Time had seemed to pass, well enough for the mud to dry up and blow away from their small pits and wallows to fill with grass and flowers of many colors, many of them blue, pink and purple. It seemed like days since the ebony and pastel stallion had begged a friend to play with him in the muds of the spring rains, but the rains had come only in small showers now and didn't leave much but small puddles. Hardly anything worth splashing in, still on this day the skies were crystal clear and the sun shinning warmly down upon the earth. Butterflies and bees buzzed and fluttered about at the flowers minding their own business. Still the stallion couldn't stop thinking about the dusty colored mare he had 'played' with.
He wondered how she was, and if she ever did find a flower to replace the one she had lost. Shaking his head and letting his cotton candy colored mane wave to and fro across his ebony neck slightly he looked back toward the skies. Wishing for at least a small rain cloud to come and shower down upon him, but that was clearly wishful thinking as he watched a couple blue birds flutter past him. Letting his own wings open at his sides, he took a pace or two forward before kicking off the ground and headed higher up looking to at least enjoy the beautiful day.
"I wonder how Dusty is." He muttered to himself as he dipped a wing tip into a warm current and turned slightly off toward where he had last seen her. "Maybe she will have found a... what was it again? Blue orchid?" He closed his eyes for a moment to think though barely noticed that he had dipped low while thinking. "Maybe." He finally concluded opening his eyes and raised higher again, soaring over the ground, keeping an eye out of a bit of brown and white swirl below, he knew who he was looking for even if he didn't want to admit his 'affections' openly...

A lot had changed for Dusty Trails since she'd last seen her friend. She'd had three children, who were already grown with a stallion she barely even knew, made a few friends, and stayed occupied by helping her 'aunt' Midori take care of two pesky little foals. But a few things remained the same. She was still crazy for attention, still thought of Eton as her best friend, and she was still missing her flower.
The mare roamed quietly through the newly blooming flowers, attempting to find something that could replace her missing orchid. But alas, there wasn't anything nearly as pretty as her, and there was nothing that matched her other flowers. It would be certain death and humiliation to have mis-matched flowers in her hair.
Her mind began to wander, when a shadow passed her overhead. Looking up to the shadow of a winged Soquili, she grinned. It was hard to tell who it was from the silhouette, but she had a pretty good idea. "I wonder if he even noticed me. Probably not." She sighed at the thought of not being noticed, and went back to looking for a new flower.

Turning in a half circle he looked toward the ground, letting his head dip some and his whole persona fell a few inches. Pastel eyes searched the ground for anything that stood out. Dipping down again he noticed the one he was searching for, Dusty Trails, though not exactly watching where he was going he ran into a tree and crashed down through the branches. Wings flailing at his sides slightly and knocking against truck and tree alike he came to a halt sprawled out upon the ground. Oh that hurt and he would feel it tomorrow... That was for sure.
not moving from where he laid, he hadn't really made a sound besides the yelp from the first impact against the tree itself. dazed slightly he laid there a couple branches laid flat and slightly splintered beneath his belly. His wings laid half folded against his sides and a spray of feathers fell like snow to the ground, some getting caught in the leaves over head. Eton could only hope that no one saw him, much less Dusty, he was certainly going to be laughed at for this, what kind of excuse could he have given? He hadn't any idea.
"Oh that hurt." He groaned slowly moving to drag his quivering body from the ground. "I will feel that one tomorrow." Shaking his head he looked over to where he had seen the dusty colored mare though at the moment there seemed to be two of everything, oh this was the start of a great meeting... Just great...

Dusty hadn't completely stopped watching Eton. She could still see him in the corner of her eye, and was startled when she heard the breaking of branches. The mare's head rapidly twisted around to see what had happened. At first she gasped, but then she had to stifle a laugh. "Well I guess he did notice me."
Quickly, she went to his aid. "Are you alright? That was quite a nasty fall." Her eyes were filled with concern, and she nudged him gently. "No broken bones or torn muscles, I hope."
She inspected him as he stood, making sure he wasn't bleeding anywhere. A little nudge here and there would surely let her know if he was hurt. Once finished, she nuzzled his cheek in a slightly more than friendly manner, shaking her head. "Don't scare me like that. It's not nice."

