For the thirty-seventh time that night Aeing paused to lean against a wall, and take off the added weight of her unexpected charge whilst she placed him on the ground.
The toddler stared up at the teen. He was hungry, and a little tired. But mostly hungry. So why was she stopping? He poked her gently with a pale finger, his curious green eyes waiting for a response. "Food?"
The teen rubbed her temples with her hands, and nodded simultaneously. "Yes, we'll get food soon. You forget that I'm hungry too." She would have added his name in at the end for effect, but she still hadn't made any progress past 'Ishmal'.
Ishmalavaeo frowned. They were both hungry. Walking meant getting food faster, yet... She wasn't walking? His eyes pressed together in confusion, and the young boy covered them with his eyes. "You, I... it..." He was clearly having trouble properly voicing how little he understood her actions. "You." He finally said, continuing after a moment. "No sense." Aeing stared at him. She made no sense? As soon as she got home, she was feeding the kid a dictionary. Just as she was about to say something, the boy elaborated. Slightly. "Fast, means food." He poked her again with a small finger. "Slow."
Oh. Suddenly it all made sense to Aeing, and she crouched down to the boy. "Heavy." She said susinctly, tapping him lightly on the nose as she did so. Immediately, the child bowed his head, and murmured something that the teen was sure she wouldn't have been able to understand anyway.
Looking out at the street before them, she noticed it was getting progressively more wet with rain that she hadn't known was there before. Suddenly she was wishing that she had called someone to come and fix her broken-down car, rather than tow it to her apartment complex. It was then that she glanced down at her hand, feeling a tugging sensation. It was Ishmalavaeo.
"Food?" His free hand was steadily pointing at a Cafe down the street that neither of the two had seen before. "Now?" He smiled, and Aeing sighed. Then she scooped up the toddler, and attempted a grin.
"Sure. Why not." Within three minutes, the duo had managed to make it to the Cafe. They were both sopping wet due to a break in overhead cover, but they were otherwise safe. Walking towards the reception desk, Aeing waited for someone to come and help seat them. She could only hope that it would be before Ishmalavaeo started asking one-word questions again.

The only thing that Neil hated more than slow days was people. Which was odd since his older brother thought it would be a great idea to give him the café while he ran away south with his new wife. The only reason why Neil even took the job was because Shiri wouldn’t be able to get out of bed in the morning without a wake up call and a bucket of cold water.
Now Shiri has a son that has easily fits into the role that Neil has while they were growing up. His little brother forgets to eat if no one shoves food in his face.
The bell above the door rang before Neil could wallow in any more self pity. He took his head off the table and grabbed two menus before he went to greet the young woman and her child. Or he hoped it was her child. The last women who came here tried to flirt with him. That ended badly.
“If you come right this way a waiter will be around shortly to get your orders.” He said cooly as he brought them to a booth in the corner where he wouldn’t have to see them from where he waited at the front desk. Maybe if they couldn’t see him, they wouldn’t try to talk to him.
Neil waited until he saw Shiri come through the door of the kitchen before he went to go stand at the desk again. He wasn’t needed here anymore.
Shiri stared after his brother and sighed before he turned to the new customers and smiled like Tanz had taught him to.
“Is there anything I can get you two drink?”

As Neil came and directed the duo to their booth, Aeing smiled in relief, glad that it hadn't taken long at all. "Thank you very much." Very very much. Her back had begun hurting again, and being able to sit down was seen as a small salvation. The thought of that fact made her feel oddly old.
As the teen seated herself on the comfortably cushioned booth, she placed Ishmalavaeo beside her. When she was settled in, with her light jacket laying behind her, she went to move the young boy onto her lap. "Here, you won't be able to see the table if you stay there, Ishm-" She momentarily forgot that she couldn't pronounce his name, and instead opted for a quick escape route. "Ishy." The nick-name made the child stare at her quizzically. His name wasn't 'Ishy'.
"Ishmalavaeo." He said it so quickly that Aeing barely caught it.
"Ishy."
"Ishmalavaeo." The boy repeated, just a rapidly if not faster. It didn't seem as though the child wanted to compromise on his name, however Aeing could see another official-looking person coming towards their booth and she knew the petty argument needed to end.
"Darling Ishy boy." She swooned comically at the young boy, and nearly laughed at the truly disgusted look that crossed his face. He crossed his arms, presumably insulted, and looked away.
"Ishy." Aeing grinned triumphantly, but quickly composed herself for the waiter beside her, giving him the same courtesy of smiling as he gave her.
"To drink? Umm..." She thought for a moment. "Well, it'd be amazing if I could get some coffee and-" Aeing was cut off by Ishy, who was staring intently at the waiter.
"I would like food." The teen gaped at her charge. He had used more than three words at once! Was he always able to do that? Or did he constantly use only one-word responses to bother her? Quickly closing her mouth, she looked back at the waiter apologetically.
"I'm sorry, it's his first time in a restaurant," She glanced at him suspiciously out of the corner of her eye. Well, she certainly thought it had been his first time in a restaurant, but now she wasn't so sure. "Could he have a small, warm hot chocolate, please?"

