The first chord i tried to nail was E major....
I had trouble putting my index finger over all the strings.....every time i tried i muted 2 strings.....then i found a very weird technique....(for me at least)

I simply just move my THUMB FAR BEHIND RIGHT UNDER THE NECK...<__<....for some reason that works....i don't mute anything.....i don't know if everyone does it that way...but it works
Is it worth going through the trouble to learn more barre chords?
I think so...because i saw some tabs where people were playing 6 notes with 4 fingers....and i was wondering ''what the hell was that all about!?'' for awhile...i would have to learn barre chords anyway xp

bar chords are easy once you get the hang of it. God, I forgot what ther called but thers this thing you can put over your finger so that it's easier to slide up and down while still holding down all six.

Well, whichever way is best for you. I just used my thumb normally for the barre chords. And once you get the hang of them, they become actually really fun to play, kind of like a challenge (and they look better). In my opinion, that is. cool

At one time my dad tried to teach me barre chords. No luck. He tried again later when he taught me the riff to "Let Me Roll It". I seem to be using barre chords a lot now. smile

all u need to memorize are the fingering to make things like Major7 and stuff then memorize notes on the e and a strings. Notes that include holding down the low E string are 6th string roots and of course when you dont and only hold down up to the A string its called a 5th string root.

And then everybody died.

My sister is in high school and she can't play barre chords, and she takes lessons. I'm entering 7th grade and I can barre easily, and I don't take lessons, I just read tabs.

Barring isn't difficult once you develop strong fingers, I guess.

Except for me. Idiots.

It's called a slide, but it's not for making bar chords easier. Slides are for playing slide (it's a different style, sort of bluesy).

OP: Your thumb should be in a different position if you are playing bar chords properly. It's easier to learn the right position if you learn on a triangular neck guitar, because your hand is basically forced to switch. Also, c form isn't really that common. You can usually get by alright with E, A, Am, and Em.