The world still spun as the mare or was it mares? came over toward him, stagging backwards a little to lean against the very tree he had collided with and closed his eyes trying to get the spinning in his head to stop. He flinched as she poked him here and there, though he had mainly bruises and a lot of missing feathers at the moment, but they would regrow and be more glossy then the ones he had lost.
"Yea I'm alright Dusty. Just a little bruised here and there, but nothing that won't go away in time." He grinned as his head was slowly coming to a halt and there was only one mare standing near him.
Though he had to chuckle at him scaring her when he crashed into the tree, truthfully, he had scared himself. "Sorry about that. I swear it jumped up before me, like a strange serpent looking to strike down upon you and well.. I thwarted it's plans." He chuckled again thinking of what the 'serpent' would look like.
He blinked as Dusty had nuzzled against him in more then just the common friendly way. He watched her for a moment before he found himself moving closer to her and nuzzling back burring his face into her mane for a moment before pulling away, looking her over, noting that still she was short a flower.
"Still missing an orchid? Should they be blooming this time somewhere you think?" he asked trying to think where he had seen mass amounts of flowers, but he couldn't remember exactly. He'd seen many flowers, but not ones like hers... Well not the same color anyways...

She couldn't help but giggle at the thought of the tree being a serpant. "I see. Well I guess that makes you my hero, saving me from the big bad tree. However shall I repay you?"
Though she thought as him as somewhat childish, Dusty envied Eton's imagination. Life would be so much easier if she could go through it thinking of trees as serpants, flowers singing pleasant tunes, and things of the like. How much more fun she could have. Then again, she'd seem like a little filly, and who would want to pay attention to a mare who acts like that, regardless of how beautiful she was?
Her thoughts were interrupted when he nuzzled her back. Quickly, her face began to warm with a soft pink blush. She was grateful when he spoke. "I tried to find it, but couldn't. Even if there are some out, I wouldn't know where to find them."

The whole, 'my hero' bit made Eton puff out his chest as if he was some large hero, his wings fluffing out at his sides. Eyes closing for a moment he opened them again letting the whole thought vanish as things turned to the flowers. A thought struck him that made him silently chuckle with glee that maybe, just maybe they could go on a quest? Yes, yes a quest.
"Then let the hunt for the elusive blue orchid begin." He beamed, "Let no beast or peasant stand in our paths as we quest for the flower that will bring much beauty for one so fair."
Really big talk for a coltish minded stallion as before his eyes he didn't see their home land but another. One filled with Dragons, knights and honor. Sure in someways home had those things, but they were very far and few between that he had come to know. Looking toward the mountains he could see a large white castle with huge towers and bright flags blowing in the winds.
"Maybe yonder castle will know of where we can find what we seek." He assisted looking back to Dusty whom was still herself in his minds eye, but now wore a flowing blue gown that matched her eyes and a crown of flowers atop her head, though the center above her eyes was empty. "But no quest is without its dangers, but I shall slay any beast of foul that would dare do harm." He nodded stomping a pastel hoof.
To Eton, he was not dressed in a flexible armor of sorts. A leather head piece covered his ears atop it a pastel lavender feather, down his back a simple cloth with a strange coat of arms maybe, but the image wasn't very made up. A flower with an arrow through it maybe, he never really put much thought into the details. But he though it could work... Stepping forward he scouted the area before looking back toward Dusty.
"Shall we M'Lady?" he asked before looking back toward the mountains, that to any normal Soquili would just be plain ordinary mountains with a rocky point.

She couldn't help but laugh, but nodded. "Alright. The hunt for the elusive blue orchid. I like it." Her blue eyes scanned the area, wishing they could see what her companion's saw. Alas, all they saw was the same old Soquili lands. Beautiful plants in full bloom that hadn't changed a bit since she'd last seen them, tall, bold mountains, which had also not changed, and her silly, yet cute and loveable friend Eton. Also unchanged.
When he mentioned a castle, Dusty raised a brow. She didn't see a castle, nor did she know what a castle was. When growing up, her caregiver hadn't told her fairytales. Nothing about princesses and castles, or knights and dragons. This subject was new to her. Not really wanting to look stupid, she sighed, but wanted to know enough to ask. "Uh... What's a castle?"

Eton looked toward Dusty and tilted his head to one side a little. She didn't know what a castle was? He had always thought that everyone knew what a castle was, that everyone liked the stories of made up places. Looking back toward the mountains, true in the reality they were just that mountains. He could see them as both reality and in his imaginings. Turning slightly toward Dusty he tries to think of how to explain what a Castle was.
"Em.. It's larger then any two legged's teepee, made of anything hard like stones. Many rooms and really high tower like things and larges walls too. Also there's always a moat surrounding the castle." He tried closing a single eyes in the thought process. "There are also large pieces of cloth flapping from branchless trees on the tops of the tower things."
Oh he was bad at explaining what he meant, looking to the ground a little he looked for a clear patch of dirt. Finding one he scratched something into the dirt that looked roughly like a castle. It was very sketchy, With it's larges wall and strange 'door in the front with tower like constructs on the sides and one larger one in the very middle of the place. Flag like things were stuck to the tops of poles.
Stepping back away from the drawing on the ground, shaking what dirt had gotten onto the hoof away. Eying the drawing for a moment he looked back toward Dusty, a grin on his face.
"That be what a castle looks like" He nodded quite proud of his dirt drawing, even if it would be wiped away by something sooner or later, rain more then likely. But at last it was something. "And there is where the castle stands now." He looked back toward the white peaked mountains.

