Me and a friend have been havin this debate.. whos a better musician all round?
I reckon its Elton John, 'cause he can play every part he writes... and thats a LOT of different instruments in a variety of styles. But he doesn't write the lyrics Bernie Taupin does...
Eric Clapton on the other hand... Can play guiatr and percussion very well, but you'll notice on lots of his songs, its not him playin the lead, its this other guy (forget his name, begins with B i think.) ALso, he doesn't have as wide a variety (not in my opinion any way.)Although he does write the lyrics, and figures out the main structure of the songs...
so whos better?

I like Claptons songs better then Eltons, but that's purely because of taste and choice of repertoire razz
I don't know much about either artists musicianship, so i don't really think i could make an educated choice.

I dunno...
I like Eric Clapton's music more, but Elton John is- AUGH! I can't choose!

I don't know... well, I like Elton John's music better, but that's just prefrence... I guess he's the more round musician though. He plays so many instruments, and he does help write his lyrics.

I would have to say Elton John. His music is amazing, however, in comparison to Eric Clapton; he loses points because Elton doesn’t write his own songs. Bernie Taupin does. That doesn’t make him a bad person, though. I commend Elton for his excellent piano playing and Clapton for his phenomenal guitar playing. So actually, it’s hard to choose between the two.

I'm pretty sure Taupin just writes the words and has some input into the melody... but elton does all the music.
