Rokopelli, as always, was on the move. Her actions were becoming sporradic now, random and uncontrollable. She'd be flying in one direction and without a single reason she'd shift and head another way. At one point she had glided in a large circle, unsure which way she had come from and which way was the direction she was supposed to be heading.
Hell! She didn't even remember where she was supposed to be going. Not like that was a change. It'd taken her forever to remember that she should be heading to the Dawnwalkers as a cub. Now, even as an adolescent, she seemed unable to navigate without forgetting where she was supposed to be ending up.
Perhaps she should have been the Goddess of forgetfulness. But then, forgetfulness was only a step away from confusion.
Eventually, her random flight brought her to the ocean, a glittering expanse of water that helped calm the overflow of emotions inside of her. Her soul was almost torn in two, one half calm and playful, as innocent as a newborn.
And then there was her other side, filled with anger and hate for the mother who had hurt her, for the God who had struck her down - despite it being partly her own fault.
And all in all, Rokopelli was always confused, no matter what half of her personality was in control. So, even now that 'Pelli had overpowered Roko, she was still awful at navigating and still rather innocent, despite the negative feelings running through her. She had no idea how to express this anger, other than in striking out and blaming others - a rather childish way of dealing with things really.
So, she had stayed on the sand, finding comfort in it's warmth and the feel of it on her paws. It reminded her of her patron land, the Tuait'tekam, with all it's beauty and the temple overlooking the glittering oasis. Oh she missed it but...she couldn't bring herself to return. It had been Roko's home, Roko's friends living there.
Not Pelli's.
She found herself briefly wondering about her snake familiar Nyoka, whether he missed her, whether he had started raising a family. She wondered if she'd ever have him at her side again. For as much as Nyoka used her, she cared deeply, both sides of her did.
Today, as the sun was rising, Rokopelli was pacing the sand, close to the sea so that the froth wetted her paws. Occasionally she would pause to glance out across the water and then she'd turn andpace back the other way. She was clearly distressed, but that wasn't unusual. Ever since her personality shift, she'd been uncomfortable, fidgety and unpredictable. She was teetering on the edge of insanity, tipping, tipping...
"Argh, it's no use! I can't remember! It was either east or west..."
"South?"
"East or West!"
"Only trying to helpses us..."
"Just shut up! Stop confusing me! Or I won't take us anywhere. We'll just stay here!"
She whimpered, but the whimper turned into a growl.
Then, bristling, she continued stalking up the sands, angered further as the crash of a wave splashed against her legs, sloshing onto her side and stomach. She'd wandered too far in.
"Argh, stupid water wets us!!" And she threw herself into it as if it were prey she could bleed beneath her claws.

As the tide pulled in and out and each set of small breaker waves seemed to crash along the sandy shores, it seemed as if the rather large swells at the beach were rather dormant. Whenever the god of the surf was simply crashin', it seemed as if the surf became subtle with a gentleness along with emitting a feeling of tranquility and peace to those who ever happened to catch ear of the sound of the waters soft purring and whispers within the waves. Though most days certainly weren't like this along this particular stretch of beach. Oh no! The waves were always firin' primo style with their powerful roars as they crashed up and seized the sand if only to retreat and pull back in unceasingly.
But today certainly was one of those rare exceptions.
Beneath the water and past the sand bars and down towards the first outcropping of rocks, a rather massive form of brilliant blue and white was suspened off the ground slightly in a woven configure of kelp. It was a contraption that the god called a hammock- it looped around one of the protruding, pointy rock faces and was simply tied and woven kelp which he had bribed a few otters and other creature to help him assemble. It was pretty resistant and taunt and made the perfect hang out spot as most often it seemed that Juuku perfered to stay in the water than on land. The mainlanders were pretty strange and something rather foreign to him. It seemed that there was a structure and an order to every creatures lives, rules to obey and expectations to be met. It was too complicated! Life was meant to live and living meant having fun and catching some serious primo waves, cha? Or at least in Juuku's mind it did! All those brawls, senseless killing and bad juju- it definitely wasn't the scene for a beach bummin' lion, bruddah!
Though while he was asleep as a new presence seemed to amble across the shore, the god of surf seemed out cold. But as the waves continued to roll in and lap at the newcombers paws, the waves seemed to sense something. It was distress, wasn't it? Anger? Yes, but at the sea? That sudden great disturbance of waves caused by the unknown one were wakes of confusion which began to saturate that particular area within the waters. Within several minutes those feelings began to hang heavy within the water, stirring up those same feelings as it was directed towards Juuku.
His body shifted and turned slightly as his mind was secluded within sleep and dreams, dreams that seemed to cause a goofy, lopsided grin to stretch across his maw and most likely it was about the surf. But as those feelings which the waves had sensed then rolled over him, his ears flickered as his eyes slowly began to open.
"Duuuuude, seems like there's someone with some low ju-ju," he commented to himself, the gods eyes looking outwards and up towards the figure in the water. Still those vibes made him concerned for how could someone feel so distressed and even argy-bargy when they were near the surf? It just didn't make sense! As his body shifted slightly, Juuku rolled out from his hammock and suddenly unfurled his wings- giving then a great thrust to propel him forwards before his paws could hit the sand. Tapered, white mane seemed to hang in front of his eyes as the wings that hoovered upon his back, his head and even his back legs gave powerful pumps as he neared close towards the unknown while already those feelings that saturated the water were hitting him more strongly.
Coming within several feet away though still with a comfortable distance between himself and the newcomber, Juuku tilted his head slightly. It was definitely a lioness- though she had wings too! So that made her a goddess. Having face time with one of his own made him happy since it seemed that such a bodacious meeting never happened much. Though it was always ace to meet the mortals and chill with them there was always something about being able to relate to others with wings that was a bit more comforting. The birds were not the best listeners though and most of the time he couldn't even talk to them since they thought that the short visit would cause one of the so called 'winged friends' to become part of the gods next meal. But that was toooootally bogus! The god never ate red meat- he only ate what the sea provided and some of those fleshy, sweet fruits on land- which proved to be the only reason he often went on land.
