Karma lowered his head to the water of the stream and drank, savoring the feel of the cool wetness as it flowed by his mouth. It was a spring morning and the birds had just begun to sing in the treetops. As usual, he listened to them while mentally preparing himself for the day. Today he was in familiar territory and recognized the birds he heard around him. There was something in that familiarity that was a comfort and he was content to stay by the banks of the stream and listen.
When he had finished drinking he raised his head and stood still and quiet. To his left there was a quick beating of wings and then a burst of movement as one of the birds he had been listening to erupted into flight. His eyes followed it until it banked sharply beyond a tree and out of sight. It seemed to think it was a good day for flying. Maybe it would be one for him too. He stretched his wings out and stretched them down and then back up. Yes, today was a good day for flying. He would do that once he had finished listening to the birds.

Alianna blinked in the bright sunlight that were streaming in through the leaves of the tree, shattering shards of bright green on the grass. She sighed wistfully, it was great that it was spring, the awakening of the earth. Already, flowers were blooming, birds were singing, there was new life everywhere. It was just a bliss to smell the fresh air and listen to the sounds of nature. The brown mare with a golden horn on her head smiled cheerfully and started to totter towards a stream that she knew.
Alianna swished her golden tail happily as she yawned widely. It had been quite a long night and it was hard to sleep with all the night noises anyway. As, she strode out of the shade of the trees to the stream ahead which she was thinking of splashing herself with some water to wake herself up a bit more...but there was already someone there. She blinked. It was a blue stallion with green braided hair, but the thing that amazed her the most was the set of blue wings with markings like cloud and water. She felt a stab of jealously, wouldn't it be just like a dream to go flying around in such a fine spring day?

Karma was drawn out of his reverie to see a unicorn mare had joined him at his stream. His eyes took her in but lingered on the long golden horn that emerged from amidst blond mane. He knew about unicorns but had rarely gotten an opportunity to see one close. His mild curiosity melted away into a nod of greeting. "Hello, my name is Karma." It was a simple enough introduction and the one he usually found the least awkward. Karma knew that he was not as adept as his siblings at interacting with strangers and had learned strategies to accommodate that.
He noticed her looking at his wings and shifted them slightly on his back. It could be that she had never seen a winged soquili before. He might be as novel to her as she was to him. If that was the case then perhaps they would be on more equal footing during this meeting than he had anticipated. Karma watched her quietly, wondering what this encounter would bring.

Alianna blinked, the wind soquili must have noticed her staring. She mentally slapped herself for being so rude as she trotted to the edge of the stream and took a sip. The sharp cool water quickly woke her from her exhaustion and cleared her sleepy mind. She looked up as the stallion spoke.
Alianna smiled and nodded,"Hey! I'm Alianna, pleased to meet you." She looked around, signs of spring were everywhere. The birds singing, the faintly fragerent smell of the air, the cool spring morning...After a while, she said,"Isn't it just fine that it is spring again? It's my favorite season...what's yours?" She spun around for something to say; she wasn't very good at conversation and very much preferred to listen as others chatted on. Yet on this occassion, she was very eager to have a conversation with someone, but she couldn't exactly know what to say.

Karma nodded slightly when she introduced herself and quietly watched as she talked. When she posed her question he didn't answer immediately, instead pausing to consider first. "I don't have a favorite season," he replied after a moment.
"Each season has it's good aspects and it's bad." He looked about with his blue eyes, as if surveying the aspects of spring. "Spring has beautiful flowers but isn't so warm as summer which some would find more enjoyable." He himself had never been terribly fussy about the weather. In the winter his coat grew shaggy so he wasn't bothered by the cold and in the summer he could fly high enough to escape the heat.

Alianna listened as Karma spoke. When he had finished, she nodded slightily and replied,"Well...I suppose that you could say that. But either way, I still love spring the most, not that I don't like the other seasons..." She shrugged subconciously and looked around, trying to find something to talk about.
Within seconds, her brown eyes had found the pair of blue wings again. She blinked and asked interestingly,"You are a wind soquili, correct?" She paused and continued,"Do you fly often?" Her face was alight was barely contained curiousity.

