Unlike its surroundings, this beautiful sandy beach spreads for nearly 2000 foot paces south. The Ocean is not too far off.

Savith: Weeks pass as the two travel, meandering slightly as they made their way eastward once more. Food was starting to run thin, what with game and plantlife still recovering, and fresh water was had to come by. The rations, no doubt, had become a point of contention between them, as Savith tried to do the 'noble thing' and give part of his share to the woman despite his still healing injuries. It's on the afternoon when they had but a few drinks left of fresh water, and only one strip of dried meat left, that the shimmer of water beckoned from up ahead.

Starsong: At first Starsong thought she was seeing things. she licked her dry lips but barely any moisture on her tongue remained. She coughed a bit and squinted a bit to look harder. **Do you see... is that....??** She wasn't as tall as Savith was and she climbed up on a nearby rock. Shine keeping to the tree's for shade. It was hot, and dry.

Savith: Savith squinted into the horizon, bringing his good hand up to shade his eyes. **I can't tell from here,** he replied. Taking a breath, the glider forced himself up into the air for a better look. He rose unsteadily, straining until a cool salt-flavored breeze pulled at his hair. He stopped, hanging in midair and looked in wonder. **Water, the Vast Deep,** he sent down with the breathless wonder of a much younger elf. The vision he sent with it was breathtaking. In a world of disaster and destruction, the ocean beyond seemed unmarred and safe.

Starsong: Starsong sat on the rock and looked at the faint glimmer while the visions Savith sent washed over her like the cool breeze he was feeling. She sighed audibly and a smile spread across her face. It may not be fresh water, but at least it was water... and where there was water, there was bound to be food. Knowing she couldn't sit there all day and dream about the vast deep she slid off the rock and sent to Shine the images of water and food. He got up and started to lumber a bit faster, the pace seemed to have picked up.

Savith: The breeze was refreshing, the promise of cool water exhilirating, and as Shime and Starsong below found their pacing picking, so too did Savith fly the will to fly faster. The freedom of not being bound by the pull of the world, and the hope of what the ocean can promise, pulled him forward as wordless images spilled from him.

Starsong: It wasn't too much longer before they found themselves on a pristine white beach, the ocean not more than 300 foot steps in front of them. She looked up at Savith, like a child, with glee in her eyes and bound forward for the open water. Clothes being lost along the beach as she went before diving into the oncomming tide. Whoops of joy and exhileration.

Savith: The glider slid down into the surf, tattered Chosen's uniform and all. He sunk down to his knees, ducked under to wet and cool his hair, and came up, shaking his head, and grinning despite himself. A sigh escaped him, phsycially and mentally, as the cool water brought relief to his fatigued body. He stretched out, half floating in the water. It's the closest thing to floating in a cloud...without having to work for it.

Starsong: Starsong splashed around, cleaning herself and having a pretty darn good time at it. She hadn't been to the Ocean in a long long time and it felt great on her hot skin. It was just too bad she couldn't drink it. She dove down, the water here wasn't strange, it had seemed very untouched. Life swam below her and she dove down to collect some of it with her obsidian dagger which was always strapped to her theigh. After a while she came back to the shore near Savith, unabashed in her nakedness and dropped a few brightly colored fish and some clams on the sandy beach. A smile spread across one side of her face.

Savith: Savith half watched the elfess splash about and he rinsed out his hair, occasssionaly frowning and turning his face from her before shaking his head as if to clear it. When she returned to him, he hefted himself up, ringing out his locks and pushing the water from his uniform with magicks. Noting the smile, he quipped, mood positively light-hearted by comparison to the last few weeks, **Now why do you smile so?**

Starsong: She sits down and hands him a fish, taking one herself and biting into the still slightly wriggling flesh. She shrugs and continues to eat. Shine having emerged from a nearby tree to snatch up a fish and return to the shade. **Couldn't help it. It just... it just seemed like a reward at the end of a difficult hunt... you know, the prized buck!** She wasn't sure if he understood the feeling but it didn't matter, it felt good to her.

Savith: The Chosen finds himself chuckling. **So it does,** he replies with some warmth. **So it does.** Pulling is own small brightmetal knife, Savithcarefuly cleans and frees bite-sized pieces of flesh for himself as he looks around teh paradise they had stumbled upon. **All we need is water,** he comments, a touch of the all-business threatening to return.