Juuku shook his head, paws clutching each side of his head. "Focus, dude! Focuuuuuus!" He whispered to himself in a slightly loud voice. The thoughts of Juuku always seemed to deviate from what was important or the main focus. It was always a challenge to stay on the subject or given task.
Taking a slow breath and exhaling it out softly, Juuku began to wander closer up the sand bar underwater as his massive body seemed to lumber. "Talooooofa, dudette!" He called out, swaying his otter like tail behind him.
Quite possibly it must had slipped his mind that he was still under water and trying to have a conversation with another goddess. It was easy to say that most of the time he certainly was oblivious when the other time Juuku was simply just not following the context. Sooner or later he'd realize or at least remember to breathe on her so that she too could at least relax undewater and be able to breathe and speak like he could. But for now he remained...well, he was still talking.
"What brings you out here to the EAC?"

The water was cold. Terribly cold. Rokopelli was a creature of sand, she thrived in the desert, in the heat. It was where she had been born, where she had been abandoned, where she had been imprisoned and where she had returned, after her journey of confusion - to find just a little peace of mind. She had found the snake familiars, she had found a Goddess who she had attached herself to and called mother.
But the peace she had found in 'oblivious joy' had been short-lived. The tormented side of her, brought from her imprisonment, had always lain there dormant and no matter how much she kept the smile on her face, there was always that pain, that sadness glimmering in her one purple eye. The eye that represented the half of her personality who was now in charge of her being.
Half innocent.
Half vengeful.
The wound on her neck was healing now, barely visible unless one looked carefully and saw the odd change in her usually smooth fur. It was a scar brought upon her by her desperate want for vengeance. She'd tried to hold back her anger, tried to keep up her cubbish ways. But eventually it had proved far too much. The battle to forget the past had been lost and like an ugly monster it had reared up to bite her.
It had only been a matter of time, and though she was angry at Katana'k for bringing her pain, it had also released her anger, allowed her to harness it. But that didn't mean she was set out to kill, to become a bloodthirsty demon. No, because deep down, Rokopelli was kind and sweet.
She was just very...confused, and even more so than usual due to this sudden shift in her mind.
Water dripped from the fur around her face, hung from her whiskers and dripped into the waves that bubbled beneath her. She was still now, watching the wobbling image of her paws as they were consumed in the cold depths. Her sides heaved from her momentary burst of anger but it was clear she was calming again, though she was trembling from fear - though what there was to be scared of even she didn't quite know.
And then she raised a forepaw, patting the folding surface of the ocean as if touching something that might bite her.
"We're...in the ocean."
"Two of us?"
"Yes."
It was then that Juuku made himself known and the Goddess, shocked beyond belief, turned her head this way and that, bi-coloured eyes wide and swirling with countless emotions.
"Sea monster!!" She cried, the words free from her mouth before she had time to think about them. Then she started to back away, stumbling over her own paws. Her front half splashed into the water, soaking her chest, neck and face and when she lifted herself up she looked like a half-drowned kitten. Her rainbow wings flared upwards sending diamonds-droplets scattering into the air.
"Is it talking to us, precious?"
"I don't know!"
"It might biteses us, let's run."
"Shut up Roko, didn't I say I'd protect us?" The Goddess stomped her paw as if having a temper tantrum and then puffed up her chest.
And then the determined look faded. "Ee-a-sea?" She flicked an ear, the blank look clear she had no idea what he was talking about. She fluffed and decided to guess an answer. The odds were it'd be right and she'd save herself from looking stupid...or that was the plan.
"Cold." Wasn't it obvious the sea was cold? "Are you...a sea monster? Because if you try to attack us then I'll get mad."

The alarmed cry seemed the God to gasp, swiveling his head as his own wings unfurled beneath the wather and stretched outwards. "A SEA MONSTER! WHERE, WHERE?" He exclaimed, swimming around in a small circle in a wild fashion. His nostrils flared slightly as he rose upwards and through the surface, alert and rather cautious as his massive body stumbled upwards as all four paws sunk into the sand bank and secured his position as the sea itself seemed to become still. Scary monsters were definitely not the best of company and Juuku certainly didn't want them stalking within his waves and even the mere thought of a monster would certainly bring on some bad ju-ju. Though as his eyes continued to scan about the waters, Juuku let out a sigh of relief and gave a lopsided grin as he turned his attention to the Goddess before him.
"Shaw, dudette! I think we scared off that sea monster, cha?" The God couldn't help but thump his otter tail within the water as he stirred up small, non-chalant waves to crest upwards and break against the shore. His mind was well at ease as he lazily glanced back towards the ocean and took a deep breath.
Today was such a rockin day!
Within his mind it seemed already consumed by the thoughts of the surf, primo sets of waves and shootin' the tube and pettin the cat on some seriously rockin' surf sessions. The God mused a rather lazy grin as his tapered, mop-top mane of white whisped about before his eyes. Why was it that the mainlander seemed so sheltered and kept themselves hidden away from the ocean? Seriously, they don't even know what they're missing! They might have the land but a life without the sea was like living and experiencing one world when there was another awaiting anyone that would come to its domain. The ocean was totally sweeeet! But before he could even think about surfin' the swells or musing on and on about what the day held, her confused and slightly baffled tone caught his ears as a soft chuckle escaped from his chest.
"Aw, EAC, dudette! East African Current, cha? Seems like not a lot of mainlanders ever come this way except for some of the surf grommets and some ace members of the Baaahari'mtoootooo come swingin' by. It gets kinda lonely out here...."
His voice drawled out to silence as his lips pursed slightly, more in a dazed and sort of perplexed expression as he let his thoughts tumble from out of his maw.
"....Dude.... are you my conscience?"
Oh yes. The brilliance of the God of Surf! Truth be told he was quite the character but at times it seemed as if his heart was too big for his chest and it was certainly revealed or made known that the God wasn't the sharpest of individuals. But he was certainly loveable, cha?
