Alright, I was commissioned to draw two Night-Elf (NE) characters for a poster.

One is a NE warrior (male) and the other is a NE hunter (female). They are not lovers, but the warrior is protective over the huntress.

I've just completed the line-art for it and my idea was to have the warrior positioned at the "blind-spot" of the huntress while she proceeds to perform a jump-shot. It's a poster so I figured, action = good. Oh, and her cat thing is on the right. Their names will be at the top.

exclaim NOTE exclaim Forgive the lack of details unlike my other line-art; I plan to color them in. ALSO, the owner did not want any particular environment/scenary for them to be in, so it's going to be colored background.

The hunter's leg seems odd to me. If one could tell me how to fix it it'd be appreciated. Please tell me what you think and what areas need to be fixed. Also tell me if you like the composition so far.

I like action and all, but is it necessary to have the girl in the air like that?

I mean, I read a lot of comic books and I've never liked the tendancy to make characters float or jump while doing whatever they're doing to add extra action. I mean... aiming and firing a bow while doing a backflip? Come on now.

The composition in general seems kind of crowded as well, but that is alright. I do like the line art and style, but I think that the hunteress could probably be standing.

i think with the huntress the line of action is a little weird. i'm not too sure about having both her legs be up in the air like that, i think it'd look a lot more stable if one of her feet was on the ground. she could be up on her toes or something or even having the knee on the leg farthest from us be positioned a little differently than the one in front. especially in action poses, 'twinning' makes stuff look weird. it's very rare that both legs will be doing the same exact thing at the same time...normally one will always be slower than the other...so maybe that's something to consider?

her feet also look a little too relaxed. if she's about to strike she should be tense, and maybe having the foot be a little more pointed would help with that. it's like your muscles tighten before you strike and it looks like she's just taking a break and letting the warrior guy do all the work (while posing for the camera).

the hair should also have some follow through with the gesture. either have it up like it's going through the secondary motion or having it down as if gravity kicked in and the hair is still going through the motion.

i think the huntress' right arm can be exaggerated more. i kind of want to see it sorta curve to the side of the warriors' head. overlapping some areas gives your piece added perspective, especially since her arm is extended. it feels off to me to have it be behind the warrior guy.

the composition is pretty cool. i like how the warrior's hand is coming up at us, nice sense of scale. i'm kind of confused at what's happening on the bottom left corner of the picture, but i also feel that the warrior's weight is a little awkward. i think it's because i'm not really seeing his right arm, so he looks a little unbalanced. i think just drawing a tiny portion of the other arm will remedy that, so he doesn't look like he's missing an arm. and even if he's supposed to, just showing a little more of the shoulder or something would probably help.

the cat looks a little flat to me too. i kind of want to see some exaggeration and foreshortening like you did with the warrior. maybe having a paw be in the foreground more? it doesn't feel like it's part of the piece, probably because it's so far away in the background. i think just having one part of it be part of the foreground will help tremendously, either with a paw or the tail or fixing the angle of the head (maybe 3/4 view...make it look more menacing). then maybe you can add a little bit of motion/radial blur on it to make it look like it's pouncing.

but all in all i think it's a real good start. the flow of the piece is really nice, and i like how they're set up into a triangle...keeps the viewer's eyes from wandering away.

Oh, yeah. You were wondering about the Hunter's leg? It's odd because all the fat of her thigh near the knee is squished to the inside of her leg, instead of distributed fairly equally. It makes it look like part of the thigh near the inside of the knee has been cut off. Remember the soft curve there and that that part of the leg has mass.
