JoJo ran tirelessly through the woods, avoiding trees and thick shrubs easily. His paws made hardly any sound as he ran, which suited him just fine. Wherever he was going, he didn't want to be followed. He ran on for several more minutes until he stopped in the middle of a grassy clearing. He looked around warily at the flowers swaying gently in the breeze, at the bugs going along their own merry way with no regard to the strange namir intruding on their clearing, and at the bushes and trees that seemed to stretch for miles and miles. Well out of anyone's earshot, he thought to himself with a small smile. He sat down on the grass and stood tall and regal, his eyes shut, feeling the small breeze blow gently across his face and through his fur.

Tolfitken had been racing quietly after JoJo, her curiousity baited after she saw him once again leave their interupted conversation without a sound. When the brush began to get too thick for her to navigate without making noise she lept to the trees, stopping to drop back down to the ground after he had halted in a clearing some yards ahead of her. Her ears twitched, waiting for any sound other than the wind moving through the leaves to reach them in case JoJo began to run away again. She loved her sensitive ears, allowing her to stay farther away from her target to avoid making much moise in sneaking up to get closer. Poised low to the ground and peeking through a gap in the tall grass, she waited.

After getting his fill of clean air, JoJo cleared his thorat, then as though the noise itself startled him, he whirled around and peered at the trees and bushes with his intense red eyes. "Who's there?" he called out, half expecting to hear someone in return. He even stood perfectly still, his ears barely quivering, straining to pick up anything that sounded like it shouldn't be there. When he didn't hear anything else, he turned back to his view of the woody landscape, closed his eyes, and he gently began to hum.

Tolfitken froze when JoJo seemed to hear her, hoping that her dark fur let her blend in with the shadows and her white eartips weren't too exposed. She waited for him to turn around again, her breath paused in her throat, not daring to make the slightest whisper of sound. When he finally did resume whatever it was he was doing she had to fight not to sigh with releif. Her ears flicked forward at he sound of... Was that humming?

Oblivious to the presence behind him, JoJo continued to hum, losing himself in the notes and vibration. Then, so low that one had to strain to hear it and even then it still sounded like gibberish, he began to sing.
"Dolce Amor... Figlitetta divin... Sei un fiore in gemma Sbocciando vicin.
Aprile sei tu... Ma sogni di giun.. E ogni giorno passando T'inbellezza de piu."
Then his voice grew louder, but was still soft and gentle.
"Dear April child... Are you dreaming of June... Like a tender young flower awaiting summer's bloom? Sweet April child... In the springtime of youth... What a glorious season It is yours, let it shine through....."
He drew in his breath then and sang loudly and with feeling, deep enough to shake the trees.
"Ti sveglia cara figlia! A bud begins to wake! In fondo sei gia bella! Let it grow inside of you....."
His voice softened again, and the very last bit was once again so quiet it was hard to hear.
"Dear April child Still dreaming of June......"
He let the last note linger and he once more fell to quietly humming. In case you're unfamiliar with the song

Tolfitken's sensitive ears picked up every note of the foreign song, wondering what the words meant and why JoJo would want to hide such a magnificent voice. She inched a little further out of the bushes, waiting to see if there was more.

If JoJo had not been so wrapped up in his humming, he would have heard the slight rustle of the bushes as Tolfitken had inched out. But he had gotten his rhythm, and he broke into song again, this time with a different melody, his tone deliberately sad.
She has her eyes... The girl has Lily's hazel eyes... Those eyes that closed and left me all alone. Those eyes I feel will never ever let me go! How can I see this girl who has her hazel eyes?...

Tolfitken blinked her red and blue eyes and tried to keep still, becoming almost as ensnared in the music as it seemed JoJo was. She wanted to try to make such beautiful music, but knew her voice could probably never compare. She was no singer, but that did not mean her sensitive ears could not enjoy it. Debating whether to try and get a closer look or to try and keep hidden so that he wouldn't suspect her the next time she followed, she neglected to notice her paws inching her forward.

JoJo paused for an instant, and one would think he was listening for any indication that his voice had carried too far and to someone's ears. But he had just paused to catch his breath, and this time he stood up and paced as he sang.
Flyyyyy, me up to where you are beyond the distant staaaaar, I wish upon tonight To see you smiiiiiile..... If only for a while, To know you're theeeeeere, A breath away's not far, to where you-
As he sang the last part, he turned about and saw Tolfitken. His eyes grew frighteningly wide and the last word seemed to melt and vanish into thin air. His entire body froze, except for his back spikes, which seemed to slightly bristle.

Tolfitken had closed her eyes to listen to the song, not noticing he had begun to move around. Her ears twitched a litte as they waited for the ending of the song that never came. She slowly opened her eyes to see JoJo staring at her, "Uh oh... I've been discovered..." She had been so shocked about being noticed without noticing it that her response seemed a little simplistic to her, but she didn't know what else to say.

JoJo's breath became slightly heavier, and his spikes rose higher. In his current state of imagined vulnerability, Tolfitken's words seemed to him like she was making too light of the entire thing. In his outrage, she might as well have tried to poison him with chocolate then shrug and say "Busted." His eyes flashed dangerously and his response came through gritted teeth. "Think so?" He honestly felt torn two ways; half of him wanted to fly at Tolfitken and scare her so bad that she would run away and never return, and the other half prompted him to run away himself.

She saw his agitation, but was still too affected by the calming song to react to it. Instead she closed her eyes again and waited for what he might do. He could attack her, run away, any number of things, but she would only hear of it. She didn't beleive such a soothing song could have such a feirce spirit behind it, but then, she knew of many things that went beyond their concious perception. So she waited, offering again her simplicity, "I'm sorry..."

JoJo tamped his paws and gathered his energy for a spring, but as he continued to sit there, the spring slowly left his legs, his spikes began to slowly lower, and the angry red glint gradually left his eyes. At that moment, though she said it simply, her apology seemed to put a hole in him that caused his anger to leak out, whether he wanted it to or not. He brought his hindquarters down with a thump and sighed, closing his eyes. His voice, which had resouned through the fields and trees only minutes ago, was now little louder than a whisper. "S'okay....."

She heard him relax and sit back down, opening her eyes at his whisper, "It was really beautiful..." Her ears twitched a little as she realized how long she had been crouching in the same position, her legs begging her to either fully stand up or lay down, forcing her to move in one way or the other. She stretched her back legs one at a time and sat up, the music finally beginning to dispell itself from her.

JoJo opened his eyes just a little, and the corners of his mouth went from down to straight. "Yeah?" He hated to admit it to himself, and never would he admit it out loud, but after spending so much time singing in secret and far out of everyone's earshot, hearing the simplest compliment on it was flattering. Of course, when everyone avoided you like the plague because they thought you were unlucky, you had plenty of time to practice. Without looking up, he mumbled, "Thanks."