Before he could let the Goddess answer, Juuku's ears perked upwards as he canted his head. "Aw, naw dudette! I'm not a monster! And I'd never lay a paw on ya. Honest! I don' wanna make you all argy-bargy either because there's no use in makin' someone have some bad ju-ju and ruin their whole day, cha?" Oh no! Even the thought of making someone unhappy didn't settle well with the God of Surf. One was suppose to live their days one at a time- living it up and enjoying it to the fullest while seeking thrills and highs. Life was meant to be lived! Life was suppose to be enjoyed! And what was the fun in ruining someone elses day? Sooner or later Karma would bite back and get its revenge so it was best to just make everyday rockin' and rollin' and helpin' others to have fun too!
The God shook his head fervently, swaying it from side to side in a sweeping motion. "I'm not a sea monster, promise, dudette! But I guess the reason I might of scared ya was I saw you rompin' around the surf and you were toooootally gettin' far away from the shoreline. I wanted to make sure you were okay an' not hurt, ya'know?"
Juuku couldn't help but offer a lopsided grin as he settled onto his haunches in the water.
Sorry for scarin' ya, dudette," he commented, furling his wings against his sides as they hoovered. "M'names Juuku, God of the Surf. Who might you be, dudette?"

She watched him, panic rising in her chest, as he splashed around. The water distorted him, made him look quite monstrous! But his exclamations confused her. Did he not know what he was? She was confused, yes, but she knew what she was even if she didn’t know who she was. What she was; was a goddess. Who she was…well, that was a mystery even she couldn’t uncover.
Her bi-coloured eyes followed him as he swam in circles, clearly quite mad. And here she was thinking that she wasn’t ‘quite there in the head’. This poor creature was obviously far more confused than her – which probably didn’t bode well for any conversation they might have. Confusion x confusion was probably a recipe for disaster.
She shook the water from her fur, paid no attention to how scruffy it had made her look, and backed up further from the froth and the great splashes he was making. Water. Water was odd, especially this water. It was big and it smelt and tasted funny. What was the point of water you couldn’t drink?
And then something happened. The monster, gave up the frenzy and seemed to calm, rising out of the waves. She saw him then, saw him properly. He still looked monstrous and odd but Rokopelli had met enough Gods recently to know that this was one too. Katana’k…Rio…now this one. Were the Gods being sent to torment her? Was she being punished for something? Fear flashed behind her eyes, but anger too. It was odd, the contrast of emotions behind those vibrant eyes. Was this mother’s doing? Was she watching somewhere? Watching her poor, pathetic little daughter being hounded by these others?
And then the ‘monster’ spoke.
Her mouth hung agape. He was speaking but she really had no idea what on earth he was talking about! Was this some other language? A watery, weird language that she had never heard of before? She watched his tail make a splash in the water and cowered a little, though only very slightly.
And then the words kept coming, flowing from his mouth like water itself. His tone was friendly, laid-back and it brought a slight smile to her face though she understood next to nothing of it. She looked into his eyes and saw a different light in them. She recognised the light, the kindness that she had seen in Koya’s eyes as a cub. Eyes like that were rare to come across. Even her own eyes never portrayed it in the way his was doing now. Her eyes always gleamed with confusion, misunderstanding and recently…irritation. Though, actually, that seemed to be changing now.
“Not…a monster? No, not a monster. God.” She didn’t know which was worse.
“What is he talking about, Pelli?”
“Don’t know.”
“Ask?”
Pelli huffed and shook her head as if attempting to rattle the irritating voice out of her ear. No such luck.
“We’re not hurt. Just…lost.” She canted her head and glanced at him. “You won’t hurt us, then? Bad, horrible God hurt us, scratched us up. There was blood. All gone now. We see him again, we’ll hurt him back. No one hurtses us anymore. ‘Pelli protect Roko.” Her words were broken; confusion heightened as she desperately tried to catch hold of his slippery, unusual words.
“We are Rokopelli.” She tucked her wings tightly to her body and dipped her head. Braids of dark, plaited hair fell in front of her face and the sun caught on the gold snake that sat curled on her forehead. “Goddess of Confusion.”
“What is…’surf’?” Her more innocent side chirped, interrupting herself. It seemed this cat was curious; a child-like curiosity that quite often got her into trouble. ”Is it something scary?”

Juuku took a deep breath as his lings filled with the bitter-sweet scent of the ocean that seemed to hang heavily within the air. Though those who often remained loyal and vigilant in visiting the surf would become numb to such a scent the God was always sensitive and receptive to such a marvelous smell! He couldn't help but let a goofy, widespread grin plaster itself upon his maw as he chuckled with a nod of his head.
"Cha', dudette! Definitely not one of those scary monsters. Just a God!" He laughed, thumping his tail as small waves seemed to roll up the shore and retreat just as swiftly.
Being one who hadn't been exposed to other Gods and Goddess's much Juuku couldn't help but feel a bit excited. The exact numbers of immortals was unknown and perhaps would remain in such a state but, for now, at least he was given an opportunity to meet one, right? The stories of some immortals were both terrifying and rather totally awesome! There were some whose reign seemed endless, some who were more specific and some which one wouldn't exactly be lead to believe which held followers but all in all it was something totally bodacious! But for this first encounter it was causing Juuku to be unable to keep himself from smiling. Curiosity seemed to tug at his mind, head tilting slightly as he maw fell ajar slightly and eyes holding a gleaming curiosity. Even as the Goddess before him seemed to hold a duel persona or personality Juuku didn't quite seem to notice but his overall interest in who was before him was still bubbling up questions within his mind.
As his nostrils twitched slightly and ears perked upwards, the God smiled warmly. "Oh, lost? Where is it you're tryin' to get to, dudette? I'm not the best at directions but I'm willin' ta' help ya!"
With only the knowledge of the currents and the tides, Juuku seemed rather useless on the mainland and it seemed everytime he ventured out from his element that he was hopeless in ever going to the place where he wanted to and ended up trying to ask any locals or get a clue on where he was. Though truth be told it seemed that a few of those incidences didn't quite have a good turnout it seemed to keep the God sticking to the water rather than hassling himself to stumble across land and that prickly, sea of green that flooded the mainland.
As she continued talking, Juuku found himself a bit lost. Hurt her? Hurt them? His chest tightening slightly as his posture seemed to tense, eyes widening as a saddened expression crept along his maw. With all things having a place and a domain it seemed inevitable that there were those of bad ju-ju who would do such a things and even a God couldn't escape such emotion. There was always bound to be tension and mistrust amonst Gods and Goddess's but wouldn't it be easier if there was some harmony and peace? Surf seemed to exhale deeply and shake his head, pursing his lips.