The explanation only confused the mare more. With the picture, she began to understand. "I think I get it... But it couldn't be made out of little stones, could it? Because they wouldn't stay together. Unless they put mud or something in between them. And if they use big stones, wouldn't they have to be square or rectangle to say on top of each other? How would the make the round ones on the side?" At noticing her rambling, Dusty stopped speaking. "Sorry. I'm just curious. It doesn't seem very logical."
I'm probably spoiling his fun. Maybe I should just go along with everything like I know what it is. She sighed at this thought. If she did that, she'd probably end up looking like an idiot by saying something that made absolutely no sense. There was no way out of asking questions. Great.

He had to scratch his head at that question. In truth he didn't know himself really, head tilting to one side he looked back toward his drawing before looking to the mountains. He to be honestly didn't know, no one had really old him in detail what they really looked like. The image fading for the moment he looked at Dusty shrugging lightly.
"That's a good question. I don't have the answers for it." He stated looking a little distant. "I guess we will have to find out when we get there." he nodded as the image came back and once more Dusty was dressed in a gown with an incomplete 'crown' on her head. "Shall the quest begin? I don't think Lady fair wishes her crown to be incomplete forever." He gave a gentle smile nudging Dusty a little, playfully. He would never grow out of his silliness, and what kind of life could it bring him to? ... That has yet to be seen...

Though she was still curious, Dusty dropped it and became more interested in where they were going. "When we get there? Surely it's not a long walk away. I don't think my short little legs could go too awfully far." She was average height, but she liked to believe otherwise.
A small giggle escaped her throat when he mentioned an incomplete crown. "A crown? Really? Well I suppose I wouldn't want that, now would I?" It was the first time in quite a while that she'd felt like a child. Keeping secrets and going on adventures. Being as proud as she was of her maturity, she'd never admit it.

Eton gave a nod before looking back toward the mountains, though he lifted a wing for a moment and it looked like he was going to clean his feathers. What a time to do that! Surely it could have waited until they were done with this quest right? Folding the wing back to his side he turned holding what looked like a sort of 'crown' that was missing a flower in the front.
Stepping forward he carefully placed the crudely made crown upon Dusty's head, the flowers being of blue and purple. The ones that grew around his home, though he had to take them to his father's human to get them together right. Having not hands sucked sometimes and his teeth ruined more flowers then he wanted. Backing away he looked at Dusty with the flowers upon her head.
"There my Fair Maiden, a crown." He smiled, eyes closing with glee that it looked quite pretty on her.
True the flowers didn't match her eyes or the others in her hair, but they complimented them. Wings fluffing out a little, one would have to wonder how he could fly with such a thing tucked into his feathers and not lose it. In truth there had been a small strand of string holding it in place until he chose to tug it free.
"And if you get tired, I can carry you." Eton nodded, knowing well that he might not have been able to do that. "I don't know how long this quest will be, but I'm sure we can find good places to rest when we need to." He nodded reassuringly.

Dusty only caught a glimpse of the crown before it was placed atop her head. In a silly display, she tried to look up at it, succeeding only in giving herself a headache. "Well, how do I look?" She struck a pose, fluttering her eyelashes and smiling softly, which only caused her to burst out laughing. Instead she tried a bashful look, pawing at the ground and lowering her head, looking up slightly. More laughing. Usually, she could pull any type of look off to get attention, but for some reason it was hard to around Eton.
"Carry me, huh? I think I'll stick to walking." At the thought of being away for a while made her smile, for dealing with what she saw as two pesky foals and a grumpy old mare was much worse than going on a silly 'quest' with her best friend.

He had been trying to keep a straight face, but Eton too broke into laughter as his friend did after striking her pose. He didn't know why, but he liked her more then just your common friend, best friend was at least the feeling, but there was something more within it. Shaking his head he slowly stopped laughing.
"You look like a princess." He admitted nodding, "One who deserves to look her best all the time." Ok that was adding to the ego, but he meant every word of it.
Turning back toward the path that they were going to take, he looked around before taking a couple steps further a head. Again stopping and looking around as it inspecting something, before looking back toward Dusty, waiting for her to come to his side and the quest would begin. Ears ever alert, one could never know of the dangers that could be lurking within the darkest shadows and he was always hoping to do something heroic, really heroic for Dusty...
