I lift like serpent's head above the water And naught I'd seen was there before the slaughter I gaze with eyes made cold beneath the sea And surmise that none had come nor sought for me
The violent throes of war I'd not escaped And the eye remaining whole was left to gape So frantic ran the pieces through my mind That when I turned I vowed to leave it all behind.

it's beautiful....and i think it's amazing you allowed art to inspire it. I am sorry you had to feel alone to write something with the beauty this has! As you've read with my poetry....i inspire from my pain or the pain of those around me.....this is dark and beautiful.....good job!