"Naw, dudette! I'd never lay a paw on anyone! But that's tooooootally not cool for a God to hurt you though. That God must have had some bad ju-ju floatin' about or somethin' because dudes should know better than to lay a paw on a lady- totally not kosher." He nodded his head as he knitted his brows, a grin stretching across his maw."Well if that dude tries to hurt you again jus' lead him here- I'll teach him a thing or two. Maybe he just needs to listen to the waaaves and relax a bit. Some people are just so tense and uptight and the waves are definitely a rockin' antidote!"
Stress and all of those entangling emotions were such a damper! The best way to loosen up was with the call of the surf or being one with the waves. If the offending God did happen to stumble across Juuku would certainly give him a piece of his mind but as for teaching him with any physical force- well, that was something that Juuku tried to stay away from. In a previous life he only remembered vaugely of what had happened; the seas growing in power and his anger kindling to a level where he had stirred up a sneaker wave to drag and drown a lion who had attacked him for- well, sadly the reason semed hazy yet the recollection of what happened when his own anger and emotions got the better of him was certainly not pleasent. Such a result had driven the God to keep to the surf and away from anything physical least the past would repeat itself and that was something that Juuku would keep from happening.
Quickly he shook his head, whisking away the unwanted thoughts as the Goddess continued to speak. As the lopsided grin returned, Juuku lowered his head in respect as his tapered, white mane whisped about. "Taloooofa Rokopelli! A most radical pleasure to meet you two," he replied, the wings hoovering about his body shifting slightly.
As it seemed that the Goddess interrupted herself, the God simply continued to grin with a fervent shake of his head. "Aw- its not scary at all! The surf is the waves of the ocean- all of this craaazy power and motion and pulls from the moon create the waves to surface upon the ocean and rise upwards with some totally bodacious power! The ocean mistress certainly has a way with it all and the surf is a powerful but beautiful thing!"
His eyes glanced down to the water below as a forepaw began to churn the water slowly and his mind began to conjure the strength beneath the oceans surface. Juuku smiled and looked back towards the Goddess before him.
"Just keep starin' out there, dudette! You'll see what I mean."
From the once docile and glassy waters of the sea it seemed as if something was rising upwards- an unseen entity or force which caused the waters to rise upwards and back, cresting upwards as the sun seemed to dance upon the rushing waters and cause an array of blue, green to cast a dazzling array of colors. White wash began to peak as the wave crested and rolled forward with a powerful yet soothing roar all its own as its motion increased and its structure was begining to give way. With the increasing speed and closing in on the shoreline, the great structure toppled and seemed to cause an explosion of cool mists and ocean spray in all directions while the remnant wash of water and foam seized the sands. But just as the great entity had risen quickly so did the water pull back and retreat as again the surf seemed to give a more soothing sound as it retreated back into its own element and realm.
As a stillness seemed to douse over the surroundings, Juuku laughed. "That so totally rocked, dudette! Its really not scary but it definitely has a bit of edge to it." Musing with curiosity kneading at his mind, the God tilted his head.
"So how does confusion work?"

As she listened to him speak, with both minds, she found that she rather liked him. Yes, she didn't understand half of what he was saying, but he was speaking with such joy, such kindness that she couldn't help but like him. He reminded her of the colour of the sky above the desert, blue against gold. He reminded her of the lush pools that gathered in the jungle after a rainstorm. He reminded her too, of the water that surrounded them. In fact, until just this moment, Rokopelli had never thought much of water. For being a cat and a desert dweller at that, she liked the heat, revelling in water only as a drink, only as a matter of survival. Water had never been leisure, something to be played in. And yet, the very essence of this God was fun and laughter, she could sense it even in her confused state.
There was nothing disagreeable about this God at all and though she'd never been a good judge of character before now, she knew this with all her heart. She was safe in his company.
And then she dipped her ears sheepishly. How many times was she going to have this situation? Flying hopelessly to a destination that she had completely forgotten. Who knows, maybe she had never had a destination in the first place. Or maybe she had and she'd decided against it. She blinked and pawed at the wet sand.
"We don't remember where we're supposed to be going. Got confused and..." She paused, unsure of how to finish her sentence. It pretty much summed it up as it was. She got confused. End of story.
Her brightly-decorated wings drooped a little and she looked up again as he continued.
"Is...ju-ju...like, bad?" She pondered aloud. "Because he was bad. He was big and scary and then he wasn't...then he was evil. He was mother and then we screamed and then he was...Katana'k again. We...think." She blinked. Did that even make sense?
She beamed and fluttered her wings as he announced he was pleased to meet her and took a hop towards him, squeaking as the cold water lapped at her toes. But if the water was as friendly as this God, then maybe it wasn't so bad, so this time she didn't cower back and after a few moments the cold water wasn't so cold.
In fact, it was rather pleasant.
"Out...there...?" She repeated and she shifted her eyes from him to the sea. It was rather nice, actually, standing here listening to the water, the fold of the waves, the gentle ripples, the lapping sound it made as it curled up towards the sand. She'd never realised before that sand and water could go so well and actually the wet sand beneath her paws felt stable and secure as rock.
When it was dry the sand was weak and useless.
When it was wet, it was solid and strong.
If Rokopelli had been one for symbolism and metaphors and all of that poetic lark, maybe she'd have taken more interest in that thought. But for now she was content to put it aside, especially as her new friend seemed to be working his 'magic' on the water before her.
Something was indeed rising up. At first she thought it a monster, rising up as if to confirm to her that water was bad. And then she realised it was no monster at all. It was a wall of shining water, enhanced with beauty by the light of the sun. Her heart was in her mouth, her eyes widening as the tremendous entity of water tipped towards them, threatening to close in around her.
And then it toppled and the sound it made freed Rokopelli from her awe. She shook her head, felt the light touch of the spray on her face and watched as it merged with the sea again, almost as if it had never existed.
She was about to ask him to do it again when he asked his question.
How did confusion work?
