Chapter 1: The Road of Rogue

Dawn struck the city of Miyr as it always had, coming over the mountains to the east like a golden coin. From the moment it arose it wasn't long till the bustle from the street began to arise. Ever since word spread of the towns unique history and rich profiting in regards to adventurers and their pastime, people flocked from everywhere just to get a trickle of action. In a way it showed the strength of this land as a whole, able to rally behind the desire to meet and defeat challenges unknown. Talos was not nearly as foolhardy as these sheep. He knew very well the statistics behind all of the adventuring losses as well as the gains. Not to mention he had grown used to the towns more shady avenues and abused his knowledge well. Recently though the rumor mill had dried up leaving him to wonder what might have been eluding him these past weeks and how important it was. Irritated he began fidgeting with his new arm trying to distract himself. In the street before him children ran wildly between passersby, before colliding with a plump fat man wearing a modest silk shirt, typical garb for what would be a warm summer day. To an untrained eye this would all seem inconsequential, but Talos picked up on the quick hand movements of the child during the collision and noted the pint sized thieves for future contact.

"Amateurs..." He mused standing upright and brushing off his cloak. His dark hair blew gently into his eyes presenting his second annoyance of the day. He wore dark leather armor beneath his cloak which had many notches for poisons, daggers and notes. along with a dark leather bag closed by a drawstring and tucked safely away on his back. Talos barely had time to utter a goblin curse of unknown meaning before he was lifted into the air by his neck. A huge hand clasping around his throat gave him the only bits of his assailant he could visually see and thus the disadvantage. Talos's shadow moved helplessly on the ground beneath him, ever like a dog at a masters heels.

"If your so much better than these children I'd like to see some proof, No don't talk just listen heh heh. Their is an Item we would like you to collect for us, and seeing as how your so knowledgeable we will give you one week to do so. Find for us the Chain of Bael and we wont stop you from collecting anything of interest you happen to find close by while doing so."

Dropping Talos roughly to the ground did little to help his already spinning head and massive migraine. A few seconds longer and he would have been knocked out cold. The dark figure threw a scroll at his feet and with a parting wave seemed to disappear from sight. His shadow had returned to its proper place as Talos bent over the scroll. The scroll had text and a map pointing to a swamp covered tomb toward the end of the peninsula. underneath the map written in blood was the word death. pausing for a moment he thought carefully about this strange encounter before standing up and walking casually toward the tavern.

"It's about time I got some good news"

Chapter 2: Powers Price

So many fools, its almost like shopping. Talos thought as he sipped his drink in the taverns commons, the only area of the tavern sporting the record for reconstruction, at least three times but he had been wrong before. Lots of folks gathered here, from the pint size mages to the massive swordsman. All smelling of drink and oozing of stories. None of which Talos particularly wanted to hear. With a wink toward the waitress he began scouting faces. He needed those who were rough and tumble ready to do anything to get whats his, and unfortunately for him he needed them for cheap. he finally spotted a winner, a burly sort of fellow with a dark sword strapped to his back, it seemed like words whispered on the wind, but he swore the blade screamed, Wield Me! At once taking a liking to the gentlemen he took a seat across from him but seemed to go unnoticed, which wasn't uncommon when one is a master of shadows. "Excuse me sir, you seem like the kind of pawn, I the great Talos Kintsei need, would perchance you be looking for work? The pay is s**t and the hazards are tough, but maybe, and I mean maybe you just may win enough of my favor to earn some fantastic loot." Sitting back and feeling confident about his story Talos waited for the obviously slow fellow to respond.

"The name's Vincent." He says as he half-turns to face Talos, "And I don't do the pawn thing. However...I may be interested in helping you. Mercenary work is something I'm accustomed to. How's this: my fair share of the loot and you get first dibs? Of course...first you have to tell me what exactly I'm getting myself into." Vincent faces back to his drink (a simple honey and tea) but looks out of the corner of his eye at Talos once more as if waiting for an answer.

"Well I would say that it was easy, if I knew exactly what we were looking for, but alas all I have is this map and an area of submerged ruins that resurfaces once a year, do to pressure beneath the marshland." Spinning the map on his grotesque doll hand Talos smirks before setting it in front of Vincent. "Ill even let you hold onto it if you promise to find me a party of daring fools such as yourself. Though I must say you drive a hard bargain my friend..."

Vincent lets out a subdued yet hearty laugh before taking the map from Talos. "I've been on the outskirts of these lands. I can get you there with a lot less trouble than the map gives you. But as soon as we enter the marshes I can't help you except with my sword. And I think I know a few willing participants that you could look into. Try to find these people:" Vincent begins to scratch down a few names on a piece of paper he acquired from the tavernmaster. The names are listed as:

Eryka Deathfold, aka-Mistress Vindicator
Zypherius Ixion
Anasii Valentine

((Most of them should be willing to help you if only for the purpose of something extra to do. Plus this is fun mrgreen ))

"Hmm, your an interesting person indeed to associate with these types, I wonder just what sort of path you walk..." Eyeing the list one more time he sighed it couldn't be helped, he'd probably have to bribe every last one. "You realize though if they kill me the deal is off right?" with that he took an angry look at his shadow which seemed remarkably smug and walked out of the tavern in search of the first name on the list.

((Eryka if you want to make an entrance you can, else I'll come up with a creative reason why you wont go. oh and I'll give you three weeks to get back to me on it.))
