User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It was a good and honest day's work, really. She lay among her efforts, limp and rather languid. She didn't belong there, black and tan clothing among the orange, red, and violet geraniums. But she felt like she did.

Curly, scarlet tresses pooled all along the soil and the stems of various flowers. She had made herself something of a bed, but she was careful not to actually lay on any of her tenants. The sun would set soon, but she could feel the last swell of heat in the fibers of her fur. Oh, wouldn't she just like to go to sleep here!

Not far from the female and her large stretch of newly planted flowers were some trees. Against the trunk of one of those trees leaned a great clay jug with strange black marks and cracks running over its surface. She had abandoned it for a little while, like everything else she owed to a legacy she didn't ask for. She was at peace now. But she was alert.

Ngh, that smell was almost overwhelming. It was perhaps a good thing Setsu was dead, else she'd be suffering from allergies of this unknown source. Still, it was an annoyance to her senses and something she wished to put an end to this moment. Balancing on her hinds, the pale femme approached the tree before her and reached up a paw, gripping it firmly around her pinned katana. A forced tug, and the blade was free from it's practice, quickly returned to slumber in it's sheath.

Pouncing back to her four limbs, the kitsu made way from the woods believing the scent to originate there in it's green depths. Trees thinned and soon parted for a small clearing. And it was here that an assualt of vivid colors hit her glazen eyes. Setsu paused to witness the 'kitsu' created landscape of orderly plants. Flowers of many hues lined up in earnest efforts. And sprawled in the middle of it all was a kitsu. Great, more unwanted company.

Keeping hushed, Setsu turned on her heel in her desire to leave the area. At least now she knew the true source of the powerful odors and where to avoid.

"Hold on now, not even a comment?" The question floated its way from the small garden, rich in tone but also swirling girlishly. One pale jade eye pealed itself open to stare at the sky above, but she knew someone was there. Male, female, she didn't know. She was tempted to find out, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to produce the effort of rolling over. The scent wasn't one she knew.

"Don't make me say it... Don't make me ask you to stop and smell the roses..." Skin-toned ears twitched lightly, expectantly.

Crap. Shoulders gave a tired slouch, just knowing that voice was stated towards her. With ears pinned back, Setsu kept her position with two-toned eyes facing away from the 'garden'. "Nope." Their tones of voice seemed like night and day to her ears. One monotonous and the other uplifted.

Her head canted to the side, red eye now able to catch sight of the other. She was still simply laying there, and only taking the bother to find someone to chatter with. Best find herself a bird then. One ear twitched, and Setsu glanced over with minimal curiousity. In the shadows of a nearby tree rested something. Curvy and tan and lined with cracks, something unnatural to guess as a rock.

Tails slapped the ground and the femme only half shrugged. "Then don't ask." And with that she began to walk away.

Ouch. Well, at least one of her questions was answered- she was dealing with another female. Or was, anyway. Was she trying to leave again? A soft sigh issued itself from Hitomi, who was reluctant to leave her little nature nap for someone who clearly did not want to talk. But then again, it was rare for her to come across a potential conversation, even moreso one that seemed to be one that interested her. It was perplexing, though, she'd never really had to fight for someone to come talk to her. Usually everyone was friendly, very sociable, especially other females, the silly things they were.

Setsu would be able to walk a few yards unhindered, only the sounds of nature to accompany her. But then there was a distinct hissing sound, and the female's next step would fall on unstable ground. The soil cracked dryly, and if Setsu wasn't alerted right away her forepaw would probably go in to the elbow before the ground was dense enough to hold her. More cracks ripped across the ground beneath her in warning, something stirring it up just below the surface.

"Well," Mused the girlish voice from before, "You said not to ask. Maybe I should tell you, then?" She had finally gotten up and followed and was now those few yards behind Setsu. On her haunches, Hitomi used her forepaws to brush back her own hair, using her toes to deftly fashion it into a loose ponytail with a band. She was very casual, but there was something playful to her as well, in the way her eyes stayed on Setsu, glinting faintly.

The aggitations of the red haired kitsu behind her was no longer seen or heard, Setsu had already tread some feet into the woods. It never really mattered how nice the day, or how kind the company. She was just never one for encounters where idle chit-chat was a requirement. Perhaps being dead sucked the thrill from those minor events in life. Even the excitement expected in battles anymore were gone, being this world too peaceful and she had no circulation for blood rush. All in all it was a colorless existance.