Again, the sheepishness returned. What would he say if she told him that she'd never really practiced before, for fear out of hurting someone. Like him, her past hid a memory where her powers had brought death - though in her case; accidental death through irresponsible use of her power. That in turn had brought her mother's wrath and since being freed from her prison she had steered away from it as much as possible.
But not anymore.
With Pelli's rise to authority came the will to start using her powers again, and though Pelli felt Roko shivering somewhere in the recesses of her mind she knew that now, in the presence of a friend, would be a good time to start using the gifts she had been granted.
Or else what was the use of living as an immortal?
"Confusion is...confusing." She smiled. "Hard to explain. Let us try and show you."
"Permission first!" Roko squeaked aloud, her fear of the power giving her strength enough to bring forth words.
"No Roko. Permission not needed for telekenisis. Won't hurt anyone."
The other half of her persona cowered away, giving the Goddess time to focus on a power she had used only once or twice since leaving her prison. She cleared her thoughts - something that took a few moments to do - and then focused hard on the laps of the water at her feet. At first nothing happened and then one of her eyes - the purple one - began to glow. Yet another sign that her two halves were not interlinked as they should have been.
And then slowly the water began to recede and as if there were a shield in front of her the water was diverted away from her paws and sloshed instead, to the sand on either side of her.
She pushed a little harder and the water frothed and bubbled, receding a little further the stronger she pushed. And then, without warning, the surface of the water twirled all around almost as if it danced, almost as if there were tornadoes hidden beneath the surface. The effect of her telekinesis wasn't strong enouch to touch the water further than a metre from her, but it was clear that in time she could become far stronger than what she was. In fact she was rather surprised at how much easier water was to manipulate. She had tried lifting rocks before and had only been able to nudge them a centimetre along the ground before her strength failed.
And then Roko's fearful cry in her mind interrupted her concentration and the water sloshed back over her paws, returning to normal again. She blinked, winced at the pressure headache starting in her temples, and lifted her eyes to glance at him.
"Need practice." She admitted. "Water good. Water easier to move than rocks and snakes." She giggled, remembering her early attempt at trying to get Nyoka to move.

Though his mouth seemed to be running off and he continued speaking, he couldn't help but feel his eyes lured back to her. Being one whose home was the ocean and beneath its glassy surface, Juuku couldn't help but be able to contain his excitement. It was true that the God hadn't met many before who were immortal or blessed with wings but there was something about her- something about the Goddess before him that made him smile and simply be able to have fun and speak of whatever floated into his train of thought. Too often there were those whom he had came across that didn't quite believe in having fun or letting loose which was a bummer and a bit of a serious drag! But Rokopelli seemed like the type who liked to have fun! It was refreshing and made the youthful spirit inside of him simply stir and bubble forth just like the surfs white-wash; it was always there but only seemed to reveal itself at its fullest capacity when the conditions were just right.
The God tilted his head slightly, ears perking up with a slight flicker as a broad grin stretched across his maw.
"Aw- well I totally help ya out if ya remember, dudettes! Least I can do since I'd hate to be stuck somewhere and not know where to go, 'cha?" An even greater smile reached forth and extended as the God chuckled.
"Ya see- there's good ju-ju and bad ju-ju. It really jus' depends on the individual and how their mood or personality is, 'cha? Everyone has ju-ju but its toooootally the individual who makes it rockin' ju-ju or ju-ju you just wanna stay away from, ya'know? If they're really, really evil and bad news like it seems this God was then the bro'sef has some SERIOUSLY bad ju-ju if he lays a paw on you and hurts you but if they're really nice and tooooootally fun to be around then they have good ju-ju. Catchin on?"
Juuku seemed to purse his lips slightly, his head raising upwards at a normal angle as his brows knitted.
Mother? Though he wasn't sure what to ask or how to make it so Rokopelli didn't feel as if he was digging his paws into something he shouldn't be, it was strange. Did the dudette have some problems with her mother-unit? Maybe. But he didn't have any right to be makin' a speculation of somethin' he truly didn't know about. But the name- or the dudes name, Katana'k, was something he'd have to keep in mind. If this Katana'k was gonna mess with Rokopelli again then Juuku had just the God to help put him back in his place along with a few other good friends who'd be more than willing to lend a paw. Maybe that would teach the God to back down!
While the remnant wakes of the wave rolled out and onto the shore, pulling back while the soft and solemn voices of the ocean mistress continued its solacing song that tickled the ears of the God, Juuku simply grinned from ear to ear rather anxious of the Goddess's power. His toes wriggled within the sands as his peculiar tail thumped within the waters with anticipation.
Even Juuku himself was still learning about his powers and harnessing a deeper knowledge of what mysteries the surf had yet for him to learn and understand, the God felt as if that even those who hadn't been adamently training and learning still were no better than those who had been training and training to become one with their abilities. Who was to say that one simply knew and understood everything? Learning was a continual process and something that could surprise even the most knowledgable sorts and individuals. Wasn't there always something new to discover? Certainly there was no end to what one could learn, right?
Or at least Juuku thought so.
The God couldn't help but laugh softly. "Dudette, even for me confusion seems a bit confusing but so totally rockin'!" A rumble rose from his chest, one that was pleasant and ever curious. Even as Roko squealed, Juuku gave an enthusastic nod of his head.
"'Course, dudette! I tooooootally want to see!"
Silencing himself as the Goddess began to focus, Juuku lowered his body down and his head closer towards the water. As something was happening, Juuku couldn't help but feel ticklish as the surf was becoming manipulated which caused the God to bite down on his lower lip and try to keep from laughing- though not in a mocking way, it seemed as if the sensations upon the water brought rise to sensations within himself which certianly were pleasant! Fighting with himself to keep from being disruptive, a gasp seemed to escape from his maw while his jaw hung ajar. His sea blue eyes locked upon the water, watching it receed and froth and bubble until it became like a twister or a crazy water tornado! Juuku's eyes widened as his body slumped into the water simply drawn to such a thing much like a creature drawn to pure light or ridiculously shiny objects. Never had he seen such a thing before! It was strange yet beautiful!
As his nose seemed to draw closer and closer, the water broke free from its swirling vortex and sloshed up at him in the face. Juuku laughed and shook his head as the salt water had no effect at affecting his eyes.