Starsong: She finishes her fish and starts to dig into the clams. The time she visited a wavedancer holt, the chief there showed her how to find and open clams. She had always found them to be a great treat to eat them. After finishing her meal she looks east at the vastdeep waters, then back west, there was some cliffs in the distance, and where there were cliffs, there was shelter. **The sun should be setting soon, we can head for those cliffs for shelter, maybe we can find a spring nearby.**

Savith: Savith turned to look behind him, at the cliffs. He frowned for a moment then, with a breath, he nodded. Finishing his own meal quickly, he pushed himself to his feet, the fatigue returning to his face and mind. **Let's find a place to settle them, before it gets to dark for my dull-eyes to see.**

The wavedancer had been busy. Since he'd run from the Glider without a Bird and the female with a Cat he had set his thoughts to gathering food. Alone. His coil of rope was enough for one net if it wasn't too large, and his weapon would help with defense or killing of larger prey.

The net was 'open', braced with a few stout and bare branches to hold the dead fish without leaving them in the sun. It merely had to hold them and not let smaller predators take them. That was easily spotted from the beach edge. The branches standing upright in the water while the net was deep enough that birds wouldn't simply snatch inside the net.

There was no other sign of the wavedancer for the wind erased any definite tracks.

Adin Crosscurrent had noticed the legged-diver in the water as he gathered, but she seemed happily engrossed with looking at some of the coral and smaller fish schools. He had watched her a moment warily that she didn't lack common sense and try to frolic on the sharp edged reef before continuing to bring his catch to his net.

Since he had no net he had taking to hunting the eight-legged Inkspitters, starfish, and the larger types of fish. It meant he could only kill two at most before darting back toward the beach to secure them. A tiring task that the arrival of Dancer happily put off.

It was amusing somehow to watch her move around. Fire Bright, on the other hand, was still very large and likely still very hungry. And apparently it liked swimming...

His red tail shifted to legs as he entered the shallow area where his net was staked. One arm carried the last fish, the other his weapon. He couldn't help but watch the tiger warily as it noticed him.

Despite the predator Adin Crosscurrent took this moment to put the fish in the net before sinking to lay just beneath the water's surface. His brother might enjoy basking on the beach and sun, but he preferred seeing the sky under inches of moving water. Toes (strange sensenations!) wiggled a little, and calves 'kicked' lightly in idleness.

Dancer had Sent that she was here, and he'd seen her already, but she seemed to be having fun. Besides, it was good to take a break after darting around like an eel. No doubt Fire Bright would alert her to his resting spot soon anyway...

There had been a strong Sending 'scream' earlier that had made his heart race as if facing blood hungry sharp-teeth. It was no one he knew. And to be honest he had no desire to investigate one who might be maddened by loss.

As soon as the male was spotted Fire Bright became business. Crouching low a deep warning grumble escaped him and as soon as Dancer surfaced she noticed the change. Swimming to where she could easily stand the cat was sent from the water. She motioned him to the beach and moved closer to what he was growling about. Her face lit up as she spoke his name. "Crosscurrent! It has to be you. How long have you been here?" Her voice was birdlike and sweet sounding, blue eyes moved to the staked nets. "Look at all the fish you brought us. You are a wonder at fishing." She chuckled softly and sat next to him for a moment. "Will you come meet the others? I'm sure they would want to thank you as best they can. I know I could never thank you properly for this bountiful harvest you have brought. " Turning to look at him again but not wanting to seem to nosey about what he was she smiled. "Please come. It would make everyone so happy to see yet another survivor."

A smile as her questions tumbled like playful dolphins around him, he waited until she took a pause (did she not need air either?) before sitting up. Light blonde hair went flat against him as he did so although the low ponytail kept it from tangling all about.

Dancer seemed so young with those questions and fearless curiousity, not to mention her single mindedness to make friends. It was a mild sting of saltwater to a scratch to those he was missing. Thankfully by being here she also made a balm against the loneliness. So he gently leaned forward and (again, gently) pinched her nose slightly and wiggled it in greeting.

Many animals, including cats, communicated by nosing others. Of course he also expected it to shock her some. Perhaps long enough to answer? This playful touching was something him and Adir did much of as younglings.

"One of a handful it sounds like," he replied to her last comment. A light tenor voice that was instinctivly the soothing tone of a big brother. "I have seen only Eltiln since the moons shattered. And while I too am glad others live I do not wish to be swept away in the choas of so many new faces right now."

Adin Crosscurrent released her and stretched his long arms high up to arch his back. Green eyes half closed as he waited for her to once again resume her child-rapid chatter. The fins on his forearms were small, but a vivid red that he honestly no more remembered then one would their eye color. No more exotic then her darker tan was.