Tails twitched on the ends and the femme paused with narrowed eyes. That...vibration. She knew that vibration, that subtle pulsing. The pads of her paws quivered with the small sands on the ground, and Setsu was puzzled. She wasn't doing this herself...was it an earthquake? Then she felt the sink, and her reflexes were too slow and baffled to respond swift enough. Front left paw dipped into the ground as easily as soft snow, and the femme glared as a voice accompanied it. "You?" Head turned lowly to the other female now seated behind her. She was controlling it.

"Release me now."

"I guess it must be!" She gasped softly, before a sly sort of smile replaced the façade. After flipping her scarlet mane over her shoulder again, Hitomi lowered herself back onto all fours and began to pad closer.

"I assure you, I have every intention of doing just that. Just not as soon as you'd like it." Maybe that would satiate her some, maybe not, but it was the only promise that she could make the stranger right now. First, she needed to get a good look at who she was dealing with, rounding the femme's side from a respectful distance for the both of them. That hint of cockiness in the redhead flinched for a moment when she was in a position to look at her catch full on, black-rimmed eyes blinking. "Oh wow," She murmured, more to herself than the other, "You're beautiful."

It was a note of quiet admiration, of an artist appreciating the work of another. In the next moment, however, she shook it off, already guessing the sort of awkward position this could put an onlooker in. "Let's start over. I'm Hitomi. I was joking back there, by the way. What I really meant to say was that I'm sorry that I didn't give you a more casual welcome, and that I don't want you to go running just because of my previous lack of manners. Forgive me?" The girl tilted her head, her look softened a bit now with sincerity. Ok, so she might actually want to talk to this one.

Glare turned more stony if possible as the strange femme waltzed closer. Fluttery, smiley and bothersome youth. Setsu twitched the nerves in her trapped arm, only to find the grip of earth too firm. Her only concern at this point was if the other would condense the focused sand; she needed that limb. And with that in mind, Setsu kept as placid as possible with the other's teasings.

With ears pinned, the undead kept a cold gaze set on the girl. Tails were stiff and at the ready for whatever may come. And sand...well that was a last resort. "How about now." Two steps. "Now?" six steps. "Now?" This was getting old fast. Just what point did she have of trapping her so? Face faultered to her little whisper though, before frowning and turning to face another direction while listening to her form of explanation. Joking? So she was claiming herself not a threat? Eyes glimpsed past indigo hair to the other, hearing the tone of her voice as almost sickeningly sincere, followed by her expression. "Hitomi? Then prove so. Let me go and I'll forgive....deal?"

Could she be an annoyance when she chose to be? Yes. Was she a little too playful for her own good? Probably. But a threat she would not be, at least not without a very good cause. This was not one, and so she had never had any intention of doing anything but holding Setsu still for a moment.

There would be a small nod to her name, but with the proposition her eyes narrowed just faintly. Hitomi was not a stupid girl- she heard what the other was promising, and the things she was not. Namely, sticking around. However, the thought of pursuing it made her feel tired and irksome, so after a moment she did nod her assent. "Alright, I trust you." The sand that had gathered around Setsu's paw slackened, and withdrew. The earth beneath it pushed up like a small platform, until the femme was only standing on a little lump of sand where the hole had once been. She was free to move again, and Hitomi watched her quietly, awaiting the verdict with her tails curling quietly around her. "Hopefully you didn't have somewhere to be right away."

Even the action of simply blocking her, one would have to be either very brave or very stupid. Setsu held no depth of time, so aggitation neither grew or faded. It was always there, just waiting for an excuse to reveal itself. So, any face to pop up and interupt her eventless day was just begging to receive it.

So, Setsu met Hitomi's narrowed eyes with her own, mute but clear in their demand. Oh she was good. Not one to squee and jump at the deal blindly; she was considering everything. The undead scoffed to herself as more seconds passed. My, when this girl wanted something, she dealt with it firmly. Then her answer came, and Setsu watched her paw rise up from the ground thankfully. A lift and a shake of dirt confirmed her limb was indeed returned with full quality. "Not a destination at all." Claws adjusted in short waves before returning to the ground. "Now then, mind telling me where you got that fancy skill of yours?" No need to show her own understanding of it.