"I have been called a wind though neither of my parents were one." His mother had been wingless and his father bore wings that defied classification. He didn't mind being called a wind. To him, it just meant that he had a pair of relatively normal wings which he couldn't deny. Names and labels had always been unimportant to Karma.
"I fly when it suits me which is often." He looked up to the soft puffs of cloud swirling through a blue sky. "I will probably fly today. It is a good day for it." He spoke softly and lacking any strong emotion. He always spoke this way except in the rare occasion he was gripped by something powerful. Today seemed like too calm a day for that to happen, however.

"Oh..."muttered Alianna, she herself didn't know her parents but she supposed that they were unicorn ones too since she was one herself. She never knew that a soquili could be a breed of soquili that neither of his/her parents were......
She blinked, listening to Karma's talk about flying this very day. Alianna's brown eyes danced merrily as she asked excitedly,"What is flying like? I can almost imagine it! All the free wind through my hair, soaring in and out of clouds without a care in the world..." She trailed off.

Karma shifted his wings in the soquili equivalent of a shrug. "It takes more concentration than that. It's important to stay level in the air or you might fall." He had learned that the hard way when he was first learning. Even now in strong winds he sometimes had a hard time keeping body level with his wings so that he didn't twist out of the sky.
"But it does allow for more freedom of travel than walking." He wouldn't have been able to cover nearly the distance he had if he had to rely on walking. It was pleasant, knowing that he could fly miles away but still be able to find his way home.

Alianna blinked and nodded as she replied,"Ah...I suppose so......" She never really considered the part about staying balanced and the weather before. She shrugged sub-conciously, it was all a dream; she would never be able to fly whether she wanted to or not. She would have to be happy the way she was or not at all.
At Karma's comment, she nodded thoughtfully,"That must be nice. I wish that I could fly too....." She sighed, it was just another of her wistful thinking.

"Many do," he replied evenly. "And while I do enjoy it... I don't think it is exactly what those without wings dream of." They longed for a fantasy of flapping flew clouds on gentle puffs of wind. Karma himself had never flown high enough to reach a cloud. His wings wouldn't hold the thinner air up there and flying lower still got him where he wished to go to.
He tilted his head when regarding this new acquaintance. Perhaps he would ask her why it was that the wingless always dreamed of flying.

Alianna tilted her head slightly, why was this he being so ungrateful about the blessing of flight? She sighed, perhaps Karma was so used to flying that he didn't know what it would be like to be wingless...? She sighed. After a few long moments, she finally replied,"Well, I suppose it is just a wild imagination...just a product of utter boredom." She shrugged and continued,"It's just something to fancy and dream about, and wonder about...It is always great to try or at least imagine doing new things, don't you think so?"

"I find myself content with the way things are." Karma had never been one to long for something. He didn't require bliss in his life. Contentment was enough to keep him... content. Thinking that, though, something tickled at the back of his mind. No, that wasn't all. There was something that he wanted. "But..." he added slowly. "I've always wanted to meet an Angeni."
Saying those words, he thought he suddenly understood why Alianna admired and longed for flight. Didn't he have something akin to that for the mysterious legends of the Angeni who could fly to the sun itself? Less passionate, perhaps, but no less strong. He felt like perhaps he should apologize for his previous misunderstanding but, for the moment, couldn't find the words.

"Angeli...?"murmured Alianna, a light starting to glow in her soft brown eyes, as she looked back at the blue soquili. Wasn't he talking about near enough legendary soquili who could fly too, as well as other mysterious powers? She always wondered if those legends were actually true, and would have loved to meet one...perhaps little less than the wish for flight, but none the less there among another sea of wishes. It seems everybody, even Karma, has a dream......
She smiled happily and said,"Well, I bet that you will probably meet one someday..." She paused and asked,"Do you know if any of those legends were true? I always wondered about that..."

Karma's brow furrowed slightly at the question. It was one that he had been considering too of late and a question that he had yet to find an answer to. "I'm not certain if they are. From my parents and others I heard many stories and don't know if any of them are true."
Some of them, like that angenis had the ability to turn into humans seemed a little far-fetched. It seemed unnatural to Karma that a soquili might be able to transform into something else. That was one of the reasons that skinwalkers were so terrible, after all. "I hope to be able to discover the truths for myself in meeting them... though I don't know where to look to find them."
