Quite honestly, they were, although they probably didn't know that about each other. As one of the Romani that had actually grown up clan, Jae was more than skilled at poker, and other less... savory... games of skill and trickery. Satyrs were traditionally just so, as well. Clever and not necessarily to be trusted, unless they gave their word. That was something they would do everything not to break, a promise. The honor codes were quite high.

Anyway, today, in the present, the lovely psychiatrist was sitting at one of those two-person tables, writing rapidly on a notepad, in lieu of her laptop, which she'd politely left at her office. She was, technically, on her lunch break. Why she was here? She wasn't exactly sure. Jae had turned in her form on accident, really. Still... It was something to do, something as a joke, let's say. Curiosity? Or, that's what she told herself.

In fact, Jaelle was lonely.

She didn't mind being early, though, she had plenty to occupy her active mind.

Had Akuti been a typical satyr, it would have been worlds easier to find her a date or two. When one thought 'happy, trickster of a mythical creature', they hardly ever thought of a skinny girl wearing overall, a soft yellow undershirt and teal hair all wrapped up in two thick braids.

Her father had talked her into this. It was all his fault. He had convinced her to get a job, then to move out, then this. Patrick didn't trust her to have a life, apparently. Not that she really blamed him. She didn't really think she could get a life on her own either without a little push.

Jaelle wasn't too hard to find in the cafe. It was all but deserted, most people at work or with family or something else that left them outside of a quiet little eatery. Carpet muffled the majority of the noise she made as she went towards the small table.

"Ah - excuse me? You are Jaelle?"

Peering up at the [what looked to be] young woman through her attractive glasses, Jaelle's teeth flashed in a charming smile. In technical terms, Jae was 29 and the satyr was 3. Not that she necessarily knew that.

"Mmmn, yes, and if you know that, you must be Akuti, then." The curvy gypsy gracefully got to her feet, holding out her hand to shake in greeting. "It's nice to meet you." Taking her seat again, she gestured for the other woman to join her at the table.

Of course, now that they were here, Jae didn't know exactly how to conduct herself. She was hard pressed not to act like this was one of her sessions. "How are you?" See, there she went...

Akutis smile was a bit slower then Jae's as she shook the other womans hand. That, too, was odd. There wasn't much hand-shaking in the White home, not that there was really any reason to.

"A pleasure." She agreed, pulling out her chair to sit. The movement was nearly awkward but she soon got the hang of it. While the gypsy was stumped on what to say, Akuti was simply looking her over and making initial assumptions. Picking people apart came later; at the moment, the woman looked nice enough.

Another smile tugged at her lips at the question. Jae had as much knowledge on how to do this whole thing that Akuti did, apparently. "Horrible at small talk." The satyr admitted as put her hands hesitantly on the table top.

Where the hell do you put those things when you had nothing to worry or hold?

"Although, that.. that probably wasn't what you meant." Maybe it was. Lovely, Akuti. How does hoof taste? "Yourself? You looked busy."

"Busy? Oh.." She looked down at her notes, then grinned again. Jae was friendly enough, even charming. Plenty of people were attracted to her, however, they were mainly clan, and she wasn't interested. She didn't have the time for people outside of the clan, either. Hence, the service, she supposed.

"I'm actually on my lunch break... I own the business, so, that lunch can be as long as I think I can reasonably defend to myself."

A pause, and a flash of shy appeared on her face. "I'm not very good at small talk, either, I'm a lot better at listening. Why don't we get to deeper questions, then...?"

Opening a bottle of water, she took a slow sip. "Why are you going through a dating service? I mean, the real reason you showed up HERE, rather than just sending in an application as a joke, and leaving it at that."
PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2008 2:36 pm

"Deeper questions?" The query was accented with a slight arch of eyebrows and her right hand moving up to toy with the end of a braid. An almost nervous gesture; if there had been a cup for her to play with, she would've stroked a side, a napkin would have been slowly tugged it apart. Deeper questions.

Ah. Those sorts. People didn't usually question why she did things - she did them because they were right. At least, she did them because she thought they were. When you were quieter, people tended to listen more.

"I wanted to." It was the stupidest answer in the world. But it was true. "Well. I applied initially because my father shoved the application down my throat. ..figuratively speaking? But I came here, now, because I wanted to. We might end up hating each other or being friends or not care one way or the other by the end of it but at least there was an honest attempt to meet people. Right?"

If her cheeks weren't starting to go pink, it would have been a lot easier to pull off. "And you? Since you asked me the question, is it safe to guess you've asked yourself the same thing?"

"I wanted to meet people who weren't tied to my past, and most people who come into my life naturally either are from my history, associated with it, or come to me to treat their nuerological, emotional and mental problems, which is not on my list of things to get involved with."

Clicking the base of her pen, she made the tip go away and set it aside completely. Jae was sort of waiting for something to happen that would tell her whether this was going to be worth it or not to continue. Akuti was pretty, and interesting, but there hadn't been an immediate... Oh, spark? Ha, what did she know, anyway? She'd never had a spark, now wasn't the time to wonder about one!

"Of course, I filled out the form on a whimsy, and it accidently got mailed in my secretary, but, here I am nonetheless."

"I think everyone has some sort of emotional problems, though. If you look long enough." Jae's answer had rather knocked anything Akuti was prepared to say out of the ballpark. She had no idea how to respond, other then that short little two sentence statement she had just uttered.

