Ok, it''s not that bad, but it still sucks what just happened.
Ok, I decided it was time for Costa to get a better face-up because the first one photographed fine but looked pretty bad in real life. So I got to work removing the old faceup and when I got to the lips...
THEY STARTED PEELING OFF!!!!!!!!!
My nail grazed the lower lip while I was trying to clean all of the caked up paint out from between her lips and boom, it took a bit of her lip with it. It''s not a huge thing, just a little came off that I can probably sand so it will match the rest of the lip but I didn''t know aceton would do that. Before I was just using nail polish remover and that was a lot harder to woirk with and I got Acetone and... crying Now I''m too scared to finish her faceup, because I might mess up and have to use Acetone again and I don''t have enough money to send her off to get a face-up.
Be warned, ACETONE IS NOT SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH ON YOUR DOLLS FACE!!!

... D: Is she okay?!
I think I'm going to have Kiriko remove faceups in the off chance that I ever need one removed...

Yes, I finally got back to finishing it, I had to sand part of her lower lip because it was so badly chipped, but when I finished, it looked the same as before. I finished the face-up and hope to have pictures up before the end of the week.
Thanks for caring.

Now here's something I've actually experimented* with! Acetone is like giving your doll an acid bath. This can yield fun results with dolls that you're intentionally trying to disfigure... Non-acetone nail polish remover takes FOREVER, and it doesn't remove all the paint, but it won't hurt their skin. If you can stand the risk of getting high, diluted turpentine might not hurt your doll - but since I've never really tried that on any surface other than bisque, I'd say buy one of those cheap dollar-store "Barbette and Syndy" type dolls just to make sure.

whee I had been thinking about this when I took a class this weekend, the class was resin casting and mold making. I would say that acetone is a BAD idea, since I had clean up duty, the instructor told me to wipe all the tools we used with full strength acetone (nail polish remover has a lot of water in it) because it is a solvent to resin! sad Pretty much if you use it on your doll, your going to change the nature of the surface resin, and if its strong acetone, it can disolve it. sweatdrop Not all resins are acetone solubale, but with out knowing the recipe used for a particular doll, you can not know if it is safe or not.
If you want to use acetone on a doll, I would check the company site, or e-mail them and see if that is a proper solvent to use with out hurting the doll 3nodding Iam sure they would all be willing to tell you what is okay.

What is ok to use for make-up removal? And WHERE did you find a resin casting and mold making class! I've been wanting to learn to make molds properly for a long time now! XD

I've often heard that 99% rubbing alcohol is very gentle and good for removing faceup, and I have heard that acetone is a scary scary thing. I say, go with the alcohol. I've always used it, even for non-doll things. It's so nice. <3

I've had some hella bad experiences with tinted acetone. It actually stained my doll a little purple and I had to sand the entire head lightly to get him the right color again. In fact leave it to me to make the same mistake twice >< Anyway I should try that 99 percent alchohol instead oO

apparently you can email the companies and they will tell you what is ok/best for taking faceups off their dolls, I know someone emailed luts asking if acetone was ok for removing faceups, and they said no, I forgot what they said to use instead-probably rubbing alchohol. I have used acetone on an Angelregion, an old Serendipity, and a Volks head and it never did anything to them, but as pookienoodle said it really depends on the chemical makeup of the resin.
