The waves were an amazing thing, just as the ocean was an amazing thing. From the salty waters to the great creatures that inhabited it, all the way down to the sounds that it made through the air. The sounds that often sounded like howls.

Except that the howls belonged to something entirely different from the waves right now.

A large black and red juvenile with a white face sat on his hind legs, butt planted in the sand and front paws flailing about. Somehow in the trials of the day, Isitini had managed to get a crab, yes a crab, stuck on BOTH of his front paws. No matter how hard he shook his paws, how much he banged it against the sand, a shell, a rock, or tried to put it in the water itself, the crab just refused to let go of his paws!

Howling once more, he banged the be-shelled thing as hard as he could against a rock.

It didn't budge. It didn't even seem to care that it was being knocked about. All that occured to the crab was that it needed to hang on, needed to stick it's large claws through Isi's paws. It was almost succeeding as well, blood welled up on either side of it's pinschers.

The tears that welled in Isitini's eyes dried instantly as he thought of how Vuai would deal with this crab. He'd just find some way to get it off all by himself. He'd never howl, he'd never cry. In fact his brother would probably just sit there and let it cling onto him.

Isitini wasn't as brave as his brother, but he wasn't a fool either. He wanted it off!

His body was black as the ace of spades bar for that pale streak that ran up his face and over his nose. It was never really hard to spot him, his form larger than most, he would probably be seen as frightening, forebodeing even, that was of course until you got close to him and looked in to those coal black orbs. They smiled, constantly happy his lips turned in to a gentle loveing grin always.

Nahodha'kota had not been born upon the shores having lived out his youth in the loving embrace of the pridelands, he had left those lands though in search of a world he didn't know but needed to see.

The world of waves and sand. Once he had arrived at the waters edge he had never been able to leave and now his world was quite complete. With his blood red mate at his site and two boys, his sons, to train and care for, the big male had found his life settling and he couldn't have been happier.

Of course upon hearing a cry the big male had belted down the beach fearing something was being attacked. Despite his gentle nature,t he big black male knew how to fight and his size could scare off most everything.

Speeding around the rocks 'kota stopped and his face broke in to a grin, a gentle chuckle rolled off his lips and he slowly padded over to his youngest son. "Sit ye still lad, ye be doin no good a fidgetin." He smiled at his boy and lifted a paw to ruffle the thick fur that would one day become his mane. "Calm down now, shakin it only makes it worse. Guess this is somethin I shoulda taught ye a donkeys age ago hmm?" He raised a brow at his child and lay down putting a gentle, though very large paw over each crab. "nah jus stay nice an' still an' they'll think it's safe an let go alrigh?"

Tears welled up once more in his deep black eyes as his father rounded the bend and got the opportunity to see Isitini's misfortune. He was shaming his father, who's mark he bore across his nose and face. What was he going to do if his father wasn't happy with his shoddy knowledge of how to get a single crab to reliquish both of his paws?

In fact, his father would probably ask how in the WORLD, Isi had managed to get the crab to grab both of his paws in either of it's large claws. Isitini sure as sand didn't know quite how he'd managed to. All he knew was that he was playing a game of 'Leap from Crab to Crab' and had managed to get one of the rotten things stuck to him!

Usually he was faster.

Attempting to staunch the whimper that threatened to grow in his red chest, Isi did as he was bade to and laid down across the sand, watching as his father put one of his huge paws over the crab. How would it let go of his paws if his father was crushing it though? Wouldn't that simply make it angrier?

"But... I dunno 'ow I got him there." Isi babbled, his speech was much better than his mother and father's were, however he still skipped some of his letters in his speech. It was something he'd picked up from hearing them talk to him every day. From hearing Khepri sing him bed-time songs while he and Vuai were half asleep. From hearing his father's tales of pirates and ocean capers.

"He'll le' go on him own?"

'Kota chuckled at his son. "tha thing is lad, i aint crushin 'im, I'm makin 'im think 'es under a rock. See crabs feel safest when they're under a rock, hidin' from tha world and jus' gettin' on with their own buisness."

The dark, pale streaked male smiled gently and licked his lips feeling the crab moving beneath his paws. "Move back, nice an' slow like now lad and I'll let 'im go." He winked roguishly, his dark maw curled in a smile.

He moved his paws slowly and looked at the crap stepping backwards himself so that the little beast had plenty of room to scuttle away. "Of ye go lad, back ta tha locker with ye!" He chuckled lifting his head to smile at his blood red child.

Under a rock? Why hadn't he gone and thought of that?

His eyebrows flattened a tad and his ears fell to the sides of his head. At least the crab had let go of his paws, that at least was a blessing. Isitini wrung those same paws together slowly and heaved a deep sigh, angry at himself for having not realized what to do all that time.

"You're smart you are pops. How'd ya know what'd git 'im off of me that fast? Did you get a crab stuck on your paws before too?" Isitini asked finally, knowing full well that there was no way his brave and cool dad could ever have gotten a crab stuck on even one of his toes.