Her eyes flicked at the pen as it was put aside and Akuti let her hand fall, rest lightly on the edge of the table. Finally, she just sighed and offered Jae a smile.

"This is the part where I would ask about the possibilities of you finding someone outside of the agency but you answered that already. You own your psychiatry office? Since you said nuerological. What got you into it? I always found it really.. confusing."

Small talk. Fail, Akuti. Fail.

"Oh, yes, they do indeed." A low, throaty chuckle came from the woman and she took another drink, shaking her head slowly.

"How did I get into it...? Well... To be honest, it's simply a knack that got carried away into a career. My... Family..." She made an uncomfortable expression, briefly, very briefly, "is something I've, in some senses, always tried to distance myself from. However, I was encouraged by them to express my insights. It was a quality about myself, to look into others and reveal things about themselves they had trouble seeing. However, when I got into my later years of highschool and began college, I sought to distance myself. Psychiatry was a field not many were going into at my school, so they had excellent scholarships. I switched my major from business to psychiatry."

After that monologue, she tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ear and cast Akuti a real grin. Jae was very attractive, but it was usually in a severe way, especially when she got into her work-mode, now and again, though, a charming sort of woman peeked out.

"Of course, now I'm monopolizing our entire conversation! I could ask a rather base question... What are you attracted to in another woman? Don't worry, I'm not YOUR psychiatrist. You're under no obligations to answer my questions." A laugh.

Picking up the social slack indeed. Akuti's social inexperiance was shining through with a gigantic beam of glory. She had sense enough to not ask about further details on the womans family, at least? There were enough slight stumbling along the way already. Oh, but that laughter was nice.

"I asked so you would monopolize." She protested, laughing a little part way through the sentence. "When someone starts talking more, it's easier to find questions to ask."

Well, well, at least someone was starting to loosen up. While the laughter was soft, rather girlish, it was still laughter. And don't think she hadn't noticed the smile - she had and it actually made Akutis shoulders loosen a bit from the release of tension.

The question caused her to start a little and Jaelle was on the receiving end of a few blinks.

"What am I attracted to in a woman? I.. don't know, actually. I know what I'm attracted to in a person, though? I haven't thought too much about gender. I like hands, though," Akuti flexed her own in demonstration, "And eyes. I look more at people with darker eyes. Otherwise, it's mostly about what fits the person. Personality wise, well-spoken, polite people. Patiance, especially with my incredible lack of social knowledge. A sense of humor wouldn't hurt.

"And that's me talking your ear off." She smiled quickly, looking back down at her hands before back up to Jaelle. "Is there anything you absolutely can't stand in a person?"

Another one of those delighted laughs and Jae removed her glasses, setting them on the table. They were for reading, anyway. "It's too bad mine are so bright then, isn't it?" They were indeed a rather fierce teal color. For some reason, the thought of being the opposite of what Akuti thought she wanted appealed to her. A lot. Jae did have nice hands, though. Long, slender fingers, with amazing nails, which were currently not painted.

"Hrm..." Jae was surprisingly tolerant. She wanted to separate herself from her family, but that was about her, not them. "I'm not a fan of the over-emotional, or horribly insecure." A pause, and quirked brow. "and I suppose grave-robbing isn't a turn-on, either." Now, if she had been her YOUNGER sister, that statement would've been incorrect.

"I'm generally pretty open. I suppose I should say that I don't really know. I haven't dated in years, honestly, the last time was set-up by my matriar--grandmother... It wasn't exactly what I was looking for."
PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2008 3:59 pm

"It's quite terrible. How dare you not have my preferred eye color. I am insulted. Deeply." To prove her point, Akuti held her hand to her chest and shook her head minutely, a sad little picture. "Although I can't really dislike teal. It'd go against my better nature." She gave her braid a little flip in demonstration

"Grave robbing." It was almost a question. "I think I'm going to wait to ask where that came from." It seemed like a third date question. After all, how often did people bring up grave-robbing in a list of what they didn't want? It was generally assumed that it was already on there.

Now... if they were talking to Iamel, it might have been needed as a little sticky-note.

"At least this time it's by people you don't know at all so you either crash and burn or have a great time, with no family wondering how it went either way. Not knowing is better then having too many biases to be able to see anything worthwhile."

"Exactly!" Jae leaned forward, pointing a finger at the other woman, and grinned, her hidden and fierce nature briefly shining through. "Family, I believe shouldn't have much to do with what happens in my bedroom." A firm nod and she sat back, draining her water bottle.

"Tell me what kind of music you dance to when no one's looking." How was THAT for a question?
PostPosted: Wed Jun 11, 2008 10:17 pm

"Family just tends to get in the way of actually letting people like you." Her eyes widened briefly at the grin but, surprisingly, Akuti returned it. Her expression very much like it but, for her, it was almost rougish. Kind of.

She paused and blinked the wide teal eyes at her; Akuti leaned back. She wasn't blushing. No. She was not blushing. Despite the pink cheeks, she wasn't blushing.

"Ah... Middle Eastern music, mostly. I bellydance." So THAT wasn't mortifying. It was. She hadn't even admitted that in the application. It wasn't as if she was very good at it, with the hooves, but she liked to. Either way, Akuti continued on bravely! "What sort of faces do you make when you brush your teeth?"
