Anime/manga series in your opinion? For me, it has to be original, have lots of action, a good plot line, makes you think, has well developed characters, and personally, I'm a sucker for historical settings <3 (or assassins,samurai, ect...)
...that's probably why I like Death Note and Kenshin so much...they are both original (especially Death Note, its the only thing that doesn't have hand-to-hand combat and I actually enjoyed it!)....Kenshin has a lot of action, and Death Note kept me interested and made me think A LOT....
plus both had really awesome characters ^-^

I like Anime that has original characters and plots. I hate when anime series have almost the same boring plot or the characters have no personality or there personality is the same personality that all characters have. (for example:"have to be the best of them all!"which would be Naruto and "Emo cool guy" which would be Saskue) I also like mecha anime, especially ones with unique robots that sometimes have a mind of there own like: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Big O, Eureka 7, and G Gundam.

To be a good anime or manga for me it has to have a few things. The storyline has to be good. Some plot twists, a good villian or two, action, and a good love relationship. Eureka 7 is a great example of this. Another would be full metal panic. Or Blue Gender as well. I like a wide range of characters to there as well. You got to have a hero, love interest, comic relief, and someone that you can hate. DNAngel has all those. You have the hero Daisuke, then the love interest riku. The comic relief and side hero is dark. Then krad is the villian. But those elements are what make anime and manga good for me.

Basilisk is good on all you have described as well.In the manga it continues with the prequel called The Yaguya Scrolls. The name is spelled wrong but great series none the less. Basilisk has about 5 volumes and The prequel is on volume 3.Check it out.

For me, I would have to say good character development, and solid plot.
It doesn't matter to me whether or not it has good art , unique characters, action, love interest etc. Without good character development and a good solid plot with no plot wholes the whole story would basically fall apart. If you have plot holes the story will start to lose its value, and with no character development you can say hello to a repetitive story with no changes.

What you just decribed sounds like Naruto. All the charaters have basically the same attitude and plot used over and over again only with small difrences.
I think Death Note is a prime example of an anime that has a completely unique plot and set of characters. It may not have a ton of fighting and action like other animes but it's story and characters are so interesting and unique that you can't stop watching until you've see the whole series!

I would have to say any good anime/manga would HAVE to have a really catchy story line and something very unpredictable. I love the twists and turns in Death Note! AWESOME!! and I also like the story of Rave Master.

Everyone seems to think that Death Note has all the qualities of a good Anime/Manga. It's so diffrent compared to all the other Anime out there.

yeah...you have a point, plot holes DO suck....
and I offically declare that Death Note is the GOD of all anime/manga...cause it has everything!!! (not to mention that its like my all-time favorite!)
another thing I personally like in anime/manga is when the plot doesn't drag on forever....like how it took forever for them to find Rukia in bleach...it just makes me lose interest....XP