Oou, his paws were aching right now. It was as if the crab had been holding on for hours and hours rather than a mere few moments. Still, at least it was off of him now and not wreaking it's havoc on him.

"So ye don' go smashin' him agains' rocks like that?" Still embarrassed at himself, Isi was trying to play off how loudly he'd been howling, how much of a shame he must be to his father.

Even a crab had beaten him! How was he supposed to do anything if crabs could beat him?

The big dark male chuckled. He didn't want his boy to feel awquard about the situation so he skirted the crabs question a little. "O'er time lad, ye larns things that comes in useful on tha beach. Ye needs a lil more age on yer afore ye larns everythin' Take it as a larnin experience lad"

He smiled happily and reached forwards pulling the deep red youngster to his chest "It's alright ta get in ta scrapes lad, ye learn from um." He let his son go gently licking his face affectionately.

"Jus' you rememebr from now on lad ta keep ye feet outta tha crabs" He beamed happily. Isi was his son after all and it didn't matter if he made a fool of himself. "My ol ma used ta say with age comes wisdom an' it's a damn true statement that is."

"I wish I'd learn 'em all fastah." Isitini grumped a bit. His little black paws crossed over his large expanse of red chest. He was a proud sort of lion, just like his mother and his father. Proud and wanted to learn everything as fast as he could. Learn everything so that he'd never have to let anyone down.

If he had to learn how to fish and hunt and scrape to be useful to those around him then so be it. He would do it with a smile on his face.

truth be told, he actually enjoyed fishing more than anything in the world.

"It better come soon." Isi grouched, wriggling his nose from where his father licked his face gently, "I wanna be o' some use to you an momma." His large white toothed grin was almost cheeky. Was almost annoyingly cheeky. He trusted his father. He knew that his father knew more about anything than anyone on the sand did.

If his mother was any indication she knew what she was doing as well. Though Isitini prayed he never had to find out how much work it was and how much pain went into getting scars like hers.

'Kota chuckled gruffly, his dark eyes shimmering like tiny black marbles. He was amused by his cubs, always amused, they were beautiful, childish and playful, they had their quirks and their own set of ideals which they had soemhow squidged together themselves throught he mishmosh that he and Khepri had put together. All in all, he thought them good, well rounded kids. He was proud of them. All too proud of them.

"Nah you listen ere lad, ye be trustin me when I says you cannae be a learnin' everythin' afore yer ol' enuf ta know it. Ya ma an' I, we bin roun' tha worl a coupla times an' we leanned tha ard way ow to solve problems. ya gotta fall a few times afore ye fin' ye own way." He grinned toothily and ruffled the youngsters head fluff.

"yer already pleny 'o' use ta us lad, ye brin' us a smile, ta me an' ya ma, we ain't nothin witout you an yer brother, you an 'im you made our famly complete ye did an me an ye ma couldn't be no prouder o tha two of ye if we tried." He puurred roughly a sort of half rumbling growl as he cuffed his son lightly, playfully. "Ow bout you tell yer ol man what ye bin up to eh? yer lookin wiser by tha minit."

"Yeah, but they never say nothin bout 'aving crabs 'anging off them own paws." Isitini gruffed a bit, peering at the little and still bleeding sores on his two black paws. Stupid crab.

It felt odd to have his chest swell a bit when it was mentioned that he was of use. Sure he knew that it was a true lie and if it wasn't it was a use that Isi thought had nothing to do with strength of body or mind in either sense of the word strength.

Either way, it felt nice to be complimented and he batted at his larger father's face, despite how very far away it was from his little juvenile paws. One day he hoped he would be as large as his father, though he knew that Vuai was more the likely candidate for that with the size difference between the two of them. His younger brother easily topped him in size and muscle, though Isitini claimed very loudly to be the smarter of the two. Vuai could sometimes outwin him at that even.

Isitini considered himself mediocre, so to be called wise, or at least 'wiser' by his father was a compliment for the lion that seemed to be good at nothing and 'okay' at everything else.

"I wanna learn abou' pirate stories. Tell em to others so they know how pirates live!" Isitini rattled for a moment before clasping both of his small black paws over his white muzzle in embarassment for letting that be known.

'Kota chuckled "well lad, thats a mighty fine profeshun to wanna ave. I know you'll do well in it lad, you jus' beleive in yersel an' one day you'll ave all the stories ye need an you'll be able ta enthrall any audience." He smiled lovingly at his son and groomed his face gently.

"I beleive in ya lad, any cub from ya ma is boun ta be tha gretest story teller in tha worl. She as some mighty fine tales 'o' travellin' erself. Me, I cheated a bit I foun' me a bird, an' 'e tol me all the fabulous tales 'o' tha sea an' tha shores, of pirates an' their ships an' i wasn't one ta jus sit back an' let it sail away from me. i ad to see it."

He sighed happily. "This be whar i belongs lad but if yer heart an yer stories leads yer away, ye jus' make sure ye come back and tell ya ma an me ow yer be doin. We'll b a wantin' to know ow our famous story teller be a gettin on."
