I watched it and actually thought it was pretty good.
I still like Grease better but it was a fun movie and I enjoyed it.

This caught me early in the opening number with the Waters cameo. I had a really good time. It was truly engaging. I particularly appreciated the sly snarkiness of the lyrics. They boosted the ensemble aspect of the original and intensified the period feel. Mr. Walken was delightful, so was just about everyone else except Mr. Travolta, who for some reason insisted on talking like Zoolander.
It was light. It was fluffy and silly. It also is saying something that needs to be repeated about choices and acceptance. Watching it, it made me sad that for all the promises of the '60's we still live in a world where appearance matters more than ever and where people still get beat up for looking different. It is sad that the messages of the original movie still need repeating because we're not there yet.

Ha! I'm a Musical-Lover too! Go us!!! (lol.) Anyway, I saw Hairspray.... I dunno. It was cute, I guess. Not really my cup of coco (forget tea! forget it!). I grew-up with more...colorful, and uh...interesting Musicals, such as Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera, Oliver!, ect. I also grew-up with the norm, I guess: Muppet Treasure Island (Yes! I love you, Tim! heart ), Labrynth (sp...?), Disney junk. ... -singing- The stars will be our com-pass, Wher-ev-er we may roam!, And our mates will al-ways be, Just like a fa-mil-y, And though we may put into port, The sea is always home!

You win this round, dragontamer...!) completely off topic, but.... ~I'm a sweet transvestite, From Transsexual, Translvania!~ Yeh, isn't growing-up musically great? Everyone else think's your some weird Disney advertisement just 'cause you so HAPPEN to be singing when you walk down the street.... *sigh* Haven't seen "Chicago", did see "Joseph" (wasn't worth the price of addmission, in my opinion). Phantom's worth it...make sure you see the Floyd-Webber musical AND the Lon Chaney black-and-white...Chaney's closer to the book (which was a good read, btw).
