The breeze gently blew the treetops, sending shivers down Ryu's spine now and again. "Where is she?" he wondered. "It's not like her to be late..." He was suddenly worried. "Did something happen to her?" He paced back and forth, ignoring the chills. "If.. anything happened I'd..." Ryu stopped pacing. "I'd probably die." Ryu continued pacing as he anxiously waited Exodus's arrival.

Unbeknownsed to the Modifox below, a creature stalked him from ten feet above. Magenta fur rippled in the slight breeze, neon green and pink strikes flashing out warningly. Bright violet eyes stared down at the cream and red fox as the vixen slowly crept out onto the branch on its stomach.
Sadly to say, the tree was incredibly old at the time, and didn't really like to have things bigger then squirrels on its branches, and gravity was wanting to show her how it dealt with 'sneakers'. The vixen lept from the branch out of a natural instinict, for it had collapsed out from underneith her. 'Traitor!!' , her brain seemed to scream at the branch, glaring at thing as she sailed through the air, her fox-form held out in a Superman-like figure.
Her lept of faith had not been calculated very well, for she didn't land gracefully next to her target-fox, but in the eafy part of the traitorious branch. Emerald green hid the Magenta Modifox landed, with only her bright green streaked tail sticking out. Mant would say that this was very humorous, but for the Modifox whose name was Exodus, it was down right embarassing!

Ryu heard something, whipping around furiously. "What was that?" he wondered aloud. As the breeze brushed against his fur, he saw something sticking out from the leaves. There, where he gazed, was Exouds's tail. Ryu seemed to smile. "There she is." Slowly, he crept up behind her. He steadied himself and then pounced on the magenta fox. As he did so, a strange sensation went trough him. He didn't know what it was. "Gotcha!" he exclaimed after landing on Exodus.

Exodus started a little when Ryu pounced on her, but something else made her heart hammer in her chest. Something that resembled an electric shock went through her blood streams and stung her heart sharply, causing it to go into over-time.
Exodus laughed at his 'war cry', trying to get out from under neith him. She began laughing out of the strain, but finally gave up on her attempts of freeing herself on her own. "Ru-Ru! get off!! You're heavy!!", she stated jokingly, laughing at the same time. "What have you been eating, an Elephant?!"

Ryu stared deeply into Exodus's eyes. He kept at it until she wanted out. "Oh, Sorry!" Quickly, he removed himself from her. He walked around, thinking about something. He shook his head as if deciding against something. Then, he nodded to himself and walked calmly back to where Exodus lied. "Hey, uh... Exodus?" he stumbled. "C-can we go for a walk? Ya know, in the forest?" He swished his tail back and forth. As he did so, the dirt was flung into the air. Ryu coughed from the dust swirling around him. He awaited her answer.

Exodus blinked a couple of times, then stood up. She struggled to control her hummingbird-paced heart, her legs feeling like jelly. Her stomach was busily doing acrobatics, and her brain was no better than a bowl of pea-soup.
'It's just from the fall.' ,she explained to herself, trying desperately to sort back into reason and logic. 'I'm feeling the after-shock from the fall. I was beginning to wonder when it would start to happen! It's nothing. I can handle this!', she silently cheered herself on as she waited for Ryu to speak.
Exodus listened to him speak, blushing slightly when he stumbled over his words. She slid silently up beside him, magenta fur brushing against cream, her tail momentarily wrapping around his. They had been friends since before she could remember, so she had desided that he probably mind if she did that.
She looked around them, starring thoughtfully at the trees that surrounded them, then locking eyes with Ryu. The action made her heart skip a beat, but she held his gaze. "Aren't we already in the forest?" she asked, smiling at him.

Ryu nervously studdered."Uh.. y-yea, I g-guess we are." He felt her tail wrapped around his, and a warm feeling shot through his body. It threw him off. Suddenly, he had no clue what he was doing, where he was, or what his name was. All he had on his mind was her. He kept looking into her eyes, which were earnest and sincere. Since being friends, he had grown used to having her around, but now everything was... different. His tail intertwined with hers, he started walking. He watched as the sun glinted off her magenta fur. Ryu couldn't stop himself from staring.

