My first mobile game review. For how long i have had my mobile, i've been looking for a game to kill time that had more than 30 minutes of gameplay. So, you think RPGs (No, not rocket powered grenades). Might and Magic II is the prequel to the earlier mobile game Might and Magic, released in 2005. It is a good mobile game with hours of gameplay even on speed runs. It is a great way to kill time while my DS is on the AP adapter.
Plot: Long ago, the goddess used the powers of might and magic to create the world. And two thousand years ago, a demon attempted to take those powers for his own and ruled the world, until brave and legendary heroes, using the powers of might and magic, sealed him away. BUT enough of that garbage!
You control Louise (Actually that's the default name, you choose the name yourself), a guy who somehow is a knight. You have to stop the resurrection of a demon lord using the powers of might and magic! Wait... wasn't that the plot of Dark Messiah? And every other Might and Magic title? Whatever.
Anyway, you eventually come across Sophie about half an hour into the game (A new record. In Legend of Zelda it takes a temple and a lot of sneaking around before you meet up with the princess) Sophie is the queen of some land with a title that not even Tolkien would come up with. You take her with you, and travel with her to an even more nonsensical nation which has the power of might.
Graphics: Okay... i know Might and Magic: Dark Messiah had the most detailed physics engine of any game, so you can expect an interesting physics system in this. But breast physics in a mobile game? That's overkill. I mean, the sprites have no facial detail, but two of the four female body variations have bouncing boobs. If you like that sort of thing, more power to you. But this game sure seems to do its best to make it seem like an M rated PS2 game. More blood than the God of War mobile game, and even a sex scene. I mean, yeah, i wanted a good mobile game, but HOLY !@#$!
Gameplay: You start off-- actually, you start off with no shirt sleeping in an inn run by your sister. Your sister does not use a body frame with bouncing knockers, so it seems like she gets no business. Eventually you get a sword and armor. Wow. You can do a two slash combo. But don't throw down your mobile game and start looking up the definition of hentai on Wikimobile. As you level up, your slash combo gets larger, you master new spells (All of them with overkill titles like Diffusion Wave Motion or Final Destiny) and the charge slash gains new powers. The enemies are fairly limited though, but don't let that get you down.
Music: Okay, so you can't set your hopes high on a mobile game for this subject. There actually is a grand total of TWO complete sound loops. The rest are about 30 seconds long, but normally that's the time it takes for you to reach the next big enemy or a treasure chest to trigger the next sound.
Difficulty: This game presents a good challenge, but actually isn't too difficult. A very good balance for a mobile game, it's like the boost of difficulty Zelda games need. You will see the game over screen, but you won't be discouraged because it is obvious where you went wrong, you're ready to try again. The enemy A.I. isn't exactly the best thing you could have hoped for. To compensate, you have a relatively low amount of hit points, even with the best armor equipped you can't take too many hits. But you still find so many health items and weapons and equipment dropped that you rarely need to visit a store.
Overall: A sex scene and do-or-die button mashing in a mobile game? It's a game on your cell phone that thinks it's on the GBA. If you ever find yourself in a waiting room with a bunch of old magazines or your teacher is asleep, this game is perfect. Well... not perfect. There are a lot of plot holes, and everything is kind of crammed in. You do have to be lenient on this score because it is just a mobile game. But for just a mobile game, this one is a very good one.
Final rating: 8/10
Extra: In the final scene after you've beaten the final boss, you will see why i marked this game as a prequel to Might and Magic.