"DUUUUUUDE!" He exclaimed, his face dripping with water as his cheek fur hung down.
"YOU SO TOTALLY ROCK! That was crazy! Some made crazy skills, Rokopelli! That was totally bodacious and rockin'! But ya know its practice that makes perfect, 'cha? I'm sure you'll get wicked strong! Dudette I'm pooooositive you will!"
The God gave a lopsided grin as he chuckled, rising up to his paws as the water dripped from his thick, fur and simply rolled off. As he curled his tail around him, Juuku couldn't help but still remained a bit mystified and strung out with an adrenaline rush of excitement which coursed through hsi veins."First I was like 'WOAH!' And then you made the water all swirly and I know you were thinkin' 'WOAH DUDE!' And then I'm sure were were totally like 'WOOOOOOOAH!' Totally awesome dudette."
With his wings curling about his body, Juuku smiled.
"How would you like to swim in the ocean with me Maybe you can make your trick work better underwater, cha?"

Rokopelli certainly was one to have fun. She looked at the world as if everything was a game. She didn’t understand responsibility. And why should she? She’d never been taught to be responsible. The only lessons she had learned was that blood-mothers were horrible, powers were dangerous and that the world was confusing. But despite the hardships in her life she was still carefree and innocent – for the most part – even with Roko submitting to her ‘darker’ side. It would be wrong to call Pelli dark. The divide between them wasn’t good and evil. It was innocence and anger that divided them. Both sides of her personality were good and kind-hearted, but Pelli had an edge to her. Push her too far and the anger would consume and confuse her.
But in Juuku she’d found a friend, a fellow fun-lover, a God she could actually relax around.
And she smiled and flickered her wings at his explanation of this new word; ju-ju, deciding that she liked it and that she wanted to try her best to steer away from the bad side of it. She shook her head so that the dark braids danced around her face. It was safe to say that the God had already found a friend for life in Roko, so long as he didn’t do anything to scare her off.
And what better friendship good there be than water and sand? As Rokopelli had unknowingly discovered, water strengthened sand. Maybe in Juuku she would eventually find a peace of mind. A fun-loving, surfing kind of peace, but peace none-the-less. And for once, she could forget about being lost, forget about the pain and the fear and the sadness and think of spending the day just relaxing.
She thought briefly of Nyoka, the green snake back I n the desert, and wondered if he missed her. Was Janja right? Had Nyoka never really loved her? Had they never really been best friends? She nursed the sadness of that thought until it had all but healed, but sometimes the scar itched and it itched now.
And as she regained her strength from the use of magic, she heard his blurted words and practically bounced with excitement. She was an adolescent in appearance, but still very much a cub at heart. His words made her so stupidly happy that she couldn’t describe them if she had wanted to. Finally, she’d met someone who thought that she was something more than just a freak.
“We hope so.” She replied. “We must get strong so mother can’t hurt us anymore. We must get strong so that we can control it, even in confusion.” She flicked her tail. “Then no more bad things can happen to us and we can forget…” Forget what? Her past? “We’re glad you like our powers. Some people think they are scary. Roko included. But we’ll be better. We’ll control them and everything can be good.”
And then he was describing the magic she had woven into the water and her heart thumped against her chest. It had taken her so much focus and concentration that she had not had the time to appreciate what it was she was doing. She saw the particles that formed the water, focused on them until they danced with the wishes of her mind. But she had not seen the overall extent. And listening to Juuku made her realise that powers could be beautiful and exciting.
And then she took a back step, glancing towards the water sceptically. Could she even swim? She’d paddled in the water quite happily, but the look of the waves and the strength she had sensed in them worried her. What if she drowned? Would she be reborn and be forced to relive her whole torturous experience? She shuddered, stepping closer to Juuku as if he could protect her from these thoughts.
“We…we don’t know how to swim.” She peeped. “We never learned. There was no big water in the desert, only little pools that weren’t no good for swimming in.” She glanced at him, seeking something. Courage, maybe? But she was curious about her powers and if she got into trouble underwater then she could always call to him. She had her telepathy, after all. With it she could communicate with him no matter where she was. Whether at his side, under the water or on the other side of the savannah. So long as she knew the pattern of his conscience, she could speak with him. But for that she had to touch his mind first, to learn it.
“Do you…think you could teach us? We would like to learn.” Again she eyed the water as if it were a dog, growling at her paws, threatening to bite. The shallows were fine, she could deal with them. “Water has good ju-ju, right?”

Fun was something that the God craved. Though he was dilligent in his duties and took pride in the surf, the need for fun and games always appealed to the God no matter what the situation. Life was for living, wasn't it? With the push and pull of the rolling swells there always seemed time to let loose, relax and catch a few waves rather than become so consumed within 'work' and the expectations of others. It was all about living one step at a time and taking it easy; that laid back and nonchalant mentality of being able to roll with the punches and playing the cards which life had dealt him. Though Juuku's life hadn't always been sweet, like most it had its share of bitter moment and incidents which silently plauged he and his emotions. But even through such trials and occurances, there was nothing to do but live for today but look forward to tomorrow and keep smilin'!
There were times where the blues bogged him down and the surf didn't swell- times where he felt so sublevel that he retreated into the water and strayed away yet time couldn't be wasted and he had snapped himself out of it and found things to occupy and bring that totally bodacious outlook and mentality back into play and it had yet to fail him.
Meeting Rokopelli only added to his excitement as a new friend definitely had come his way. Adrenaline and pure thrill seemed to flow thick through his veins as he nodded his head, attention focused upon the Goddess.
"Aw dudette! You will!" He replied, chuckling with a light, lopsided grin. "You'll get toooooootally strong and learn to control it. Trust me, it takes time but you'll definitely get the swing of it all, 'cha?" Juuku's tail thumped behind him, paws wriggling within the sand. "Naw- not scary at all! You just have to prove to people that they're not scary and show 'em up! Just keep practicin' and that's all to it!"
