NO, if anything i think it is underrated because of everyone saying it is overrated, hideo kojima's genius mind is just to great for some, he messes with our minds sometimes but i like that, what do you think?

I think Metal Gear Solid is as good as everyone says it is. Fantastic story with excellent gameplay and memorable characters. If you can't see what's good about it, then you're blind (I don't mean you personally, Ryuk, just... anyone.)

I agree that it's kind of underrated. I can't believe it doesn't get as much hype as Halo or games like that, probably only because Halo is known more for it's online and the such (Not saying Halo is worth the hype), but I think Metal Gear Online looks like it includes some cool elements. Like seeing your teammates through walls with the nano shtuff.

Dude, posting this is like going to The Consumerist and posting something positive about Best Buy.
To expand on this more, I love the series. By far, it is my favorite series of games out there, however, I think that it's absurd to say that it's underrated because people say it's overrated. It's absurd to say that it's underrated at all, we have yet to play MGS4 and it's safe to say that people will complain about it. The game is possibly the most hyped title this year, and that's going against Brawl, and Gears of War 2.
I love the series, but I agree that it is overrated.

It's not as bad as Halo.... that's showed down your throat at every Gamestop, Target, Mall, Wal-MArt, K-Mart, Online, Forums, etc...

It feels like it's shoved in your face 24/7... but if you really think about it, the only ones talking about it are Viking/Blues, and that one guy at E3 who talked about it for a minute or so.
It's not as bad as Halo.... that's showed down your throat at every Gamestop, Target, Mall, Wal-MArt, K-Mart, Online, Forums, etc...I'll agree it's not as overrated as Halo.

It's definitely not underrated, but certainly not as blatantly overrated as let's say, Halo or Zelda or Final Fantasy. And contrary to what some people in this thread have said, it gets enough hype already. In my eyes, Metal Gear has almost crossed the line to being overrated. It's sure as Hell not underrated, but not totally overrated (yet).

I watched Sagitar's little brother play MGS4 yesterday. The gameplay seemed flawless, expect for when Snake was fightign Vamp and they were able to go through each other duyring CQC...
The graphics were so much graphics as they were art. Attention to detail in that game is phenominal!!!!!! The sheer thought and work put into the very bricks that made up the sidewalks and walls were astounding! I'm stunned at how gorgeous everything is in MGS4. I've never seen such fantastic graphics and (realistic) art in a video game before.
And Kojima's tieing everything up pretty well with the plot I think. I'm very much impressed with how he's has been able to answer questions that gamers who've followed the story since the first installment have had.
So, with all that in mind, I really don't think it's overrated. A lot of thought and care went into this series in my opinion. And for that, Kojima has my respect.
EDIT: Also, I found it friggen hilarious how Kojima suttely kept putting down M$ in MGS4. Many an Apple product in the game.
