Well, I'm not sure if it's officially called a holiday, I just know that I get next Monday off from school.

Yeah, it's definitely a school holiday. Memorial Day is always marked on the calendars, so I'm pretty sure it's a national holiday. My high school is always on summer vacation when Memorial Day rolls around.
