"Jamie! Come help me put all this food out on the table," called Becca as she saw her son race off to the Karaoke. She didn't mind him having some fun, but they could at least get all the food out on the tables first! At least, the food that didn't need to be grilled. "Jamie!" she called again, slightly louder.
Jamie had heard his mother the first time, but had been reluctant to miss the action. At her second call he sighed and ran at the same pace back, peering over his shoulder as if he were afraid a super show was going on while he wasn't looking.
"Take this bowl and fill it with potato chips, ok?" Becca said, giving him a large bag and a blue plastic bowl. As he did that, popping the bag deftly by yanking his two hands apart, she spred out a white table cloth. From there the two of them put out the non-cookable food items, from salad to cookies.

"D'ya 'ave bananas?" a babyish voice demanded from below the table. His height was irritating to him, but Austin thought of it more as everyone ELSE'S height being the irritating thing. He glared up at the table since it was in his way. "An' fish?"
"You ran off again," Jake, a large black teenager with dreadlocks said as he caught up with Austin. "And why am I the one chasin' you?" he demanded abruptly.
"I'm 'ungry," Austin complained, pointing up at Becca. "She's got food."

Another short-bodied person did a nose dive onto the sand, landing at Austin and Jake's feet. Then the tailed boy pushed himself up, dusted off like it never happened and looked around. There were interesting smells coming from here, after all!
"I heard somethin bout food?" Kaeden asked, looking up at the table. Then he glared at it. It was too big to get up there and see!
Chloe finally managed to catch up with the boys, now that they had stopped. And rather than being in her normal wraps and loincloth, she was in a nice one-piece with shorts on as well. Now, she was a big girl, but she wasn't flabby. Chloe did a lot of work around the hut.... but seriously, who ever heard of a skinny hippo?

"Bananas?" Becca murmured, finding the request odd at a cook-out on the beach. But then, the boy asking was very little; children his age often asked for what they were used to. And bananas she could understand. Fish? Well, he was one of the few young children she had ever met to eat that.
"I think there are some in the fruit saland," she replied, tapping her fingers briefly on the table, "I'll have to check on the fish." She moved away from the table to sor through the boxes that had the different food to be grilled.
Jamie smiled at the younger kids, feeling rather big compared to them, at least the two boys. "There's lots of food," he confided, "And you can have as much as you like."

"Up," Austin demanded of Jake, glaring at Jamie for being taller than him. Jake picked him up, now looking at the spread of food in front of him.
"What, ah... exactly is this?" he asked, being a cook from a very rustic island. He picked up a chip, smelling it for a moment before taking a bite. Then a made a face. "It's salty," he complained, handing it willingly to Austin.
Austin ate it, blinking for a second. "I want another!"

Naomi adjusted the strap of her sundress and shifted Kaimi in her arms. The little girl's eyes were wide, her head turning sharply here and there, nostrils near flaring as she caught her first breaths of salty sea air.
"Down, mommy! Down!" Squirming like an eel, she eventually managed to gain her freedom. Her brightly colored bathing suit required a little adjusting so that it was more comfortable, and she patted at the ruffles, which she adored. All settled, she made a beeline for the food table, wondering what the chances were that there would be candy. Naomi followed behind at a much more sedate pace.

"Hey hey! I want some too!" Kaeden called, then looked at Chloe. Jake's hands were full and he doubted he could get a free lift off of the man right now. "Plleeease Chloe?" the boy asked.
Chloe was looking at the odd food things too. How and where did people pick this kinda stuff from?? But at the plea from Kaeden, she did pick him up to see. And took one of the chips, handing it to the boy to eat. She also took a bite of a chip, and had to agree with Jake. It was far too salty!
Kae liked it though. He was so focused in on the food stuffs that he didn't notice Jamie till just then. "What else is there to eat?" he asked, reaching for another chip. He liked it, whatever it was!

There were a lot of people crowded around the table it seemed to Kaimi. Not wanting to wait for her guardian, she managed to scramble up on a bench seat so that her head was a little above the table level. From her vantage point, she spotted a plate full of cookies and grabbed one greedily, taking a big bite and grinning at the nearest person, who appeared to be a skunk-ish boy in the arms of a big, unusual looking woman. "Hi!" Kaimi chirped at both of them in general.

Kaeden blinked at the girl who had greeted them. Another girl. Girls were, thus far, annoying. They started off with 'hi!' and then went into name calling, if they kept talking to you.
At least, that had been in his limited experience with girls. Except with Rory. But Rory was so focused in on Polly that she didn't become annoying. So, he decided to at least give this another try. (That and Chloe was right here and would probably keep food from him - or something just as horrible - if he wasn't at least a little nice.)
"Hi," he replied. Then he looked at the cookie she hand. "Wazzat?" he asked, pointing at the food item he had never seen.

"S'good! S'cookie!" She broke it in half and held the unbitten half up to Kaeden. There was a whole plate of them, after all... it wouldn't hurt to share. She could get more. "Want some?" She grinned cheerfully, the scent of flowers that always followed her floating on the air. As far as she was concerned, Kaimi liked everyone. So far.

Kaeden would have eaten the cookie half, even if she bit out of it. He didn't know what cooties were, after all. He took the treat from her, having leaned in Chloe's arms to get it. His nose gave a little twitch at the scent of flowers, but he shrugged it off. Food first.
Then he sniffed the cookie. It smelled interesting.... And before Chloe could inspect it first, he bit into it. His blue eyes went huge at the startling sweet flavor. It was so much sweeter than the fruits he was used too. Then he grinned. "Is good!" he replied, grinning at her.
"Another for Austin?" he asked her, holding out a hand, the other hand being busy holding on too ccookie-half. She was closer to the cookies. And with the giving of food, she was now classified as a 'not annoying girl'.

Enthusiastically, Kaimi grabbed another cookie from the plate and handed it on up. Her eyes espied, to her grand delight, a plate of brownies also. So, for good measure, she shoved the rest of her cookie half in her mouth and then took a couple brownies, biting greedily into one and handing one up to Kaeden, too. "M'Kaimi." She said around her mouthful of chocolate. "Who're you?"

"'and it over!" Austin demanded, only to get the cookie stolen by Jake, who took a bite, chewing slowly. Austin grabbed the cookie from him, taking a bite as well. "Oooooohhh...."
"This," Jake said. "This I like. How do you make it?" he asked Becca, reaching to steal the cookie back again. Austin shoved the whole thing in his mouth before he could.

"'M Kaeden!" he told her, then shoved the rest of his cookie half into his mouth, taking the other sweets from her as well. Manners weren't something he specialized in, and Chloe had been lucky to have gotten that 'please' out of him earlier.
After gulping down the cookie, and having the other cookie stolen by Austin, who the cookie was for, anyway, he went to break the brownie in half only to have a corner snitched by Chloe.
It... was sweet! Much sweeter than any fruit or berry she had picked! Yet... she rather liked it! "And that? How do you make that too?" she asked Becca.
Kaeden handed off the brownie half to Austin as well, bitting into his own half. It was far better than a banana!

Austin and Jake wound up fighting over the brownie, accidentally breaking it in half. They looked at that, and promptly ate their own halves. "Ohhh," Jake said. "I really like that."
