She'd been at the sanctuary for months now, having since grown accustomed to the two-legged. Now and then, though, blue eyes gazed out through the holes in the fence at the world beyond. She hadn't seen her family in so long, she missed them. Letting out a puffing sigh, the cheetah turned away. She had a new family, of sorts, here. The two-leggeds, which she'd come to know to be called humans, had taken care of her, making sure she was healthy. And the other animals were so nice, even the hyenas.
As she began to walk away from the fence, she found her face making contact with the ground very roughly. Near by on the porch, the old dog looked up to make certain she was alright. Kito soon found what she'd tripped on - A little hyena pup, the pack alpha's grandson.

He'd been actually minding his own business, for once, when the cheetah had tripped on him. Letting out a yelp, Tuna looked up in shock at the other animal. "You stepped on me!" It came out as something of a whine, the tell-tale sign of being the alpha's only grandchild and therefore spoilt. As he shook himself out, he looked at the cheetah curiously. "You're new, aren't you?" His tail was suddenly wagging before he pawed at her. "Play with me!" It was no request, it was almost a DEMAND. The only hyenas he didn't have any control in that aspect over were the female pups. Surely a female other animal would be different!

"Sorry..." As she got up, the pup's demand struck her as... Bold. "Um... Okay... But what? I've never played with a hyena before..." She quickly looked about, half expecting an angry parent to come up out of somewhere to yell at her. When none did, she sat down. "So.. What do we play?"

The little hyena swished his tail, thinking, before he proudly blurted "I'll race ya along the fence!" With hardly another word, he took off, ears back to reduce wind resistance. He had no idea how silly it was to try and race a cheetah!

She sighed, then gave chase after. It didn't take long for the cheetah to catch up to the hyena, even passing him, before a fence made her stop. Looking back, her blue eyes seemed to dance. "I beat you!"

Okay, racing her was a bad idea. Tuna was winded by the time he got up to the cub, ears flopped down as he gasped for air. Reaching her, he collapsed, slowly gaining his breath. "Okay... You... Win..." He coughed, then slowly sat up. Orange eyes dance with boundless energy as the pup perked back up. "Now what?"

Sitting to ponder, the cheetah tilted her head. "How about we just walk and enjoy company? I don't even know your name..." Tail curling, she offered a smile. "I'm Kito." Tilting her head, she pawed at the hyena. "Who're you? And... Why would you try to race a cheetah? Don't you know we're one of the fastest things on four legs?" A grin cropped up, amused at how silly he was.

The hyena could only give a sour look, then shifted. "I'm Tuna!" He had no idea how fitting his name was, with how he acted. Tail twitching, he looked out through the fence. After a moment, his gaze turned to the cheetah. "Hey, Kito.. What's it like out there? On the other side of the fence?"

Blue eyes turned to look out, and she felt a pang as she realised how much she missed her family. "It's... Wonderful. The paths go endlessly, and you never run into a fence. Animals mingle at the watering hole, putting aside predator and prey differences for the single need of water." She took a deep breath, inhaling a puff of wind blown in their direction. "A cheetah could chase a gazelle for miles...."

He looked at her oddly, ears flicking. "Why would you chase it?" He'd never once in his life had the idea of hunting. He had no idea what hunting even WAS. Food was always provided for them, at set times. Indeed, he was growing up living a spoiled life. Looking back out, he sighed, then got up.

"To eat it. Haven't your parents ever hunted?" Looking back, she considered her own question. Of course... He'd grown up here, hadn't he? Food was just handed out. Before he could answer her, she heard the whoop of a hyena, calling the youngster back.

Jumping at the whoop, Tuna returned the call, then looked at Kito. "I gotta go now, see ya later!" With a flick of his tail, he turned and ran off. When he got back to his mother, he happily rattled off the day's events, including his silly idea that he could race a cheetah. Even a little one was faster than he was!

Letting out a sigh, the young cheetah looked again outside. Beyond was freedom, her family, endless land to run on. Within was... Safety, as well as help if she was hurt or ill. She felt torn, between the safety of being captive here, and the freedom of being out there, with her family. Shaking her head, Kito turned and went to see if the dog would keep her company.