The youthful and inquisitive elf fluttered blue pools at his touch. Once the nose wiggle came she rolled those eyes a bit and chuckled. If her playfulness and joy was seen as childish then so be it. She could not help but be the spritly happy smile in what she considered a bunch of elders who were sooo overly serious. At least Crosscurrent smiled. A soft sigh escaped Dancer as she glanced back at Fire Bright who was watching this new elf closely as he lie quietly on the beach. "Do you want to touch Fire Bright?" The question was quiet as she expected him to decline the offer. "You could give him one of the many wonderful fish you have gotten." Her gaze turned to the sky then to the great waters before her. At the moment it seemed peaceful and this moment in time was good. "It's ok if you don't want to meet the others yet but it will make them suspicious of you. It seems to be in their nature to be fearful of new things and new friends." She noticed those little red fins on his arms and recalled his preferred sleeping quarters. He really did live in the water didn't he. A wide smile lit up the already bright face of this catelf laughed out loud. "We have come to exist in the air, on the land and in the waters, even the oversized and awkward five fingers can say that." She flicked some water off her slender fingers at Crosscurrent and giggled just a bit. "So I have to take all this fish to everyone?" Those catlike eyes became slits with an devilish little grin. "Then I'm telling everyone I caught them." She laughed knowing none would believe her but she didn't care in her fun.

"Go ahead. Take what your friend doesn't eat," he said, with a shake of his head at the offer to pet the predator. His opposite hand expertly splashed a small wave back at Dancer for her finger-flicker.

A slightly pensive frown as he weighted down options. He needed the net, but not right away. But Crosscurrent had no wish to be surrounded by tense elves (Go-Back and Glider especially) even if he wanted to get Eltiln's body back to the Vast Deep. Myuadai had left to find the tribe and would expect him near the Cove; not to mention it sounded like these elves could use help fishing...

Another splash at her to distract her as his mind played everything out. Then a rueful grin. It wasn't as if a child who befriended a large predator would be so fragile. He didn't dare hint that either if her pride was anything like those he'd known.

"Perhaps you could do me a favor then," he said with a hint of humour in his green eyes. His tone a little sober.

"As long as nobody is hurt I will do as you ask." She looked at the green eyes that made her think of the lush bushes and trees of the jungle. The soft smile still on her lips as she spoke to Crosscurrent. She knew he didn't want anyone harmed or he himself might have done so by now. The great cat behind her let out growlish roar as he stood. All the fussing from the other elves set him to be more alert to things. Dancer lifted her head and looked around before smiling at Crosscurrent again. "Tell me what I might do to help you my friend then I should go see all the new elves that are coming out of the wood work." That light birdsong giggle escaping her once again.

Crosscurrent sighed at the reminder of all the new, strange elves arriving. 'Hardly my haven pools anymore,' he thought before bringing his thoughts back on track.

"Only your sense might suffer, Dancer. And this favor meets all ends." Standing up he went to loosen the net from the branches pinning it down as he kept talking.

"Since my net is somewhat loose you'll need to gathering some large leafed branches to layer it. I'll prepare these fish for you since I doubt you know what parts not to eat. You can take them back to your newly gathering tribe then. Explore them all you like. But when you bring me back my net I would be .. glad.. if you would bring Eltiln with you."

He was no stranger to death, but he couldn't look at her as he finished hauling the large catch towards the beach. Wanting to clean his catches quickly - putting the needs of others above the heart pain he felt.

"In that pool I covered with the shade branches. It's a little deeper then your head when standing, but the litter should be easy enough to bring up." A sad smile as his hands went to work. "I think you can use the net to keep him on it until you get back. I just don't want any of the many tense animal-companions you and the others have to, well, eat him as it were."

Now he could look at her. His hands still busy. A somewhat rueful look as he acknowledge not only his shyness of such dangerous predators, but his loss he was still slow to easing.

"I had planned on bringing him back to the Vast Deep anyhow. And while young Eltiln may no longer care I have no wish to see the stares of others right now."

OOC: might not be on the comp for the rest of the weekend. I can't be definite. So he'll be busy preparing the fish, starfish and octopus, then stay in the water by the beach.