It seemed so strange yet so mysterious to him. Whether she realized it or not there was a certain beauty to her powers which seemed to manipulate the water and sand into something more than simply the everyday, ordinary object. Though the God had weilded his powers and tested them for countless years (or at least the time where he wasn't reborn due to a silly stunt that had gone wrong), there was no doubt in his mind that Rokopelli would find just as much success and thrill in her abilities like he did. There was a part of him that was anxious to see the extent of her powers- curious of seeing her discover and grow.
When the suggestion for swimming arose, Juuku watched as the Goddess stepped a bit closer as his wings unfurled outwards and slightly curled around her. The slight unsettling thoughs that seemed to cross upon her face only seemed to make her worry but there was nothing to fear. Juuku would be with her every step of the way! As his ears perked upwards and he listened, the God smiled warmly. Growing up within the wakes of the surf and the crashing waves had molded a God whose comfort in the water was just as natural as any felines comfort on land and teaching someone else to swim would be easy! He had done it before and thankfully just a breath upon anothers face would let them breathe underwater and discover the waves and their power. It was simple, really.
"Pshaw! Well you're toooootally talkin' to the right dude!" He laughed, with a fervent nod of his head. "I'll teach ya! I'm sure you'll love it. The waters hard to ignore after you leave it so any thrill seekin' an bodacious adventures will require a simple breath on the face, cha?"
The large god lumbered forward, smiling as he breathed into her face just long enough for the effect to give a strange, tingling sensation or something much like an icy chill against the face it caressed against. Its effects lasted until the session was over or when both God and Goddess would retreat back and plant first paw on the sands of the shore. Juuku couldn't help but chuckle once again as an even greater, lopsided grin stretched across his maw.
"Water toooootally has good ju-ju, or at least right now it does. Though you jus' gotta be careful and only go out when its toooootally bazzin and choka but don' go out when the waters are really aggro with an oncomin' storm which cause the oppu's to come and drag you out. Gotta be careful or else you'll definitely get hell munched out there." His words were slightly ponderous, attempting to explain it right and hopefully not confusing her. It was a bit hard; the waves and surf certainly were controlled by his own temperment and to say that the surf always had good ju-ju wouldn't be right for, at times, great swells and crashing waves could threaten the innocent and the oblivious. The last thing he would want to happen is for a friend to get hurt!
Juuku flicked his ears slightly but playfully bumped into her with his side. "If you run into trouble definitely just call my name, Rokopelli! I'm always here or wherever the surf roams so I'm never too far, cha?"
Proceeding forward a few steps as the waters came up to his legs, the God grinned.
"Are you ready to rip, roll and punch it rockin' Roko?"

She puffed up proudly, the necklace about her neck glittering in the sunlight. She wanted to be strong. So strong that no one could ever hurt her again. Then she could be happy. She wouldn't have to keep looking over her shoulder, not if she could beat her mother. If she could beat her then she'd never be pushed around by anyone again! (Or so she believed). In truth Rokopelli was as easy to manipulate in this state of mind as she was in her previous.
"We will! We'll practice every day! Promise!"
Rokopelli was still in the discovery mode, like a cub who had just discovered that it had legs in which to walk. The feeling she had when she used her mind to do things that no one else could, it was exhilirating! But scary too. There was always that fear of what her powers could do. But Juuku was right, if she practiced then she could use them and no innocents would ever get hurt.
She looked at him as he unfurled his wing and blinked innocently, there was an innocent curiousness in her eyes that told of her state of mind as clearly as if she had the feelings tattooed on her face.
"Breath on...face?" She echoed quietly, tilting her head. "What do you mean?" But before the question was fully out he was leaning close and breathing on her.
It was hard to describe the sensation. She'd never really felt anything quite like it! It reminded her of the time she'd flown in a rainstorm, but the rain would have had to have been colder to replicate anything to the feeling she felt now. A shudder ran down the length of her spine and the fur along her neck and shoulders fluffed briefly. Then she shook herself, flattened the fur and giggled at him.
"Weird~" She chirped merrily, fluttering her wings in a typical butterfly fashion. She listened to him as one would listen half-drunk. She could see his mouth moving but not all of the words got through. She was giddy with excitement and bouncing eagerly towards the water's edge. She was ready! She could do this!
She heard him mentioning something about being careful and hell but just nodded, open-mouthed and wide-eyed. She must have looked like quite a fool, but she didn't care. She was like an excited puppy and nothing was going to drain it away!
"Okay! Will call your name if there's trouble!" And then at his question she nodded her head fiercely. "Yup, yup, yup! Ready!!" And she bounced towards the sea, barely able to contain herself.
"Pelli...remember?"
"Oh, yes, yes." She flicked an ear. "Can we touch your mind? Before we swim, I mean. Roko makes Pelli get permission."

There was an innocence and a great spirit about Rokopelli that Juuku admired- he couldn't keep a great, lopsided grin from plastering itself upon his maw as the pull of the tide seemed to create a relaxing, pleasing sensation as it wisped about his tapered fur upon his legs and tail. Seeing the Goddess made the God simply chuckle to himself, finding such fun while being around her. It was good for a change and for a new friend! Lately the small seahorse which often accompanied him had vanished and the sea turtle that often lazed about with him certainly had swam elsewhere or found something more exciting than he. But no matter! The massive beast had certainly found a friend of whom he could have fun with and someone to swim within the waves with.
Anxious orbs of purest blue, much like the sea itself, watched as Rokopelli bounded forward towards the sea. Juuku swayed his otter-like tal in the water as he stepped out furture as the water began to breach up towards his stomach. Being one with thick fur the God didn't quite notice that brisk sensation of the cool waters against his body but that pleasent sensation seemed to still cause a chill or two to course down his spine as adrenaline surged through his veins and into his blood.
"Toooootally," Juuku lazily replied with a smile. "Ya jus' gotta stay close to me, dudette and it will all be righteous!"
The wings upon his head and those by his feet which were submerged fluttered with great excitement as, again, he stepped into the deeper water and let his body become limp and loose. The water began to carry him as the great mass of fur and wings lazily floated within the water while his otter tail seemed to steer him in the desired direction which was out in front of the Goddess.
Juuku bobbed up and down, his form rolling with the pull of the waves and current while he tilted his head slightly. For a moment a slightly perplexed expression crossed upon his maw as his brows knitted in curiosity. Touch his mind?
