I remember seeing this show, I believe it was called 'More Than Human' or 'Superhuman' and they got this guy who had some sort of disorder than ended up being a blessing for him and he learned Icelandic in 5 days then went on National TV in Iceland and did an interview in perfect Icelandic.
Besides watching that show, I know of a few bands from Iceland [or formerly from Iceland]..so that's all the exposure I've had to the language, besides the bilingual copies of the Icelandic Sagas I've come across.

My best friend is from Iceland and I was up there with him summer last year. I met his family and stuff. It was so much fun. I learned a few sentences I needed to keep his cousin from annoying me... It was really fun though. I developed a crush on his cousin too <.<
We went to see a lot of the stuff in Iceland. I loved the mountains. I have a picture somewhere where you can see the sheeps walking around freely on the sides of the hills and stuff. Really awesome... Hard language, though. The have several weird pronouncations (sp?). There's the weird 'd'-looking letter sounding like the 'th' in english, the ways some letters, when placed ext to each other is pronounced...
Take the river/waterfall Gullfoss. The two 'll's has to be pronounced as an 'ld' sound for it to be correct.

Swedish had ðese sounds too, but ðey took ðem away, dunno why. >.> Anyway, I hope I'll get to learn íslendsku sometime. 3nodding

It's easier to find books in Icelandic than in Swedish here. o.O Considering we have a Swedish camp and an Icelandic camp both nearby, I think this is unfair (of course, the only reason I can find Icelandic books is because my university offers a Major in Icelandic)
The one and only book I did find in Swedish was about the Icelandic sagas XD

Oddly enough, I can understand a whole lot of spoken Icelandic... I don't know how. I don't know why. I only know that I can. Why couldn't it have been a more useful language, like Spanish?

Eccentric Iconoclast Oddly enough, I can understand a whole lot of spoken Icelandic... I don't know how. I don't know why. I only know that I can. Why couldn't it have been a more useful language, like Spanish? The country's population totals only 296,000. Meaning not too many people care about it - which they should. It's a beautiful language.