Exodus sighed as they began walking, feeling the strange sensation in the pity of her stomach ease slightly. Appartently, walking or being on the move helped, a lot! She mentally took note of it, her tense muscles relaxing. It was strange. The only felt truely relaxed, truely free to be herself, when she was with Ryu......
She looked straight ahead, looking calm and peacful as the fireflies began to show up. It was still early in the evening, but already the sky was getting tinted orange and gold.
The brown trunks of the trees complemented the emerald green leaves they supported. It was spring, the smell of 'after the rain newness' hanging in the air, as well as flowers perfuming the air with their various scents and coloring up the tall, green grass.
She saw a clearing in the distance, and smiled brightly. She looked over to Ryu, to ask him if he wanted to explore with her, when she caught his starring at her. She jerked slightly at this, and bashfully looked down. She quicken her pace immediately, uncurling her tail from his in the process.
She reached to clearing before him and lay down on an embankment that lead down to a clear, small, sparkling pool of water. The fireflies danced over to water's surface as the Female Modifox struggled to control her feelings.

Ryu stopped, confused as Exodus ran off. He wasn't sure why. Suddenly, a moment without her was like a lifetime. "Exodus?" he called. He ran quickly to the clearing, wanting to see what was wrong. As he reached the bank, he saw her body tense and decided that he went to far. He could tell she was uneased, and told himself he shouldn't stare at her again. "Uh.. Exodus?" he questioned. "D-did I do something wrong?" He gently layed down beside her avoiding looking at her sparkling fur. Ryu thought it would only hurt her. To him, it was taunting. He just stared at the fireflies, resisting the urge to chase one until he knew what was wrong.

"NO!!"
Her reply had been swift and automatic, her voice echoed around the clearing and she stared at him with wide violet eyes. She quickly looked down, her long, slender ears laying flat against her skull in embarassment.
She sighed, mentally making up a story as to how to explain her recent behavior towards him. "It's.......Starrla." , she stated slowly, chewing on her idea. She added a few modifications to it to make it more believable before beginning her tale.
"She made me practice catching Fireflies all day yesterday. I didn't catch a single one! How pathectic is that?! A fully grown ModiFox not being able even to catch a stupid bug! I shudder at the thought of catching a real animal! I came here so I practice, but I give up!"
She looked down in a realistic shame. The story was really true, but not the real reason for her behavior. "It's little wonder that no Tribes would ever accept a Fox that couldn't even hunt for themselves......", she mumbled to herself, studying the grass, wondering how long it would take for Ryu to reply.

Her quick reply took Ryu aback. At least he knew he did nothing wrong. Or so he thought. He listened to her story, wanting to comfort her again. "I'm Sorry," he whispered into her ear. "Even if it wasn't my fault." He got up and stretched. He layed back down on the grass, studying the same grass she was. "I know you'll get into a tribe someday." he comforted. "I believe in you. I hope to join the same one you do..." He hoped his blush wasn't too obvious. Ryu riskily wrapped his tail around hers, and nuzzled her gently. "I don't know why you freaked out about that when I looked at you, but I don't care. I'm just happy I'm with you now."

Exodus was surprised to say the least when Ryu ended his words and began to nuzzle her neck. She nuzzled around his muzzle a bit, then layed her head on his back. Then, the confessions began........
"How can any one being be as kind as you are you me, Ru-Ru? How can you keep comming back to me.......... a monster in Modifox form. I don't even deserve to be a live right now! Why? Why do you? How could one as kind, simple, pure, and gentle as you ever care for me, a twisted being?!"
A silent tear slipped down her cheek, crystal and pure, but hidden from sight. Finally, she asked to question that had been haunting her heart for a looooooonnnngggg time:
"What did I do in a past life to deserve to even know you?"

"I-I... I..." Ryu uttered. He couldn't express his feelings right now, he was blushing too much. He changed his reply. "Please, Exodus, don't say that. I don't like listening to your negative comments about yourself." Ryu had to resist the urge to comfort her further, hoping he wouldn't cause her so much pain. He whispered in her ear, finally deciding to admit his true feelings."Truth is, I think I'm in... love with you." He bit his tongue, hoping his words were the right ones.

Exodus's eyes widened and her chest felt like it stuffed with cotton at Ryu's proclaim. Her heart felt like it would brust with joy, and a warm, fuzzy feeling covered her. Then, she sighed bitterly as the weight of reality came crashing back down on her, and her heart frozen over.
"I had hoped that you wouldn't fall in love with me..."
She stood up, shaking the dirt and grass out of her fur. She stared down at him, her eyes cold and emotionless as her heart now felt. Her chest twinged with pain when she saw his eyes, so beautiful, so caring, even in the face of ugliness that was her.
"I would say I hate you, " , she spat at him, then turned and walked away from him and his proclaim.
She stopped, at the other side of the clearing, and raised her head to the newly appearing stars. She almost looked peaceful. Almost. Except for the fact that anguish seemed to radiate from her very soul. "But that would be a lie....", she whispered to no one, before dissapearing into the trees.