Oooooh!
The God fervently nodded his head and laughed. "Most definitely! Permission graaaanted!"
Though he was still a bit confused with what she meant, Juuku kept that ever present expression plastered upon his face as his large body wriggled with excitement like a estatic seal. There was so much to show Rokopelli and he could only hope that she'd have fun for what good was an adventure if there wasn't any fun?

And after this meeting Rokopelli was sure never to look at water the same way again. After today the water would not be cold and scary, not intimidating and brutal. It would be fun. It would capture her heart. And even when she returned home to the desert a little of her would crave for the froth of the waves and Juuku’s contagious enthusiasm that had helped dissolve Rokopelli’s wariness. Because after today her eyes would have been opened a little.
“Okay, stay close.” And she closed her eyes.
Maybe in time she would find it easier to use her magic, or maybe it would always take a lot of concentration to complete such mental tasks. Either way she found herself slipping into a trance – made easier by the fact that her other personality was allowing it. Apparently, so long as Roko felt that Pelli was doing something right, she’d make things easier. And easier it was! With the two personalities harmonising came the astonishing fact that actually, if they worked together they could accomplish much more than if they were in conflict.
And with her mind’s eye she reached out, brushing her consciousness against his. The feeling was odd and she’d never got quite used to touching another’s thoughts. She’d done this with Nyoka often enough that she had been able to talk to him as easily with thoughts as she could speaking aloud. But touching another’s mind always brought something different. She didn’t know why or what it was.
~Now we know you.~ She thought to him, and as quickly as she had touched his mind, she withdrew again, blinking her eyes to clear her vision. Then with a little laugh she bounded into the waves, gasping as one caught her in the chest and flooded her veins with cold. Then she pushed her paws against the bottom and urged herself towards him. She was fine so long as she could touch the bottom. She felt safe, as if the water couldn’t get her.
And then a wave lolled up and instead of bobbing with it as Juuku was doing she held onto the bottom and the wave rolled over her head. She gurgled and spluttered and grimaced at the odd taste of the water in her mouth. She just couldn’t understand it! What was she doing wrong? Why did Juuku move with the wave? Was it because the water didn’t like her? Was it trying to stop her from swimming?
She opened her mouth to ask and again it was filled with water. She choked, shook her head and took a step back to where it was slightly shallower, the water lapping at her chin.

Likewise the God himself felt that he not only was learning more about the Goddess before him, he was learning more about himself. Through Rokopelli Juuku was understanding more about the world around him and his own powers- there was still so much more to learn and great lengths for him to go and understand all there was which needed to be understood but he was tackling it one step at a time. Even so there was something about the Goddess's personality which made him feel more at ease, relaxed and comfortable as for as long as he could remember he hadn't always been so willing to venture up into the mainland or drift around near the locals. Step by step he was gaining more of a confidence and a mentality that he could do what he pleased while making sure to stay out of trouble.
As the waves gently caused him to drift about, the Gods mind was laid back and sub-level though his cerulean orbs were keeping a close eye on the Goddess if only to make sure that nothing would hinder her progress. Though as other thoughts and silent reflections seemed to bounce within the confines of his mind, there was a strange sensation that seemed to skim the top of his conciousness as a strange, unusual yet soothing sensation stirred.
His posture seemed to tense slightly, eyes looking around curiously as his wings lowered into the water and propelled him forward just a bit before the Goddess's voice sounded within his mind. Juuku chuckled softly, giving a lopsided grin.
Aw- that was toooooootally rockin', dudette! He replied with great enthusiasm.
Just as quickly as her presence left, Juuku continued to keep a close eye on her and it seemed that from out of the corner of his eye a small wave was headed towards her, rolling over her. The god's eyes widened, wings pumping furiously in the water as he darted towards her. "ROKOPELLI!" He called out, nearly exclaiming loudly with a voice as powerful as the roaring surf. "Roko? Dudette are you okay?" It didn't take him long to come to her side, trying to help lift her head upwards with his as he slid it beneath her chin.
"Its not your fault Roko," He chuckled softly, unable to keep from smiling. "The waves tooooootally have a motion. You can't go against them- you have to moooooove with them. When they come your way, you have to swim straight and keep yer body tooooootally mellow and without tension so the wave pulls you up and over. Its kinda hard to grasp but I'll help ya, dudette!" Keeping her head up as another wave passed, the God grinned.
"You can so totally do this! Rockin' Roko!"

Maybe they could live for hundreds of years and never learn everything about themselves or the world around them. Maybe they would never reach their potential. Either way, Rokopelli had vowed to understand her own powers enough to keep her and others she loved safe. She was also learning that Gods could be good friends and not just good enemies.
She heard him calling her name and opened her mouth to reply, choking on salty water again. Clamping her jaws shut she focused on mind-speech instead. At least that didn't involve opening her mouth.
~We're okay. Water got in our mouth and choked us!~
Seeing that he used his wings to help propel him through the water she spread hers and pushed downwards, surprised to find herself lifting above the surface of the water. She raised her wings and she felt the tips of her paws against the ocean floor again. Feeling the stability beneath her despite of all the water, gave her some sense of stability, though it was doing her more harm to cling to it's surface.
And then Juuku's head was propping hers above the waves and she snorted water form her nose, giggling.
"Okay!" She breathed as she listened to his guiding words. "We'll try our best!" And she collected herself to let go, to push into the waves and try to move with the waves instead.
And pushing off from the sea floor she moved away from it's safety, trusting that if something happened, Juuku would be at her side. He'd already proved that now and there was no reason to fear the water if he protected her if she got into trouble.
She paddled with clumsy fury. Her paws working like clockwork to drag hreself through the water. Maybe one day she'd look graceful, but at that moment, doggy-paddling through waves that crashed over her head, she looked no better than a drowning rat. Either way it was clear she was eager, and enjoying herself.
~We're doing it! We're doing it! Do you see, Juukie?~ She'd reverted to mind-speech again but the emotion was clear. She was brimming with excitement and joy, joy that was innoccent and child-like.
She swivelled around to face him, pushing down with her wings so that her head and shoulders rose up from the surface. Her laughter rang clear through the air.
