I am so confused
I was trying to make my own corset from a pattern. I measured myself correctly and I used the propor pattern size.
I used a very nice upholstery fabric to ad more support and stiffness. I used boning and very neat stitching and I have two problems.
one, for some reason its too big, even after I sewed with the correct seam allowances.
and two, It looks and acts more like a 'corseted top' as apposed to a corset.
what did I do wrong.

did you make it a few inches to small so that you could sinch it correctly? that could account for both of your problems. cause when you first put it on it should have about 2-3 inches of space on your back.

yea... you're supposed to make it a few inches smaller than your waist... and did you use proper boning? some boning doesn't work as well as others.

I measured it smaller, but it was still too big and I used the only boning I could get my hands on.
I am thinking to put double the boning in this time. like layer it.

That might be why.
Plastic boning tends to be rather flimsy, breaks easily, and warps with continued use.
Here's a couple of websites that do corsetry supplies. They have metal boning etc available there.
smile hope this helps.
