Blacklight backed carefully away from the edge of the cliff, measuring the distance with sure, steady paces. The mare wasn't worried about falling. Her fanned wings were more than capable of helping her keep her balance amongst the buffeting winds. But she was higher up in the mountains than she'd ever been before, and she wasn't looking forward to scrambling down the slope on foot.
Blacklight needed space to gallop so that she could make a decent take-off. She'd thought this clear area would be a good place to land and rest, but-
Thirteen paces.
There were exactly thirteen paces between herself and the treeline.
She could easily catch an updraft and start flying with thirteen paces of velocity behind her. But the number was wrong. All wrong! If Blacklight relied on thirteen of anything then her flight would most definitely be cursed!
What was she to do?

The winged stallion was up in the air flying gracefully. He enjoyed the feel of wind running through his lovely mane of hair. The pink stallion flew up higher and higher as high as he could possibly go. He enjoyed taking a look down below as he flew high up in the sky. It made him feel special inside.
As he continued his flight he looked around below checking to see if any mares were about. He enjoyed the idea of swooping down and making a mare's heart race within their chests for his dashing entrance. No, he was not vain at all. He just enjoyed mares giving him attention!
During his flight he noticed a black wind mare and it seemed like her flying was out of shape? At least it looked to him that the mare might possibly need some assistance.

My- was that a stallion flying up over the canopy? Oh, yes, it must be! Blacklight knew of no clouds that shone so pink and gold; not even at sunset.
This was Blacklight's lucky day! Not taking the thirteen paces was most certainly the correct choice.
"Excuse me! Oh, excuse me! Hello!" She called, letting the wind carry her words up to the other soquili. "So you know of any other places to take off near here?"

Hearing the winged mare call out to him made all his attention go to her, he tried to pick up more speed to fly closer. Giving the black winged mare a look over “Why hello there beautiful!” his voice soothing to the ears. His wings kept flapping as he stayed in one place in mid air “Another place to take off at?” that was a rather confusing question. His blue eyes looked around the cliff side she was on.
Quite baffled on why she couldn’t just take the leap “Hmm..stupid question miss but you do know how to fly right?” of course he wouldn’t laugh or anything if she hadn’t. Perhaps she suffered an injury to a wing and was waiting for it to heal for a good long time? Of course he probably would be unprepared for anything unusual to be told to him. Yet he would try to live up to his name and keep a sweet relying title.

"Excuse me? I'm a full-grown mare, aren't I?"
Blacklight whinnied, taken aback. She flicked her ears up and shifted her weight back and forth in place.
"No, no- you probably can't see it from here, but this cliff lies on the precipice of misfortune! If I take off from here, I'll be cursed for days. You'd better not lad here either, unless you want to be stuck with me."
Something like concern shone in her wide black eyes. This stallion didn't seem like such a bad fellow, even if what he'd said had been a little insulting. Blacklight couldn't expect everyone to be as attuned to the etheric realm as she was. And wasn't it the way of winged soqiuli to take life as it came, letting the wind blow them as it would?

Seeing she took his comment to heart he had to find a way to make it up "Sorry love, of course you can fly!" the stallion then glanced around the cliff side once again. Apparently the mare had belief it was cursed? He tried to understand what she was talking about but was left confused. Looking back at her with his bright deep blue eyes "What now about this cursed thing?" he asked while keeping himself floating in midair with the wind.

Blacklight was so concerned for the handsome, naive stallion that she entirely forgot what she'd been offended about. Fancy not knowing what was wrong! Of course, she hadn't seen the problem either, but there'd been no one to warn her when she'd landed. And she'd been too tired to carefully examine the slope.
How long would this stranger be able to keep flying without growing exhausted himself? The mountain winds could be brutally punishing. Blacklight was already impressed that he could hover in place.
"Thirteen steps to take off. That's a bad omen, don't you think? Anything at all could happen."
She had to laugh at herself. This was all so silly.
"Oh, you must think I'm very foolish to have been caught like this. But usually I do pay more attention!" Blacklight glanced winsomely up at the stallion. "Perhaps fortune has brought a strong stallion here to save me. What do you say? Would you care to play my knight in shining armor?"

