Without a standard language, how can we hope to communicate our ideas, thoughts, and etc.?
Without structure, how can we have a standard language?
So why is it many fan fiction writers abuse it?
Their lack of grammar, spelling, and characterization gives fan fiction writers as a whole a bad name. I know fan fiction is a hobby since obviously we can't earn any money off of it, but for the love of ramen, at least have a decent grasp of a known language, l33t and txting does NOT count.
If you're going to write in your native language, take the time to spell check it, and if you're going to use another language, please use it sparingly. On a lot of fan fiction websites, I see Japanese as one of the most abused languages for the English fan fictions. I'm not sure about fan fiction written primarily in other languages. Some words can be easily translated into English. Why not use them? I mean not everyone's going to know the translation.
Then there are some words that are roughly translated. When it comes to those words, I'm fine with it, but please for the people who don't know leave at least some notes either at the beginning or end of a story. Any author's notes in the middle of the story tends to detract or interrupt the flow. Pick up a book. Do you see any announcements in the middle of a story? No. Sure, there might be footnotes though they're at the end of the chapter. I think very few might have them in the borders of a page and small writing so it doesn't draw the reader's attention to it.
A typo here and there, I don't mind, because we're all human, and even our betas are human. What a concept; however, if there are going to be like two or three mistakes every other sentence... that's where I draw the line. Obviously, someone doesn't care about how he/she presents his/her story so why should we care about the story? If a writer puts effort into at least the grammar and spelling, it will show. Kudos goes to those who go an extra effort in making the story flow as well as keeping it interesting.
It's quite a shame that many people judge fan fiction writers based on the lazy. Sure, they're a lot of them since it doesn't take much to write one. I believe that all you need are a computer, internet connection, and registration with a web site. Doesn't take a lot.
Some fan fiction writers work hard. Don't judge us based solely upon the mindless drivel of lazy writers... Can they even be called that?
Wow, what a long rant, and that's only on the language. XD Don't get me started about IC, plot, and whatnot.
XD I copied and pasted this rant from a thread. Dun worry, this is one hundred percent Chibi. I happen to like the rant and transferred it here.

Wow... That is one heck of a rant Chibi. Yes, not all fanfiction writes are lazy. However, most are sadly. Fan-girl Japanese should be ened and text talk also. Heck, I can't even read half it. I don't even know what 'O rly' ment until the other day!

=3 I can do much better, given time. XD If I was to go on about all my pet peeves on fan fiction, I bet I can write a paper on it... Like ten or more pages if I elaborate on certain stuff.
That's the sad part. Not everyone conforms to the standard. There are people who actually work hard and create wonderful OCs. Like this one FFVII writer. I luffs her writing even if she uses a lot of OCs; however, she has a good reason. There aren't many OCs during that time period. Plus, her OCs are quite amusing. Like the guy that Angeal threw out of the window.
Txt talk is fine for txting between phones, but when you can type out the word, do it.
Fan girl Japanese is a different story. I only use the words that have a rough translation like youkai and hanyou. For baka, I use idiot or stupid. It translates into English well so why not use English?

Not really mad. It's more like irritated and frustrated especially when it comes to Sues and the mangling of everything canon. Why write fan fiction when the canon characters don't resemble how their creator intended them to be?
XD Sankyuu.

I completely agree with you on the "Jinglish" (Japanese+English). It's just dumb to have a character pick up the phone and say "Moshi moshi" when they could just as easily say "hello?"
Of course, if there's no English equivalent, I understand. But otherwise, just stick to your own language!

*nods* I'm trying to learn Japanese, but I'm not going to flaunt off my mad Japanese skillz. It makes sense to use one language throughout a fic, but sometimes, words don't translate well. Then you have proper names. Those don't count.

Oh, of course not. Names should be kept as are unless it's similar to the Harvest Moon game series, where it's obviously West oriented, so you should translate "Kaarii" to "Karen" (though, this is more of a translation thing, anyway).
Also, though it might seem slightly hypocritical, I've nothing against honorifics.

><# I hate it when people give Western names for Japanese anime especially Naruto. Those Suethor are murdering that series with their fan girl Japanese and Sues.
Not really. Those can't translate well into English.

Any language changes over the course of time, but there comes a point when you say "Stop murdering my language, dammit!"
