"Mum, mum, mum!" Aapep, who had risen with the dawn had been roaming a little outside of the den. But now he was bored of the same old scenery and having no one to talk to, so he'd decided to go and wake up his mother, if she was still asleep that was.
If she was awake then maybe he could get her to take him somewhere. Somewhere fun, somewhere different, anywhere but here!
He slithered into the den on his belly and all but bumped into his mother's side. Wow, was she still sleeping?
"Mum! Muuuu~uuum!!" He whined, pawing at her with his tiny little forepaws. "Come on mum, it's morning already. Playtime! Playtime!" He put on a pouty face.

As Kirjava was dreaming peacefully, the crimson lioness wouldn't have a moment's more of peace once Aapep was awake and raring to go. As her son pawed at her, she was slowly waken from her slomber. She blinked her eyes a few times, to get the sleep from them before she shook her head.
A gentle smile appeared on her features as she took in her little son. He reminded her so much of Ravi. Though, at Aapep's words she couldn't help but to chuckle softly, "I can see that, Aapep. But you can't go out and play before giving your mom some love!" She brought her paw forward to bring Aapep close to her. Once the cub was close, she bent her head towards him to nuzzle him affectionately and a lick on his cheek. He was definitely a fiesty little cub. It was good for her, it kept her on her toes.

Smiling as his mother stirred, he blinked up at her face, seeing his reflection in her eyes. He wriggled his bottom excitedly and bounced closer, rearing up on hind legs to bop the top of his head against her chin. And then his mother was pulling him closer and he gave a small ‘eep’ sound as he was pressed close.
He wriggled in her grasp, though more from joy than trying to escape. Then, he lifted up his little muzzle and gave her a lick on the end of her nose.
“There, kissy kiss, lot’s of love, let’s go!” It was clear he was torn between his undying love for his mother and his need to escape and explore. He padded clumsily around her and gave her back a push in an attempt to encourage her to stand. “Let’s go explore, mum. The day won’t wait foreverrrr~” And then with a high-pitched giggle, the livewire dived back up to the entrance, bouncing with anticipation.

The crimson lioness couldn't stop the smile that started to stretch from ear to ear. She took in her son's affection, glad that he humored her with it because while she didn't want to seem overbearing, she did like to get a little love from her cub every now and then. With a chuckle Kirjava nodded her head, "You're right, the day won't wait for us!" She stood up and leaned forward to stretch, getting the kinks out of her body before she went to head after her son. Oh, today would be an interesting day, Aapep would make sure of that. But she looked forward to it, it helped her greatly to heal the wounds on her heart that would forever remain open.
Crimson eyes kept her son in view, not wanting him to wander out of her sight. All she could do was shake her head and follow after the energetic cub, "Aapep, what do you want to do first?" She could only imagine what was going on in her son's head, all the adventures he could think of.

He bounced a few paces ahead once he knew his mother was up and following, spinning fully around to face her. There were many things he would love to do, many games he would love to play. So much choice but not enough time to do everything in one day.
He rocked thoughtfully, eyes bright with excitement.
"Um, um, um." He paused, held very still, his little face screwed up in concentration. "Water! Can we go to the...river thingy? The big water?"" To him, a river was big water, he'd never seen the ocean or a lake. All he knew was that rivers were bigger than crummy old waterholes.
"I promise I won't go near no croccy-doles." He nodded. "And if any come near us going rawr, rawr, then I'll them them to go away."

It didn't take her son long to answer her question, as Kirjava couldn't help but to smile fondly. Though, she was a bit weary about taking him to the "big water", she shouldn't fear too much since she'd be there afterall. With a nod she replied, "Of course, Aapep. Just try to stay out of trouble!" A soft laugh escaped before she walked after her son.
With her crimson eyes trailing her son, "Oh yes, the crocodiles should be afraid of my Aapep, since he's my protector!" She winked playfully before she started walking forward, towards on of the larger rivers of this area. While she worried about her son, she would always worry about him as much as she worried about her eldest son, Ravi. She wondered how he was doing and where he was at. It was sad that he was off on his own now, but at least she had Aapep to keep her occupied for the time being.

"Yay!" He bounced in a little circle and then skipped a circle around her before heading in what he -hoped- was the right direction. "Yup, the croccy-doles should be scared of me because I'm smarter than they are." He giggled back over his shoulder, catching his mother's wink and feeling happier for seeing her smile.
And then. after his intial rush he slowed down to match pace with his mother, trotting merrily, tail waving high. "When do you think I'll be old enough to hunt, mum? Then I can help you and stuff and you wouldn't have to do it all by yourself."
He looked up. He was an energetic cub but a perceptive one too and sometimes when he looked at his mother she looked...weary.

As Aapep bounced in a circle and followed her lead, Kirjava couldn't help but feel a slight spring in her step. Ah, the wonders of cubs and what they can do to a lioness. She flicked her tail slightly before she laughed, "Oh yes, you are definitely smarter than those croccy-doles!" Her crimson eyes twinkled brightly down at her son as he made his way slightly back towards her.
Then her gaze shifted forward, searching for the river that shouldn't be too far off from where they were heading. The water was something she enjoyed, after being in the desert for most of her life, she valued the precious blue liquid. Her ears flicked forward before she was brought back to attention at her son's question.
Now where did this come from? Was he not getting enough food with her hunting? She always put him before herself, it was a maternal instinct. Though, there were times when food could get a bit scarce, but that couldn't be what brought the question on, right? She brushed all the worrying thoughts away as she turned down to look at her son, "As soon as you reach my chest, Aapep," She paused and then smiled fondly at her son, "It's very nice to know that you want to help out."