In do time the pink stallion would grow tired if he kept this up! Though he would try his best at keeping himself looking strong. His blue eyes just blinked "Bad omen you say?" what was this she spoke of? The black wind with markings seemed skittish.
"Hm perhaps you just need a little luck to get yourself down? I might just be that luck you need." giving her a rather charming smile. Oh he was so full of himself!
Feeling a gust of wind suddenly rush into him, he almost lost his balance in the air. Body jerking to the right a bit "Haha..perhaps me just hanging nearby might be a bad omen for myself."

Blacklight's eyes widened, and her tail swished back and forth, showing her nervousness. Could it be true? Was the ill fortune cast on this cliff enough to affect someone who hadn't even landed? Oh, how terrible! She had brought awful luck upon this stallion by calling him over!
Her karma demanded that she make it up to him. And even if she couldn't... he did look awfully handsome, straining against the winds like that. Perhaps her fortune wasn't as bad as she'd thought. Sleeping in sweetgrass the evening before had been a very good decision!
"Oh dear. Maybe you should land too, if you think you're also cursed?" She tried to look positive in order to set the stallion at least. "I'm certain we can think of a way out of this predicament together!"

Ah yes, perhaps he shouldn't had teased her so. Though right now he could feel his body growing rather tired. Giving a nod at the black wind mare he flapped his wings and took land beside her. Looking around with his deep blue eyes "So my beautiful little shadow, so what desire did you have to come here on these cliff side?." he had hope inside it didn't have anything to do with getting something lucky. That would make the pink stallion just shake his head.
"Well..?" he kept his eyes now focused on her while keeping a good steady balance.

Wh-what? Did he say-
Beautiful little shadow?
"Oooh. You may be gold on the outside, but you've got a silver tongue, cutie."
Black stifled the urge to giggle and whinny like a silly young filly. She flicked him playfully with her long, prehensile tail.
"I was tired myself, so I stopped to graze. These mountains are wonderful, don't you think? "
Her wings partially unfurled, and she tested them against the updraft. Her features took on a fond, far-away look when she gazed into the horizon. Black really did love this place. If she could, she would wander forever.
"There's nothing to tie us flyers down, here. I want to explore the whole range."

He grew a large smile at her little comment and her silly little whinny. He rolled his blue eyes when he got hit with her tail. Hearing her words of how this place seemed wonderful he just gave the area a look over.
"Hm, if you say so?"
Perhaps he just didn't have much love for mountains? Looking over at her again and giving a nod. Perhaps they could walk over the other side and she'd be able to take a nice lift off?
"Do you think the other side is safe?" he nudged his head towards that direction.

"Oh, I'm sure."
Blacklight gave Swift Wind an appraising look, from under her thick, dark lashes. Not flying off had been a very lucky choice. If she'd taken those thirteen steps, she might never have met such a handsome male! It wouldn't be so bad to spend an afternoon on the ground if she had something to distract her.
"Would you come with me? I'd say a knight in shining armor is just what I need to keep me safe on those big woods." Her voice was chipper, but something about the way her eyes ran over Swift Wind was a little sly. Blacklight was no naive young filly. "It might be fun."
It was a little disappointing that the stallion didn't see the majesty of steep cliffs and sloping mountains, but every Soquili's heart felt at home in a different place. And who was Blacklight to resist her fortune? Life was so much better when she flew where the winds blew her. She was like a feather on the wind.
"My name's Blacklight."

Those words Swift Wind lived to hear! He of course would help her. The stallion's eyes blinked with the sly like look she gave him. He couldn't help himself but smile at her. Giving a nod "Very well, I could never refuse a request from a lovely mare." his left ear twitch.
He started to move towards the other side only to stop once she spoke of her name. Turning around to give her a look "Blacklight? That is a pretty name." it was rather fitting for a mare with such a black color and beautiful markings.
"I'm Swift Wind." he bowed his head to her.

Blacklight whinnied, nearly giggling. She was fairly certain that it wasn't what Swift Wind had intended, but bowing like a noble warhorse after he'd just shamelessly looked her over was awfully cute.
"A pleasure to meet you, noble sir!" She happily played along, though it was impossible for her to look serious when she bowed her own head in return. She was all too used to smiling. It wasn't in her nature to look serene, or stiff, or dour. "I hope I'm not keeping you from any friends of yours. That thing on your back, and the ropes by your face- they look very fine. Are you allied with the two-leggers?"
