My "God is Asleep" Theory
Or, "Even if There is a God We're ******** Anyway"

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
2 Peter 3:8

Being an avid reader of science and of religious materials I have formulated a theory of God and why he doens't seem to have been present in the world for a long long time.

Scientifically the age of the Earth is guessed to be about 5-6 billion years old. The Bible maintains that the Earth was created in 6 days. Many people have suggested that a "day" to God may be more than the 24 hour period that we humans have designated. So let's say that a day to God is a billion years. This way Christians and science can be in harmony.

Now if you read the Old Testament, you'll see that plenty of people got to speak to God, or at least an incarnation of God. Abraham, Solomon, Job and Moses to name a few. Then Jesus came along and he was God. And as far as I can tell nothing since. Or at least anyone who has claimed to have spoken directly to God since then has generally been burned at the stake or had tanks come and shoot fire into their compound. So Jesus was the last time God has been seen in the world. Since he spoke to people we can also say that is the last time God has spoken to anyone in the world or been seen in the world at all.

Now, the bible isn't clear as to when exactly the sixth day ended. But what if, and I think this makes a certain amount of sense, the day Jesus died was midnight on the sixth day for God? I mean clearly if Jesus was God he wasn't resting when Jesus was alive. Jesus walked around and preformed miracles, which I hear are very tiresome, and of course crucifixion is no picnic. So after Jesus dies, comes back and leaves again, God thinks, "Well my work there is done, all men are saved, I think I'll have a sandwich and call it a day." So he goes to take his nap.

So we know that was somewhere close to 2000 years ago. The Bible seems to indicate that God is going to rest for the whole day. A day to God is a billion years. So 1,000,000,000 - 2000 = 999,998,000 years until we can expect God to wake up. Until then we're alone. Sucks doesn't it?

That is a very interesting theory, but God is with us everyday. He watches over us and guides us in our path. And that isnt the last time he has spoke to anyone. We speak to God in prayer, and there are many times he answers are prayers. So he does communicate with us on a regular basis. That is my thought on this subject biggrin

For no creatures under God are as we are...

There was a quote in some movie or the other, I really liked it.

"God is a kid with a giant ant hill."

Is it blasphemy to say God would want to have a sandwich and a rest?
An omnipresent being as God would not need a sandwich nor rest, would it?

...none so like him as ourselves.

Dogma? I think thats it

That movies great...

And how would that be blasphemy? Your just saying that even god needs rest, and it says so in the bible.
All im suggesting is his days are lloooonnnngggggggg (longer than long cat)

Deism kind of says the same thing: God created the earth and left.

But, from the Christian point of view, 1 and 2 Thessalonians were written basically because people thought God had left. In the letters, Paul assures them that he has not.

As for the bible not being clear about the length of the sixth day, Genesis 1: 31 says, "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening and there morning--the sixth day." The seventh day, however, is ambiguous. Although, saying the God is still on break from that day onwards kind of defeats the purpose of your argument and doesn't explain the Old Testament...so, we'll throw that away.

...uh, yeah. That's all I have right now... >.>

or maybe.

in god hours.

a day to him

is like eons for us.

sooo maybe he just took a break after jesus and is napping for a bit. Cause i mean...that whole jesus part of the bible is allot to take in and concidering he had to inpregnate a girl here on earth with himself...that had to be tiring just in itself.

I'd sort of agree with this... even if God isn't here, it gives something to have faith in when you're in trouble

2 Peter 3:8

This is just an indirect way of saying that there is no time for God. He is the beginning and the end. There was never anything before God. He wasn't created. He just always was...and always will be. Timeless.

We are not waiting for the seventh day or any other day. We have been left to have freewill to choose our path. We follow Him, we have faith in Him, we honor Him... or we don't. God gave us that gift of choice. My theory on that is that it is a lesson to learn. Will we once again destroy the earth with our immoral, malevolent ways? (as they did in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah) Or have we learned to live in enlightenment?

It seems predestined that we will fail as evidenced in Revelations. God did not choose our future, but he does know how the story ends. Did he tell us the end signs in the Bible so that we might recognize and try to correct ourselves?

Thank you for theorizing. It is good to bring other ideas to the table. We should always state our beliefs and also pay attention to other ideas. It is good exercise for your mind and your soul.
