Christian had settled on a name, Rockhard & Easy, and drawn up posters that he placed right where the superhero audition posters had been in the school. The spelling on his posters was a lot better than Wisp's had been, and the writing was a smooth, slanted scrawl that worked well for rock and roll. He was listed as the lead singer, and Jace was listed as the guitarist.
Now he sat at the desk in the gym, waiting patiently for people to show up and volunteer to join his band. He had a cooking magazine, just in case, though.

Jace was slumped out behind him, sitting on the bleachers, playing her guitar just for kicks: also, in her mind, proving to people that they were, in fact, hardcore. She really wasn't bad. When Jace worked at something, she really genuinely worked at something, and she loved the guitar enough to work harder at it than she worked at schoolwork or cleaning her room or being a good person. She was knee-deep in the chords from Blur's "Song #2", which she pronounced not old-school but still friggin' awesome.
"'Rockhard & Easy' is way too long," she said. "We'll have to shorten it to Rockhard or something when we say it normally."

"How bout R.H.E.?" he asked, flipping through the dessert section. "I want to try and make a cake," he added. "This one." He showed her the page of the hugest chocolate cake in history. "And then I'm going to eat it. All. By myself."

"Whatever, fatty," said Jace, switching chords. "We'll have to roll you on stage after that. I don't like chocolate cake, anyway; you can keep it to yourself."
Obviously Jace was the daughter of Satan: not liking chocolate cake was one of the signs. "'R.H.E'," she said, "cool."

"I'm not fat yet," he said, lifting his shirt to show the slight developments of a six pack. "See? I burn off calories in my sleep. That's what mom says, anyway. And she should know, she's a health freak."
Obviously he was getting bored waiting, even though they had just started.

Luckily for Christian's attention span, the sound of running feet heralded the arrival of one who never walked if he could run.
Igancio skidded around the corner and through the door, beaming ear to ear. Then, inexplicably, he darted behind Christian and his table and crouched down. "I'm not here," he whispered. "Okay? Okay, man. Cool. Good."

The noise on the guitar stopped; thankfully, there was a lot of Christian to hide Iggy, even if Iggy had sprouted up to become a teenager. "What the hell, Garcia?" she demanded. "What're you running from? Is Antony trying to kiss you? Tell him you're not ready to go that far." (This was a pure Jace joke.)

"A band?" Whatever Ignacio had been running from was abruptly forgotten as he fell back to land on his backside and grin at Jace and Chris. "Man, that would be cool. Are you a rock band? 'Cause I don't think Jace is into, y'know, harps and violins and things."

"I'm the vocalist. And we're still coming up with songs, so you've got time to learn something," Chris said. He wasn't about to turn a band member down just because they couldn't play!
Especially a guy! At least, a guy that wasn't Antony, that was. He was getting sick of being surrounded by girls.

Jamie couldn't play anything. He wasn't exactly musically refined either; certain notes and styles blurred together for him in his mind. So when he first saw the posters about a band, he didn't think much of it. But after fixing the sound output on RICEE, which had broke when he fell out of a window that morning, he realized that...maybe he could do something anyway. Man, he'd love to mess around with all the speakers and stuff that made the sound...well, work.
So he hopped off down to where the band auditions were supposed to be. He peeked in the doorway, his hair visible long before his face was, "Hello?"

Jace set her guitar down and looked at Jamie: he looked vaguely familiar, in some way that she couldn't quite recall, but she flipped up a hand in cool hello as she leant back on the bleachers. "'Sup," she said. "Nice hair."
It was only vague sarcasm: that was classical rock hair, right about there.

"I play sports" came the non sequitor answer from Ignacio before he bounced to his feet and grinned toothily at the new arrival. "Hey! Hi, there. Are you in their band, too?"
