She was hiding. Crouching down amidst the rocks and grasses and trying to stay as flat as possible…unseen… A little whimper escaped her, an odd sound for a fully grown female, but at the same time, the still-healing claw-marks on her body told her tale louder than words ever could. She had been hurt indeed, by her last encounter…and she was not eager to meet anyone else…not so soon…she needed to get away from this place, before he found her again.
He smelled her before he saw her, did Ayo…he could smell the fear…the scent of female, blood, terror…and it wasn’t at all a pleasant scent when all put together. Moving inquisitively forward, he scented the wind again, raising his head to sniff. Something was there…someone…and she didn’t really want to be found. It was, however, gentleman’s duty to make sure she would be all right. The least he could do was ask. “Hullo? Miss? I know you’re out there…is everything all right?”
There was not but a soft ‘eep’ sound as she ducked down further. He knew she was here! And he was looking for her! This fellow might not be Iar, but he might just be after her all the same. Did she smell like prey? She supposed she did, as terrified as she felt in this moment. Swallowing hard, she considered answering him…and decided against it.
Frowning, Ayo crept closer, knowing exactly where she was after all. Moments later, he was standing over her, concern in green eyes. “I…you don’t look so very good, Miss…is there anything I can do to help?”
With a yelp, she shuffled backwards, slowly rising into a crouch. “N-No…I’ll be all right, don’t need any h-help…” Her once-musical voice seemed all but broken, terror and instinctive fear causing it to shake and tremble. “Really I will…”
”But you’re bleeding…” He countered, taking that step closer. “Surely you could at least let me help you see to those wounds.” Raising one paw out towards her, he tried to be as non-threatening as possible, as he was a rather large lion, and male at that.
“No!” She skittered back several steps, keeping well away from him, her movements painful to watch. “I don’t…don’t need help…I’ll heal on my own, leave me be!” Getting the words out, she shook her head vehemently. No…she wanted no help from a male.
“My name is Ayo’Obi…” He introduced faintly, “I promise…I mean you no harm…aid is all I offer…” Another cajoling sentence, hoping that she would lose that panicked expression and allow him to assist her…gods…what had done that to her?
With a little growl, she bared her teeth at him. “Stay away from me! I don’t care who you are or what you want! Just…just stay far away from me!!!” She looked as though she might turn and bolt at any moment, and truthfully, that was what she wanted to do…but the last time she had fled from a male, he had pursued her, and that was the last thing she needed.
“Shhh…” he hushed soothingly, “I’m not going to come closer if you don’t want me to…I can promise you that…” Shaking his great mane, he sat down on his haunches, tail curling neatly about his toes. “Listen to me, Miss…what reason have I to harm you?”
That…was the wrong thing to say to A’Lora. “He had no reason either…” She snapped, hurt in her wide eyes. “But he hurt me all the same. I trust no longer…not again…no more…” The black and red male from before had made her lose faith in all males…and it would be some time before she regained it again.
Heaving a great sigh, he waved a paw at her. “As you wish…just…if you need any help…do come find me? I’m not exactly hard to spot, and I do offer my assistance in any way necessary.” Best to leave the offer open, just in case she saw reason.
With a distressed sort of sound, she turned and loped off, glancing over her shoulder in a paranoid fashion, as though expecting Ayo to chase her down. Hobbling on one hurt foot, she wasn’t making good time…but she was going to be alone again, and for now…that was what she wanted. There was no one she could trust…not anymore.
With a sigh, Ayo watched her go, a sadness in his green gaze. A shame that such a beautiful female should suffer so…what a dismal fate. Still he wondered how she had become that way…and why…but there was nothing to do about it now…for already…she was fading into the distance.
