How does empathy affect your every day life? any funnies it causes? any interesting stories? please share and we may even perhaps learn something. ^.=.^

I personally find that my empathy often gives me hints in games or helps me win card games like Magic the gathering and L5R by knowing how people will react or sensing the extension of their will in the form of the characters they play thus giving an edge. Though i always feel kinda bad about it.... sweatdrop then again its not like i can control it?

Hehe. I used it all the time in Magic the Gathering. Use to drive my friends nuts because i would always stop them in their tracks with their Plans. Course i could also summon any card in my deck to the top just by saying its name. But thats a different story.

I personally like to use empathy to see when people want something specific from me. You learn that certain reactions happen after certain responses. For example, IF somebody wants me to do something for them, but never in their life ask me to. Such as question them. Or to actually pursue a topic they are otherwise pretending they want dropped.

Also i use it to dodge slapping. I like dry humor, and i get annoying. After a while people will *accidentally* take a swing. Being an empath give you the ability to know when they are actually going to do it.

I get bored. So you learn some things i guess.

I've used empathy to both block people and help people.

For blocking, it usually those really annoying sales people that refuse to take no for an answer. I can sense it right away that they think I'm an easy target, so I start shutting them down right from the start. It's also good for avoiding people when they're just starting a bad mood. Then there's driving. It's not really empathy, but knowing what someone's going to do comes in handy.

For helping, I generally limit the scope to my close friends and family. Otherwise I get depressed from taking on too much negativity. Usually I just try to help them sort through their emotions and offer random advice.

The plus to empathy is that often you become more in tune with your own emotions and thoughts. That's what I've used to win at B.S. Plus a little knowledge of psychology. When I'm bluffing, I keep myself really calm like there's nothing special going on and I don't smile. In fact, I'm the opposite of most. I smile when I'm telling the truth because I know that the other person thinks I'm lying. It's when I have a straight face that you need to watch out.

Idk if this is empathy but I can tell how people feel when they write something, it comes in handy many times. Like when i pass notes in class i can tell if the person wants to keep passing notes. It's fun too like blue dragon you felt kinds excited when you wrote your 1st post on here. biggrin

Hai! i was on an energy high at the time if memory serves. But yes this is part of empathy. My empathy is partly the reason i don't read ^^;; You see my empathy is directly connected to my 'feeding'/drawing of energy. and well most books or even TV messes that up.

Why would you need to draw energy? Don't you have enough? Are saving the world?

that's what vampirism is. the lack to be able to create ones own energy through "normal" means and having to obtain it in other ways. meaning we do not get what is needed for us to maintain a healthy life from normal food ingestion.

Agreed. I myself cannot use any of my supernatural abilities without drawing from an external sources. Please understand khestal, that we only drain minute amounts. Kind of like how your eyes take in light to allow you to see, so too do we take in energy to better use ours. I personally am an empath and cannot see empathicly without drawing from the person i am seeing. You must also understand that for the most part this cannot be controlled, its a subconscious thing. Some however do not souly draw from people. Further more the energy gained through vampirism can and often is used to help those whom we love and care about.

Oh and Zimmerchild you have quite beautiful eyes, 'tis a purdy picture

Sometimes it makes me feel bad and I go into some sort of depressed like state for a few hours. Like I'm not old enough to move out yet therefore I still live with my parents and they are always stressed out!
They take one look at the 'bills' and I can feel all the anxity in them rise out. Even though they dont say anything about it, later I'll confont my mother and...well she tells me things. Like my father's job isnt paying enough and stuff. They hide all their feelings and I feel it...and it makes me depressed.
Also at church there are a bunch of fakes out there. When I go there is this one girl that tries to act all caring and stuff but she's not I can just tell. She doesnt really care, she's just doing these kind things to keep her mother happy. It makes me so mad!

However on the good side I can tell which people like me or not. Which boys are telling me the truth if they really like me. Also I can tell when people are lying to my sister. I want to keep her safe from and make sure that the person she wants to play with is really a good person. Usally when I tell her that that person is lying she'll confont them and they'll eventally admit they were lying.

Do ya'll feel like this sometimes/

I have issues when people are really angry or sad I just want to burst into tears, even if they don't want to show it.

its a VERY common occurrence and a problem with most empaths. and it hurts if these people are loved ones. one tends to have a feeling of helplessness when this happens.

I steal energy too, but I can't control it, I just do...Especially if I'm feeling down. I can give energy away, but I can't control taking it if I need.Long story...
I feel if someone close is in stress or if something has happened to them. But it's only those who I have connected myself to mentally. I feel the specific mood before they can explain and sometimes I can even read what they want to say, it just pops to my mind.
If I try to remember when it started, then I can say it was from when I was little, but a couple of years ago it hit out more strongly as even. Then it was the time I was starting to try to read other people auras.
