::About Maethu::
Criminal's Name Caste Designation: Maethu 0831
(hereafter referred to as Maethu)
Criminal's Gender: Male
Criminal's Crime: Premeditated Mercy - whether or not Maethu was guilty is up for quite a bit of debate. However, since any other crime of which he may have been guilty would have been punished by death, Maethu is not about to argue.
Full Physical Description of the Criminal: Maethu's roughly football-shaped body floats about four feet off of the ground, trailing seven tentacles beneath it. The six tentacles on either side each end in three slender fingers and a thumb, while the seventh one is stiffer, and sports a large spade-shaped horizontal fin. His back has something like a leathery shell to it, like a turtle; the shell and the tops of his tentacles are bright red, while the rest of his soft body ranges from beige to white. His head is not really clearly defined, except that it is the end of his body with the mouth and the four eyes. Maethu's eyes are all solid black, and his mouth somewhat resembles a white hooked beak.
The Ph'na do not wear clothes so much as armor. As a member of the Thinker caste testing for admission to the caste dealing with field tactics, Maethu wears gauntlets on each of his six hands. They are made of a dark brown leathery material, with metal studs across the knuckles of each, and are designed to allow as much mobility of the fingers as possible.
Full Description of Criminal's Personality, Powers, and What Makes Them Awesome: Maethu 0831 was born into the Maethu - the caste of thinkers, planners, and inventors within the Ph'na - and showed great promise during his upbringing. He was exceptionally intelligent, in fact, and quickly moved up to a rank within the top 1000 shortly after leaving his parents and completing his schooling. His parents, however, knew that he was born with the potentially debilitating aversion to red blood, but kept this knowledge under wraps when they saw how their son performed. Maethu was made aware of it as well, and was also silent about it, for fear that he would be exterminated before he had a chance to prove himself useful.
Maethu's personality was not particularly outstanding, as creativity and nonconformity were not encouraged among his people. He had a bit more leeway in such areas than other castes, since he was expected to aid in the production of new and more sophisticated weaponry for the battlefield, but artists were unknown to the Ph'na. Maethu performed very well in his position with relative consistence, and showed great patriotism towards his superiors, making him a model Ph'na well-deserving of his 0831 ranking. There was one other thing, his blood-aversion aside, that the high-ranking Ph'na did not know about him, however and that was that he was smart enough to wonder occasionally about the purpose of his people's age-old war. But such thoughts were regularly derided over public broadcasts, leaving Maethu with enough healthy fear to continue his outward facade of conformity, for his own protection. Perhaps he could be considered timid in general, however he would dismiss all such accusations by saying that he had never seen much combat before.
Shortly after his parents were killed in a Kiloc raid while on duty, the commanders of the Ph'na posted interest in promoting new members into the Sho'shu caste. The Sho'shu consisted of those exceptional thinkers who were placed on the front lines, putting the Ph'na technology to best use and directing troops, rather than developing machinery or plans from behind the scenes. Maethu applied and made the cut to be further tested, and showed exceptional promise, however his next test came when his examiners sent him to a prison to interrogate a recently-captured Kiloc prisoner, to see how he would perform under such circumstances.
Maethu thought he was alone with the prisoner, save for the security cameras for review of his performance. He interrogated the Kiloc warrior exactly as he had been instructed, however when the prisoner started to bleed, Maethu found himself growing faint and frightened. The Kiloc strained against his bonds, shouting at his captor in his own language in an attempt to further intimidate him. And within the blink of an eye, Maethu had shot his Vaporizer gun at the prisoner, burning away all of him including the blood, and the stunned and appalled examiners burst into the room just in time to catch Maethu in their tentacled arms as he fainted.
Charges of insubordination did not stick, as Maethu had performed as ordered right up until he vaporized the prisoner. Instead, the court-martial established that he had been planning on offering the prisoner mercy - which was a far worse offense. Death was too good a punishment for those Ph'na who showed mercy to the hated Kiloc. And so Maethu was banished.