"The attribute is an inheritance," She replied honestly, not seeing any reason to hide it from the stranger. She was not ashamed of it, and she could no longer keep it any sort of secret now that she had revealed some of it. "The fancy, however, is all mine." Proud? Maybe a little. The origin of this skill... this curse of sorts... she had seen wonders much more impressive than what she would ever be able to muster. But she had made what she had suited to herself, and that was really what mattered.

"I'll let you in on a secret, though. It's not good for much, at least not for me. Flowers don't grow in sand. It takes a lot of work when you have to dig up the soil yourself and hope you don't accidentally suck the life out if it when you do. Maybe you can see now why I didn't want to get up earlier." Her eyes shifted back the way she'd come for a moment, before they returned to Setsu. "But I deter. May I ask your name so we can go ahead and shirk the formalities? Unless you like them." A little blunt, wasn't she?

An inheritance. Now there was a grouping rarely heard or seen from Setsu's lifetime. Most instances of controlling an element were due to your birth alignment. Not family ties. Something in the blood and is inevitably a part of you, what a fascinating individual she came across. Brows lifted lightly to her humor, Setsu canting her head slightly. "Ah, so it's more an object of play to you." She had afterall delt her no harm, and the stunt was something more of show than dangerous tactics.

Pale ears drifted upwards, showing attention to what this shared secret may be. And the undead blinked when she heard it. "Flowers? You focus your skills in gardening?" Well that was...unexpected. She didn't think they'd go into chatter about plants. If she could sigh she would, but the act of air wasn't possible and so the femme just rolled eyes. "Okay then..."

Now a corner of her lips rose, displaying a bemused smirk. "Yes, you do seem quite well on shirking." As if she was one to talk. "But yes by all means, let's skip that. I go by Setsu."

"Something like that." That made it sound so... childish, didn't it? But Hitomi could shrug it off easily enough. She had no plans to show Setsu just how serious it could get, so it might as well stay just as how it was described.

"Everyone has a hobby," She would offer, smirking faintly at the rolling eyes. "Or should, anyway. You don't need to make it sound like it's all I'm doing with my life!" There was a short, smooth peal of a chuckle from her. She looked simultaneously amused and embarrassed, but wholly good-natured as she took the classification in stride.

"And what should I take it that you mean by that. I like to get to the good stuff sometimes, especially when the day's almost over. Not only that but, if you don't mind me saying, you don't really look the type that needs to be pampered with frivolous phrases." Already she felt as if she could be real with the other, which was something pretty new to her. Still, she did try to restrain herself somewhat, reminding herself that they were still strangers even if they did know one another's names now. "Well, Setsu, would you mind joining me back near my little nature patch? Maybe we can benefit somehow from one another. To be honest, it's kinda been a while since I've had the company of anyone that's not blood-tied."
PostPosted: Sun May 11, 2008 8:41 pm

Eh. Setsu shook her head as her thoughts drifted. When was the first day she learned of her own ability? Had it been as playful and carefree as Hitomi presented it? The femme half-smirked to the girl's statement, cocking a brow. "Hn, did it really sound so? My apologies then." She needed to focus more on how her tone of voice carried out. At least this halted encounter didn't seem to mind her...punctuality. At least so far.

Heavy sleeves crinkled as she shrugged, none at all bothered by Hitmoi's little observation. "Oh then I must give myself a thumbs up. I've always tried pulling the air of one to prefer the core of things." The time of day to do so didn't make any difference. Ears perked lightly as Setsu cast eyes on the other, listening like a mannered audience. As sharp as her tongue could be, when it came time for others to speak she always gave them their free space. So to say. "Joining you?..." Now what benefit could there be in that? A flinch set in her eyes as she thought it out. Even beside the fact of sand powers....when was the last time she stayed in the presence of another female? Everyone in this world she's spent time with have been...odd males. Unique to give them credit. Maybe a change of pace would be healthy.

"Sure. Why not."

Hitomi had to quirk a smile at that. She wasn't sure whether or not Setsu was being sarcastic, but at least she wasn't behaving just outright caustic. She had to hesitate at the flinch though, trying to look cool as she implored, "Everything okay?"

She carried on with the confirmation had, if slowly to begin with. Maybe she'd be told, maybe not. But despite her earlier neglectful attitude, the redhead felt as if she needed to at least get a glance of her gourd under the shade of tree she left it. The flowers were just a bonus. Upon seeing the large clay jug, the younger female felt herself relax a little more, giving her more of her mind to ponder over just how best to entertain her guest.

"So, are you from around here, Setsu? I always kind of wondered if others wandered around as much as I do."
