting or introduction, but that was really not unusual for her.

Azhar's eyes watched the female for a second. Nothing truly special about her, but her mane. Her mane was almost as great as his. He let a charming smile spread over his maw as he looked the mare over to see if there was anything else he liked about her.

She had far more interesting markings than he did, which was rare. The colors in this mare seemed to make Azhar's head tilt to the side, he hat tipping along with it.

When she whinnied, his ears perked up. He was used to others saying something about the way he was dressed, but no one ever seemed this amused by it all. "Well, I've had them since I was little... and they are the only things I have from my parents... I think." He laughed a little as his bobbed tail flicked a little as he looked her over once more. "Why don't you? They are the latest trend." Another laugh escaped him as he let his ears flick towards the pretty mare.

Utterly oblivious to his deliberate charm, she tilted her head to the side too, mirroring his. Her tail swished idly to ward off flies, and the dreamy smile on her muzzle seemed to suggest that Rilya was not entirely focused on him, however interesting she might find his attire. There was certainly something odd about this usdia who seemed to be in a perpetual good humor...

Or perhaps not, for at his next words her expression changed. "From your parents?" She looked downcast for a moment, scuffing at the ground with a hoof. "I... I can't remember my parents, I guess. Maybe I don't have any." A shiver seemed to pass over her and was gone; Rilya didn’t appear to be aware of it, and the male had already continued.

"Oh! I don't pay much attention to trends. Silly things, I guess. Kind of like…”

Her words trailed off mid-sentence as some particularly tantalizing clover growing near the edge of the bank caught her eye, and in an instant she was off and grazing contentedly. For long moments she seemed to have forgotten his presence, but then at last she gave a little start and flicked her ear in his direction. “Are you hungry? I quite like the grass here.”

Azhar lifted a brow when she tilted her head to the side as well. This mare was an interesting one. She seemed to constantly forget about his presence, something he wasn't used to happening. His short tail flicked as well, but it didn't do much. He his stance slightly to try and get her attention back.

His ears quickly flicked forward towards the sad mare. "Well, everyone has parents." He said, nodding his head slightly. Azhar's adoptive mother taught him that when he was younger. If she hadn't adopted, then he would probably not know as much as he did.

He laughed a little when she talked about the trends.

His eyes darted over to where she was looking when her words trailed. A bright clover caught his eyes and he watched as she started to graze. "Sure." He sad at her question and then lowered his head to graze contently off the grass beneath them.

Rilya's tail swished with increasing energy as the reality of the situation sunk in. She'd been so taken with his odd accessories that she hadn't paid much attention to the more interesting issue at hand, or perhaps had not let herself do so: not only was this another Soquili presented himself, but he was an Usdia like her.

Another Usdia... She couldn't remember the last time she had met one of her kind, and she liked this one already for the simple fact that he didn't tower over her like a giant. The sun felt so wonderful and warm, and the grazing here really was delicious, but for once she felt the need to shake herself out of her complacency. Or at least, long enough to find out more about this stranger before they parted paths. After a decent interval, she shyly started to make her way closer to where he was grazing, taking a few mouthfuls herself along the way so her approach wouldn't be quite so obvious.

"I'm Rilya." The words were sudden and almost too loud, but now that much was out, anyway. She would wait and see how he responded before going on; in the meantime Rilya went back to grazing again. Only the nervous twitching of one ear betrayed that she had even spoken.

Azhar lifted his head for a moment to look towards the mare. His blue eyes looked towards the mare's yellow ones for a moment then he looked back at the ground to continue his meal. After a few moments, he grew bored with this and lifted his head.

Azhar had other usdia, but his mother was the one he spent most of his time with. She adopted him when he was a foal and ever since then he has been calling her mother. His eyes looked towards the mare again. She seemed to be more worried about eating than talking. His shoulders shrugged once then he noticed her growing closer and he smiled a little. He acted as if not to notice her moving closer, but he couldn't help but smile.

"Beautiful name. I'm Azhar." He let an almost perfect smile show as he bowed his head slightly to the mare. When she went back to grazing, he let his own head lower, his hat staying perfectly on his head as he did so.

Rilya choked on a mouthful of grass, her eyes widening to show the whites. "T-thanks," she squeaked, eloquent as ever. Had anyone ever said she had a beautiful name before (or smiled like that at her!)? She certainly didn't think it was. It was just... well, just her name, it didn't have to be more than that. Sometimes she'd give herself more exciting names like Iorailna or Lillassea for a while just for fun, but otherwise. Now, Azhar… that was a mysterious, exotic sort of name.

Too long had passed already for her to make a more suitable reply even if she'd been able to. This was no good. At this rate he'd be off again soon, and she'd be left with nothing. But it would be so, so easy to let him do just that. After all, did it really matter why he was here, or what he was like? She’d just get more embarrassed if she tried to say anything further, anyway. It’d be better to leave it as it was…

It'd been much easier when she was half-asleep in the morning sun, not stopping to realize that yes, she was having a conversation with someone that wasn’t going entirely badly. Now, more like her usual response to social situations (meaning, awkward), her brain wouldn't stop.

While she was thus occupied, Rilya had been sneaking what she hoped were inconspicuous glances at this Azhar from the corner of her eye, as if trying to memorize the way he moved and held himself. Probably after he left, what she remembered of this male would become fresh material for her daydreams. She was still curious about his hat and bow tie, too, especially after hearing that he’d gotten them from mysterious parents. "How do you keep that from falling off?" she finally blurted out before she had a chance to think, watching him balance it atop his head without any apparent effort.