Shiri smiled at the girl and the impatient child in her lap.
“So a coffee and a hot chocolate?” He asked as a reference and to make sure he remembers it to the short walk to the kitchen. Nodding Shiri went to turn around and ran straight into Tanz, who just latched onto his legs and rubbed his eyes sleepily. The boy had been taking a nap in his booth when he heard the bell ring and thought it was time to investigate the new comers.
“Canna help?” Tanz asked in a wide yawn as he stared at the lady and the boy sitting on his lap. Shiri patted him on the head and gently pushed Tanz out of the way so he could walk by.
“Why don’t you keep them company while I go get them their drink’s.” Shiri hoped that they wouldn’t mind. It’s not Tanz could do that much destruction while he was still half awake, the real trouble happened when he was bright eyed and bushy tailed.
“Mmmm’k.” The little boy murmured as he went and climbed into the other side of the booth and made himself comfortable. Yawning again he looked at the people he was now sitting across from.
The lady looked nice and the little boy felt familiar. He felt like Lynet, Cole and Takan when he first saw them. Thinking of Takan brought a small smile to his face but he quickly wiped it off and studied them further.
“My name is Tanz. My dad and his meany brother own this place.” Tanz tried to think of something else to say, but before his brain could form something his mouth ran off without him. Again.
“Your hairs are pretty.” Tanz said just in time for Shiri to hear him and almost spill the coffee and hot choco he was carrying.
“Tanz.” Shiri said flabbergasted. This was the third time today his kid had used that same line, only this time it didn’t seem like he wanted to take it back.
“What?” The boy asked confused. “But it’s pretty and red.”

The teen nodded. "Yes please." As the man walked away from the table, she looked at Ishy, confused. "I thought you couldn't say more than three words at once!"
Ishmalavaeo simply furrowed his eyebrows and looked at the teen oddly. "Not couldn't," He reached out to the menu that rested in front of him on the table. "Wouldn't." It was a simple matter for the boy. If he felt like speaking, he would speak. If he didn't want to, he wouldn't.
His reasoning left much to be desired, by Aeing's standards, but the teen was far too frustrated to be properly mad at the child. So instead, she let herself slide, and shrugged off the lack of explanation, handing him the menu he couldn't quite reach. "Fine." Looking at her own, she began scanning through the items, trying to decide.
As the menu was placed in his hands, Ishy smiled, and turned it upside-down, his hands prying the broken metal corner-piece off. When he was finished, he placed the menu back onto the table, and slipped the piece of metal into his pocket. It was rusted, dirty, and bent out of shape, but that's what made it apeal to him.
Looking across the table, Ishy saw another boy climb into the booth. His name was Tanz. Ishy looked up at Aeing, then looked back at the new boy. "You're more interesting than she is." He said, then slid next to him.
The teen winced, feeling unexpectedly hurt by Ishy's comment, but introduced herself. "My name is Aeing, it's nice to meet you Tanz."
"I'm Ishmalavaeo." Remembering the argument he had with Aeing just a moment before he quickly added, "Or Ishy. But don't call me darling Ishy boy." He didn't notice Aeing giggle at the request, as he was busy wincing in distaste.
He cocked his head to the side at the compliment, "Really?" Ishmalavaeo pinched a section of his loose hair between his fingers, and pulled it out in front of his face so he could examine it. His eyes brightened, and his voice quieted. "It is." Looking back at Tanz, a thought struck him. "Do you like pretty things?"
Aeing was just about to try to break the tie between a blueberry cheesecake and a strawberry strudel, when she heard the shocked voice of the waiter. Her head snapped up and away from the menu, and she inspected the scene before her, feeling as though she had just missed something vital. She hadn't heard any swear words, so she couldn't imagine what had happened. Unless it was the sheer shock that Ishy was speaking in sentences, cause that caught her off-guard too.

Still half awake Tanz didn’t notice that the new pretty was right beside him until his mother introduced herself and her son shortly after.
“Nice to meet you too.” Tanz smiled politely at the lady, she didn’t look as old as Cassi did, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t a lady. Shiri had always told him that he shouldn’t smile with teeth all the time, it gives the wrong impression. “Your pretty too, but you look tired. Naps are always good.”
Turning to Ishmalavaeo Tanz’s eyes widened as he tried to run the name through his head again. “Ishmala-“ He tried and scrunched up his nose trying to remember the rest of it. It sounded so nice when he said it. Tanz tried a few more times until Shiri placed his hand on his head and patted it.
“I’m Shiri-“
“He’s my daddy. Daddy meet Ishy and Aeing.” Tanz stared up at his father and smiled. At least he could say Ishy. After introducing his father to his new friends he plopped right down and stared at the red head right across from him.
“The only hair that I have seen that is Red is Otto’s, but he liked to dye it and put white stuff in it, so it doesn’t look as pretty.” Tanz nodded to himself as he tried to figure out why he liked pretty things so much. While he was thinking up a suitable answer Shiri came out of his stupor and addressed Aeing.
“Are you ready to eat or do you need more time to decide?” Shiri grabbed around for his little note card to read the specials off of. “Today we are having a deal with all the deserts, they are freshly made this morning and all the meat pies are put together through out the morning.”
Tanz squeaked and bounced on the booth making it creak with his movement. “I like pretty things because they make people stand out so I can always remember them, even if they don’t want me too.”
Shiri stared at his son and smiled awkwardly.
“Is there anything you like Ishy?” Tanz asked with wonder as he stared at his new friend. Ishy seemed nice. Not like Cole, even if he speaks in small sentences.
