A building leading to the opening of Diagon alley. A Wizarding hangout in the middle of London. The greasy, gray-haired bartender asks you your order, if your a regular he assumes the usual. The kegs behind look like they were made in the early seventeenth century, the counter smudged and wooden. The stools are simple wood, matching the square tables in the room. The smell of butter beer and alcohol attack your senses as you enter.

Ascella strolled into the leaky cauldron, a small black hardcover book in her left hand. She had her right hand in her pocket, her hair slightly swaying as she walked.
"Butter beer." She said to the bartender, putting down the exact amount on the counter and went to sit down in a chair in the back. She had about two hours until happy hour started, so it would be mildly quiet until then. She took out her book, removing the credit card she used as a bookmark. Her eyes scanned her book, noting her story throughly in her head. She looked up at the sound of a clunk, the bartender putting my drink on the table. Ascella nodded, looking at him with eye contact, something she rarely did to anyone she did not know the name of. She continued reading by candle light, subconsciously eavesdropping on other peoples conversations.

The strong sun was merciless, pounding onto the slim shoulders of a young woman. It feed on the moisture from her skin and, after the hours already spent outside in the heat, began to dehydrate her. She kept her hair from sticking to the back of her neck by tossing it in a simple, yet effective twist up. Securing the mass of wavy locks with a deep purple clip.

How hot it was outside. Not a good day to forget one's chapstick. The moment her tongue slid over her lips and felt the forming cracks, she was fortunate enough to catch sight of the Leaky Cauldron.

"Excellent." Kanita smiled as she pushed the wooden doors open and stepped into the shaded room.

Kanita's eyes took a moment to adjust to the immediate change in lighting. As the room took shape, Kanita headed to an empty table and untangled herself from the shopping bags that constricted her arms. She shoved them underneath before going up to the bar for a water and croissant, paying, and returning to her table. Sinking gratefully into the wooden chair, Kani quickly downed her beverage. And as she began ripping pieces from the now-buttered croissant, Kani realised that Ascella sat at the table next to hers.

Swallowing her bite, Kani called out to Ascella with a familiar smile, "Cella! Hey, it's good to see a familiar face. How's the summer treating you?"

Ascella her the sound of the Ravenclaw student that had addressed her.
"Kinata." She said rather coldly, not looking up from her book. She finished up the paragraph before putting her bookmark in and looked up. Ascella put her book down and took a quick sip of her drink.
"My summer has been fair." She said quietly, but not shyly.
"I have only seen one person from school this summer. kale, he came over a few times. My dad loves him. Apparently he has the same joke every time, telling us to use protection." She spoke this rather dryly, letting out a small laugh when she came to the part about the protection. Kinata was one of the few people from other houses she got along with, and she really didn't know why.
"How was your summer?" She tried to sound as sincere as possible, but everyone knew that she was only asking to be polite.

After a nice walk down Diagon alley, enjoying the sights and all, on the way from Flourish and Blott's, Mellisande walked into the Leaky Cauldron. She looked around, and then smiled a little, recognizing Ascella, of course, as another Slytherin, and then Kanita Doyle. She pondered them, and patted her pocket, checking to make sure both her present for her mother and her letter full of info and one other small object was there, and wandered towards the other two.
"Hello..." She murmured, in her softly accented voice. "It has been a while. How are you, Ascella, Kanita?" She tilted her head, and murmured "Ascella, I never heard back from you, did you not receive my letter, inviting you to Provence to stay at the Family home for a bit?"

Ascella smirked at her friend Mellisande, seeing her take a seat.
"It has been a while. Hello Mel." She smiled, taking another soft gentle sip of her drink.
She listened to Mel as she asked about the letter, not remembering anything.
Oh dear...A picture of her brother shoving a piece of paper down the toilet appeared in her mind.
"So thats what my brother was doing with the mail." She smiled, thinking of her younger brother Allen, being a weird child as he was.
"Allen gets weirder and weirder by the minute." A small laugh escaped her lips as the image of her brother, door wide open, shoves the spam mail, and a white letter, down the toilet.

Mellisande looked immensely relieved. "Oh good! I was worried, indeed, that you were mad at me for something, and I knew not what I'd done! How are you, 'Cella? Ready for the new school year?" She sighs a little. "It's going to be a busy one, indeed, for all of us, and I suspect mine will be more so then usual."

Ascella put her hand up to her face in fake shock.
"Of course I wasn't mad at you! However next beak I'm going to beat the scruffy little kid to a pulp." She smiled innocently, picturing her brother locked in the large grill her father owned, bewitching it to stay shut. "I would never be mad at you Mel," she continued, taking another sip of her last butter beer to finish it off.
"I'll just have to make it up to you during our next break." Cell smiled, her mug set down gently in front of her.
"How was your summer? I hope I didn't cause you too much grief.."

"Oh good..." She smiles rather more happily. "I just worry, what can I say, when a dear friend doesn't reply..." She brushes a lock of her hair from her face, and then shrugs. "My summer was good, busy as usual. Spent time at home, then the Provence home, then out and about in the world, what with Dad's yearly 'trip some where new'. It was interesting, certainly. I have a few gifts for folks when we get back to school."

Ascella, a smile across her face thought of her summer.
"Well, at least you weren't too busy. I was busy taking care of Allen while my mom went to care for my sister. Ugh." her smile faded by the end of her sentence. Kale was over too. She smiled, her face flushing slightly as she remembered the parties and the summer nights..
"I'm so sorry. I'll have to get you a really nice 'start of the school year' gift."

Mel smiles back and then tilts her head. "Hmmmm...." She ponders Ascella, then says "No, no worries! I just... I was far away and felt items from there should be brought to my friends, I don't need anything!"

Ascella, her head in her hands, a smile stroked across her face, looked at Mell, smiling at her flustered face as she said she didn't need anything. Her eyes looked at Mell, but her mind was on her memories. After a few moments, she came back to reality, sitting sharply up in her seat.
"Oh dear. I must have spaced out again. I'm sorry." her face flustered as she apologized to Mel.

"Oh my! That sounds like it was fun. I have to admit, I'm jealous..." Kanita trialed of with a tweak of her eyebrow, as she lightly wondered what relationship Cella and Kale had. It was quite mysterious. But then again, Kani could never figure out which witch that boy was dating or only friends with. So she shrugged it off and was about to respond when, suddenly, Mellisande arrived.

As the two Slytherins familiarized themselves with each others summer, Kani ordered up another drink and drained it just as quickly as the first. Her thirst had left her tongue quite dry, but now it was actually quenched. Wonderful.

Swiping a loose tendril from the side of her face and behind her ear, Kani let a smile slip upon her lips as Ascella flushed. Hm, perhaps their is more there...

"Mel," Kani hid the amusement from her voice, but couldn't disguise the sparkle in her eyes, "Don't keep out the good bits of your vacation. What cultural experiences did you manage to snog- I mean snag?" Of course, she was talking about the wizards Mellisande was sure to have met. The exotic, accented, charming ones.

A smirk began fighting its way on her face already.

Mel arches a slight brow at 'Cella. "Mmmm I guessed. But I was most disappointed, yes, that you didn't come by with Kale when he visited." She sighs. "Ah well."
She then turns to Kanita and giggles. "Ah but Kanita, a lady witch never kisses and tells..." She pauses, then adds "Without proper refreshment and the proper assurances that the young'uns wont be disrespectful, thinking the wrong things about me. I need their respect this year, more then ever." She sighs, then murmurs "I made Head Girl. And as wonderful as it is... It's also SUCH a load of responsibility." She made a slight face. "But there it is. Mum, of course, is insanely proud."
