I was born an emapth but I didn't learn how to control it till about 3 years ago and will bee 20 in July, so yes, you can control it, but it takes practice.

hmm i also struggle to controme it but i have found that flooding your brain with other stimulations or emotions nullifies negativity.

I use varieties of mediative and folk tricks. I envision a reflective bubble-like shield around me when I'm driving so that I don't absorb everybody else's bad attitudes. It's like the absolute worst in people come out when they get behind the wheel! Other times I have to be careful. My body's equally sensitive, so sometimes I'll get physical aches from physical stimuli (like not eating for several hours). Other times I get it from being around a psychic vampire or someone that has major negativity. But my mind and body always put out a warning before hand, though it's kinda hard to describe the sensation. So I don't really control it. I've just learned how to protect myself. The reason I don't control it is because I work as a negativity nullifier with my friends and family. It has its own rewards.

I have some empathy, if i hold a book i can feel how the whole mood of the book and if it's historical or histroical fiction i will get visions of the book it's very strange. I still need to learn how to control it.

It has its own rewards. hmm i find that using any form of shielding hampers my ability to sense others. Also i tend to shut down most of my cognitive activity whilst driving kind of like entering a 'driving mode' then i sit back and relax in my subconscious, however i find that having my empathy do its little thing whilst i drive has saved my bum many times helping me to feel people where i am not looking and their intentions i.e. changing lanes or turning with no indicator.

Picollo14 well its starting to become less and less now i dont know if it was just depression or not because i only pick up negative feelings....is there any way of picking up just the positive feelings? i have the same problem. best thing i can recommend is to surround yourself with people you like and do fun things to make all the nasties go away. it sounds silly i know. but trust me. i draw power from positive energies and this is directly linked to my empathy. meaning depro drops me down into depro aswell.

My empathic ability is vary bad in my eyes. If someone is mad around me a get the same way, if sad well you get the idea. I tend to stay close to someone that is in a good mood (That being a friend) just so i don't get in a foul mood.

Elderitch Freak My empathic ability is vary bad in my eyes. If someone is mad around me a get the same way, if sad well you get the idea. I tend to stay close to someone that is in a good mood (That being a friend) just so i don't get in a foul mood. i know the feeling. my advice would be to make little 'happy place' basically gather a few really pleasant memories and feelings and every time you feel the foul mood coming along shut down your empathy a bit and focus on your 'happy place'. i know it sounds really funny and retarded but it works. and you don't need to focus long, just enough to sever the empathic connection and shift your emotional state. hope it helps

I don't know I might be an empath, whatever that is, I'm not sure though. Half the things my mom says I know before she says it. Anyway I got depressed to, but I also thought a different way than before. How about this: Think of a word; then think of what it means (consider the whole world, like highway, you gotta think of all the highways on the world something like that)...then keep the feeling you get when you think of that. See if you like the feeling or not. If you don't try another word, by doing that and memorizing it, whenever you're near a person who doesn't have a particularly good soul just think of a word that gives you that good feeling. I really hope that it works for you!

okay, so im an empath and i can feel people's emotions quite strongly. im especially empathic with the people im closest to (e.g. friends and family). my only problem is that my family is one of those that fights a lot. all that negative energy really gets to me, even though i've tried to shield it. so here's my question. is it possible to project emotions as well as receive them? i was thinking maybe if i can get them to calm the frick down i can finally get some peace.

Yes projection is possible. though extremely difficult. you will need to be the very embodiment of tranquility both in mind and soul. then you need to 'radiate' this tranquility with such zeal that it will be felt over the frustration and anger of those fighting. also your own frustration in the situation will make it even harder to accomplish. my advice would be to try and calm them with words. try to find a way to prevent the fighting in the first place. ironically enough doing this would be a form of 'projection'. it is important to remember that most are not aware of things as you are. and you need to reach out to them in a way they will be able to explicitly understand. i hope this helps.