Bobbing contentedly at his mother's praise and genuinely convinced that he'd be able to protect her from the fierce beasts, Aapep seemed to grow with confidence.
At her reply he closed in beside her, trying to measure himself with her chest, trying to see how much longer it might take. And then he hopped in front of her and reared up on his hind legs, rubbing the side of his face against her chest.
Then, with smiling eyes, he bounded away. "Grow, grow, grow." He chimed merrily. "I'll always help you out mum. I love you~!" And then after a moment the water came into view and he gave a happy little squeak. "Look mum, look. There it is!" And he moved back towards her, bouncing and urging, desperate to read this 'amazing big water'.

As Aapep propped himself up on her chest, Kirjava snuck in a lick to his head. "Oh dear, I think you might be growing up faster than I like, Aapep!" She teased her son playfully along the way. At his words, she purred softly in response, "I am glad to hear that. I love you more!"
Though, it didn't take too much longer for the pair to reach their destination. Her son had alerted her to the water's presence by his call. She couldn't help but feel her spirits lifted at the sight of the water and her son's enthusiasm. With a small chuckle, she bent her head down to nudge her son forward, "Why don't we have some fun then?"

"Big is good!" He chirped contentedly. Then he felt her nudge him forwards and lifted his head to gaze at her. Laughter pealed out from his throat as he put on an extra burst of speed.
"Race youuu~!" And his little feet sped up, taking him down the dusty slope, crashing through the grass and then leaping from the bank. He landed in the shallows with a greta crash, gasping as the cold took his breath away. Almost instantly he was scrambling out again, quivering, eyes wide, whiskers and chin dripping.
"Cold!" He blurted, looking in dismay at his legs - that seemed skinner than they had before. "The water is cold, mum!"

As her son raced off in an attempt to race her, Kirjava smiled as she went to play along. She just picked up her pace a bit, her strides could easily overtake her son, but she wanted him to have fun. This was his day and she'd let him win. She called out, "I'm going to get you!"
It didn't take the pair long to get to the shore and that's where she stopped. Her toes were standing in the water as she felt the cool water. But her son, Aapep had dove straight into the water and was soaking wet. She just shook her head at him, he was adorable. Her ears perked up as she nodded slightly, "Well of course it is, Aapep, the sun hasn't gotten hot enough to heat the water up." Summer was just starting to roll around, and it wouldn't be too much longer before the days got hotter. With a playful smile, she took a few steps towards her son before bending her head forward to lick his cheek, "Is the water too cold for you?"

He blinked up at her with wide eyes, ears drooping and water dripping all around him. He shook himself all over, giggling as he realised his fur was sticking up all over the place. “Uh-huh. Too cold. Makes my fur feel different. No wonder croccy-doles don’t have no fur. They’d sink!” He wrinkled his little nose and then shook his head, scattering water from the tuft of fur between his ears.
Then, without prompting he moved to stalk through the reeds, crunching twigs and leaves noisily under his feet. Stealth was something he had yet to learn about. “Oh! Quick, quick! Come see!” He’d found something, something that he hadn’t seen before.
He moved aside to let his mother look and pointed a paw at it. Sitting amongst the reeds was a bright green frog, shiny in the sunshine and curled up like a polished ball of jade. “What’s that? Is it…dangerous?” He glanced up, nervously, whiskers twitching.
Funny. He was more scared of a frog than a croc!

Her son was a quick as ever, with the cute little remarks that made Kirjava's face just light up with pleasure. He brought a light into her light that she had been missing for a very long time now. But, she brushed the thoughts back, now was not the time to get all nostalgic. It was time to spend with Aapep, and to make sure that he had a good life. With a soft chuckle, "They would definitely sink with all the fur, Aapep! And then, they wouldn't be a bother to us if that was the case."
Just as her attention was about to drift she felt it snap back into place as her son called out to her. The crimson lioness walked over to her son quietly before she bent her head down. It didn't take her longer than a second to know what the creature was. A frog. Not at all dangerous, not in the very least. Her gaze shifted from the frog to her son as she replied, "This is no more dangerous to us than a rock," She paused briefly to let her eyes sweep over the green frog, "That, is a frog. They hop and can swim. They can even sing...though, it might not be the most beautiful thing in the world. It has been a while since I last saw one..." Her voice trailed off quietly.

"Frog. Sing?" He chirped and peered up at his mother adoringly. There was nothing that his mother could not know, that she could not tell him. His eyes sparkled and suddenly the cub was moving forward, rubbing himself against her forelegs. "Even if it harmless it sure does look icky!" He giggled, leaning over to get a closer look - brave now that he knew it couldn't hurt him.
He snuffled at its shiny skin. "Weird."
And as if the frog had understood, it chose that moment to jump, knocking the cub smack in the face before landing with a loud plop into the water.
The cub's face was full of shock. "It...it hit my nose!" He bounced backwards and danced a little circle around his mother. "Did you see that, huh? Do you think it understood me and got all sad?" He dipped his ears. "I didn't mean tah hurt his feelings."
