I went yesterday. Those on my Twitter already know this story, but here it is on repeat anyway:
=============

When I was looking at the Navy, they pay 100% of all education expenses, and most classes you take in Navy will transfer anywhere (so they say.. I hardly believe that) whereas the othe rbranches have a price barrier for education and don't seem to have this class- transfer feature... Or whatever.
Also, yes, I want to travel the world and while I know the other branches you can travel, it seemed like the Navy was reallyt he only one that did it internationally.
Anyway, I went to the recruiter today, and just as I was going to open the door, someone from the National Guard caught my attention and I ended up going to that office instead.
I didn't even know what the National Guard did but they said that they, unlike all of the other branches, can actually guarantee a job before I go to basic. (I know I cannot be guaranteed the job I want in all of the other branches, so she drew me in).
So basically what the National Guard is is some glorified policemen, or maybe the army reserve's reserve...
Regardless they had a communications job that seemed interesting and it was in my field. Plus, they said that they could take my current college credits and promote me almost immediately.
Needless to say I signed most of the papers but my enlistment won't be finalized until about next week.
=================
So after that, My dad is saying that once I go into active duty with the Army, my occupation won't be the same is it should be listed on paper; that I have as much chance getting the job I applied for in the National Guard as I do in the Navy.
The National Guard basically guarantees I get the training for the job I want, but not the actual job I want.
to This:
=================
Bah. See that is what my dad is saying; that since I'm going into active duty for the army, they can do the same thing as any normal branch, and have me work some other job I don't want to do.
But I still don't really understand how it all works.
I gave them 3 fields: IT, Arts & Media, and Communications.
But they instead gave me this paper with the current available jobs on it and I picked one.
If that's not the only way to do it then I'd like to figure out if there's a different way...
If I have the same chance of being ******** over in the job area in the National Guard as I do in the Navy, then I want to go back to the Navy, because I want my ******** benefits D<
======================
So right now I'm in a state of wishy-washy maybe Navy, Maybe National Guard.
But I'll definately be signing up for one of them for good soon.
This weekend I get to visit the base training camp for the National Guard (I didn't know you could do that!) and see what goes on.
So I can see what I'm getting into.
But really, I'm going to join one of the other (officially) soon.
Just letting you all know.
I'll give updates as it happens.
