Before I start let me just say a couple of details, that will become important to my experiences in a moment.

When I was two one of my uncles moved up north and unfortunately couldn't take his cat up with him; so my parents offered to take the cat off his hands. The newly named Whisky lived with us until he sadly had to be put down shortly before my eighteenth birhtday. As cliched (and corny) as it sounds he wasn't a pet to us, he was part of the family. A couple of years later we decided we missed having a cat around the house and so 'adopted' two from an RSPCA shelter.

Now it's hard to say exactly when my experiences first started but it's definately within the last two or three years.

It started with me seeing a small shadow or movement out of the corner of my eye. It was usually so quick that it was easy to dismiss as a trick of the light, or even just being too tired. But as time has gone on these shadows have taken on a definate cat shape, and have seemed more like a silhoutte. I've been convinced on a number of occasions that one of our cats have walked by my door and when I've gone to look seen nothing; usually they're not even in the house. There have been a couple of times when I've heard a cat bell ringing or the very clear sound of a cat jumping off a windowsill, and again, neither of our cats have been in the house.

However the best experience has to go to my mum. A couple of weeks ago she woke up in the middle of the night to a weight on her legs and the sound of loud purring. She realised that she'd left the bedroom door open and, deciding that whoever had come in was behaving themselves, went back to sleep. It was only in the morning that she realised that while she'd left the bedroom door open, the downstairs hall door was closed so no-one could get upstairs. Both of our cats were behind it waiting to be let in.

wow, that's definitely your cat, I don't know why he didn't leave though
did you bury him, made a grave gave him flowers and etc?
If you did, then maybe he just missed your family?

Sadly we couldn't bury him. None of us could bear the thought of leaving him behind when we moved house (although we're still living here) and we were going to have him cremated but the vets couldn't guarantee we'd acually get his ashes, rather than some other pets.

I wish my cat hung around, but then again, baybe its a good thing shes left.

I hate to say, this rings a bell a bit to close for comfort though. Just last week or so my dad and my brother were downstairs watching tv and dad said he saw a little dog (or a cat, it was a fleating thing) walk into the office and heard a jingle of tags. Bolth the dogs were on the couch with him, so he went to look, and there wasnt anything there. So he asked my brother about the cat, and my brother had just let him out, and sure enough, he was waiting at the door to come in.

So our family has decided we have a dhost, or a ghost dog. biggrin Little corny, but yeah. Ghost pets arnt somehting thats entirely rare in what Ive heard. *shrug*

I'm glad to hear it's not just me this happens to! I'd be interested to hear, did you have any dogs previously that passed away?

I'm sure he was here the other day as well. My cat Loki was sitting on my desk when all of a sudden he stood up and looked very intently at a patch by the door. I though he could see our other cat (who's a bit of a bully to be honest sweatdrop ) and actually looked to try and see him...only to realise that no-one and nothing was there. When I looked back at Loki he was getting very agitated (tail lashing around, tensing up) before he calmly (but quickly!) trotted out of the room avoiding the area he'd been watching.

I haven't had a pet of mine pass away that's come back, but a friend of mines had. Her dog, Duke (a 13 year old Yellow Lab) had to be put down. He had a tumor removed, but the incision sight wouldn't stop bleeding because his blood wouldn't clot... A few days later i was sleeping over there. They have all wood floors. In the middle of the night, we heard what sounded like paws on the wood floors... we opened the door, and it came closer. Then we heard "clack, clack, clack, Umph." Her dog always slept in her room, and always mad an "Umph" sound when he laid down. Sometimes on hot days, they hear panting. But everynight before she goes to bead she hears that "clack, clack, clack, Umph." Needless to say, they don't think Duke ever really left.

My mom had seen my old cat (bonkers) on Halloween before. My dad thinks it's a ghost but I think he's still alive. She could feel him and she got to pick Bonkers up.
