Old Silverback made his way into a large, secluded cave near a stream, carefully lowering his eyes so reflections of the crystals in the cave didn't blind him. He had found this particular cave when he saw a flash of light from the reflections. Egg shards and the faint sense of magic attested to its use as a hatching cave. Towards the back was a natural depression where the eggs he'd gathered were clustered. The few deer he'd brought down were laid out carefully not far from the eggs, so the hatchlings could go the short distance to their first meal. The youngsters who had not chosen to go their own way would provide for this nest.

Khala followed Old Silverback into the cave, noting how he ducked his head. Curious, she cocked her head, and was almost blinded by the reflection of the sun off the surface of the crystals. Wincing, she ducked her head and slitted her eyes. Once inside, she opened her eyes and saw some dead deer and a nest of eggs. {Do you know how soon, Grandfather--?}

Achat ducked carefully under the crystals. He automatically took count of the eggs, but no red and gold one showed up. Disappointed, he instead glanced at the crystals all around.

Jabari was following behind Achat and did as he saw the others do and ducked his head as he entered the cave. Though he noticed the nest of eggs and the deer as well, what held the young dragons attention more then anything was the crystals that hung from the ceiling and walls. With a loping stride he made his way over to one of the walls and rearing onto his hind legs he first sniffed the crystal and then licked it as well. Sticking out his tongue in distaste, it tasted like dirt...salty dirt.

{What do you think?} Achat asked the blue-and-yellow male. {Looks like quartz...or possibly halite. Sylvite, maybe? Salt, that is.} He glanced at the deer in the cave. {Do you think that will be enough, Silverback, or should we go hunting for some more?}

Jabari looked over at the new dragon that was talking to him and then back at the crystal that he had just previously licked in curiosity. He had no idea what he was talking about or what the crystals were, he had never seen anything like it in his entire life. Jabari thought for a second before he then decided to actually talk to the other dragon despite his problems with speaking. {I..I..I... doooon....do...dooon'tt kkknnn.....kno..w....} A simple answer for a simple question, though really the other had not really asked of him what the crystals could be but he felt the need to give an answer anyway before going about his way of doing a little exploring of their new little cave home.

{Me, neither,} Achat agreed, ignoring the youngster's stutter. It would only make him uncomfortable or upset if he mentioned it. He padded away over to Khala. {What's his name?} he asked.

{His name's--} she paused as she heard an egg shifting. Whirling around, she saw an egg rocking violently back and forth. She leaped to the food, snatched up a mouthful of deer and hurried over to the rocking egg, a lovely pale blue-green with even paler spots.
The little one inside the egg began waking up to the sense of a burning inside her. Increasingly uncomfortable as she contemplated her situation, she struggled to get out. Finally, her prison cracked, and she was nearly blinded by something bright. Snapping her eyes shut to shut out the painful light, she continued struggling to get out of her prison so she could get away from the pain.
Khala bent down to gaze at the new arrival. {You can open your eyes now, little one. I have something for you.}
The hatchling slowly opened her eyes to gaze into the light blue eyes of another dragon. {Mommy?} she asked hesitantly.
Khala paused. {Not really your mommy, but I'll act as your mommy if you'd like.}
The hatchling nodded and took the proferred stuff from the older dragon and started to eat it. It tasted so good!
{I'm Khala. What I gave you is food, meat in particular. What's your name?}
{My name is...my name is...} she paused, gathering the name and lining up the syllables before answering. {Aquamarine,} she finally said.
{That is a wonderful name, little Aquamarine.} Khala turned back to Achat. {The male's name is Jabari.}

{Thanks,} Achat replied. He began to tear up strips of deer for the little dragons once they hatched. He sighed. {I wish I'd had the oppurtunity to watch a hatching before,} he said wistfully. {Ah well...you can't hide forever, dear one...} Achat slipped off into a stream of mutters and murmurs.

Sitting in the nest, there was a red egg that had black spots, it looked like a lady bug. It stood still not giving any indication that it was ready to hatch, the little hatchling inside was rather content at the moment to stay where she was. But with such commotion going on outside, her curiosity was quickly getting to better of her, to the point that she was even getting impatient with herself. Suddenly the egg started to move slight back and forth. It wouldn't be long now.

Achat turned to gaze at a crimson-and-black egg that was rocking back and forth violently. He hurriedly tore up some more pieces of meat and gave them a few preliminary chews.

Suddenly from the bottom of the egg, two little feet burst through the hard shell. It tried to stand up and wobbled a bit on its hind legs before she fell over backwards and rolled a little on the floor. Before finally coming to a stop and the shell broke open with the young dragon of black, red and yellow coloration laying in the remnants of its black and red shell. She giggled as she rocked herself back and forth in a large piece of shell playfully, not really noticing the other dragons quite yet.

Achat padded over to her and gave her a piece of meat. {Welcome to the world, little one,} he said wistfully. {Here, have something to eat. We call it (meat). Try it, it tastes good.}

For the first time Asima noticed the other dragon above her head and took the meat from him. She ate a little bit but wasn't as hungry as you would expect a young dragon to be and left a chunk of meat in her little shell chair as she got up on all fours and began to look around. There was just so much to take in. To see, to taste, to touch and to smell. The crystals that covered the walls were such a big distraction that the little red dragon found herself staring up at them and they seemed to stare back as they glinted and sparkled in her young eyes.
The wee dragon then turned to the one that had given her the food and then pointed at the cave ceiling. {What is that?}

{They're crystals. I'm not sure what they are or how they got here, but they appear to be different from normal stalactites. Those are formations of water droplets that fall from the ceiling leaving minerals behind.} Achat smiled. {I'm a font of useless information, aren't I?} He paused. {What's your name, little one?} he asked.