The wide smile shrunk just a bit. It was a tender look of understanding. How her heart ached to be able to lay her friends and family to rest but she could not bring herself to look at her tribes living area after a few days of sending. Trying hard to reach anyone who might still breath. She recalled the ground ripping open, Fire Bright running and things going black as the ground under her tried to rid itself of all the tiny pests that ran on it. Like an animal might roll in dirt to rid itself of fleas. His heart longed to place his friend or family back in the sea. She moved closer to him and wrapped slender arms around him. Whether he needed or wanted it she hugged him. She needed it. The others were concerned with bellies and sleeping areas. Dancer had always been concerned with ones inner well being and now that she held him her own heart felt the great release of emotions she held inside. It caused tears to flow freely and she squeezed him tight. **I will do as you ask my friend. It would be my honor.** The send filled with the overflow of emotions that were bottled up and hidden. A mix of pain, sadness, fear, despair, loss, longing, joy and most of all hope.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 02, 2008 2:16 am

"Land elves.." he said with mock despair. His head tilted to rest against Dancer's, fair to dark, to communicate while his hands kept working. With so many to prepare he had no time to waste. He tossed a few toward (not at!) Fire Bright to take the edge of the predator's hunger.

Crosscurrent had already cried hard when his young friend died, but he found more grief in her understanding embrace. There was no shame for the tears that fell as the emotions of her Sending touched him deeply. It was nice to be comforted, even if she didn't know Eltiln.

He missed the songs: ones that celebrated those whose spirits rejoined the High Ones, and told of the elf from friends and family. Wolfriders did something like it with their howls. Even the five-fingered ones sang. He'd heard them in his many seasonal tides. One short version sprang to mind as he wept, although the voice hadn't been as true as an elven one.

Heavy the beat of the weary waves,
Falling, falling, o'er and o'er upon the rocky shore,
When he comes no more alas! no more!
Och-one! Evermore, Och-one.

Tears of despair from the weeping sky,
Falling to the earth beneath,
And o'er the gloomy heath
Hangs a misty pall of death, of death!
Och-one! Evermore, Och-one!

The tender hearted elf pulled herself from the embrace as she took a deep breath. She felt her cheeks flush only slightly as wiped away the last of the tears. His reaction made her feel even more the child. "Everyone will be happy to eat a good meal." Her voice soft as she watched what he did. Should she get a fish Dancer didn't want to kill anyone by letting them eat the wrong parts. She waited and watched quietly as Fire Bright munched down the fish tossed his way. Dancer could tell his belly was now content by the lazily way he ate the last few. That made her very happy. She knew he wouldn't try to eat the other bond and get himself killed for it. When Crosscurrent finished she hefted the prepared food up on Fire Bright's back. Looking to her new friend she smiled brightly. "I will be back as soon as I am able with your net." She would bring him the body of his friend as well but it didn't need saying. "I know everyone will be very grateful for your gift from the deep." With that said she hopped on the cats back as well and helped to hold the catch in place and took off. Glancing back she smiled then made her way to the cove. This meal was going to be the best one in a while.

Some of the scavenger birds were already flocking around the undesired fish parts he'd thrown a short distance away: willing to face the threat of the elf for the meal. Crosscurrent didn't stop them. He left the branches still in the water there so Dancer could easily find the spot again. And, since he willing traded his pool haven (easy food, sleeping spot, too many strange elves with predators..) for the sea (food, freedom, uncertain danger) he needed to find another place to rest.

He was already reluctant to watch young Dancer leave. Only her cat-bond made his almost selfish reasons to remain not make him follow her. Fire Bright would protect her from any rowdy elves or their predator friends just fine.

Still, sleeping spot then food gathering places. Crosscurruent had to explore the Vast Deep near here: where Myuadia would bring any help he'd found. It would do no good if he wandered far from where the others might be. The tides might have taken the Wavedancers far from where they'd last been. But he could find a distant place from shore to open-Send in case any tribemates heard him ...

Down to the floor he dove. His legs shifting to the bright reds tail as he did. The pressure of water putting him at ease. He made his way with less speed then he had while hunting to better scout out the area as he went. Here the light blue strands in fair blonde hair blended rather then showed as he swam. The low ponytail still brushed against much of his tail like the seaweed he'd danced among as a child. Green eyes searching even the sands he had only to dip slightly to brush. Above him the surface retreated by lengths even as the shore did.

Travelling such a ways took time. Crosscurrent enjoyed it. The tide must have touched the land once or twice before he finally made an open-Sending. None of the land elves should hear it, but chances were any Wavedancer seeking him would. For a time he only shifted as the ocean did around him as he Sent.

Knowing the sun above was setting he made his way back with less relaxed speed. In fact he shot ahead like a driven dolphin just to feel the joy of mucles as he broke a faster wake before him! A few times he shot straight up to leap the waves only to dive again.

Now and then he paused to drift a short time before dashing off again. Embracing the grace that gave the water elves the name of Wavedancers.
