Hakuna'jina - T ` P o i Verge'lian - +Sephrios Immortal+
Orange-amber eyes looked about lazily as their owner enjoyed her kill. Her prey had struggled so wonderfully, it was almost a shame to eat the antelope. But hunger won out over aesthetic, and so the crimson lioness ate. Once she'd had her fill, she sat back to watch the world become covered in shadow. Hakuna'jina saw in the sunset something she was sure no one else did: death. The dying of the light that others treasured and cherished...and the birth of her time. There were always new toys to find in the dark.
The smell of blood drew him first, as that was generally one of the first priorities on his mind. It was a part of his nature, after all. A the end of such a trail, he did not expect to find a lioness, but as soon as he drew near, he knew that she was present. The darkness had come now, the last of the sun's glow a dusky fire over the landscape, and Verge'lian instinctively felt more comfortable. Having a great sigh, he ventured closer. Would she hail him, this one? Or would she attack?
The scent of another caught her attention. Another lion, and male at that. Hakuna stood now, rather than sat. The prospect of another toy made her grin. Her last one had broken too quickly in her opinion. And her sister seemed to have gone into hiding. She trotted forward a couple paces before stopping. "Well...What is such a handsome one doing out at this hour. Don't you know demons rule the dark?" She would play nice...for now. Toys didn't react well to violence at first meeting.
Demons in the dark? Well well... A slow, cold smile crept across his maw. "Demons? Why yes, they do rule the dark...and what enlightened creature do I have the pleasure of meeting?" He tilted his head, eyeing her, fathoming her question and her response. How ironic. She was perfect this one, it would seem...in both mindset and appearance. Sparda and Morifaer alike would be proud.
Hakuna chuckled. She liked this one so far. "I am nothing more than...a reflection, you could say. But if you need a name...Hakuna'jina suites me best." She made a mock bow, amusement in her eyes. This was the point where most ran. Though she certainly hoped this one wouldn't run. No...it was rare she encountered one who knew demons were the proper keepers of darkness.
"And I am Verge'lian...half a soul, half a demon..." He smirked, a chill to the expression, "We are of a kind, I think..." There was an age-old legacy behind him, after all...surely that, if nothing else, might impress her...and as much as he hated to rely on show...rather than personal power...he had been instructed to employ all such aids on his current quests.
The lioness's eyes widened. Finally! Another like her! "Well, Verge'lian. It is certainly a pleasure to meet you! You're the first I've met like me...well, other than my favorite toy." At the thought of her sister, a dark smile graced her muzzle. She looked him over better. "Though you're not at all like my sister...no. She refuses to accept our heritage. You though..." She chuckled. This was perfect. Instead of a toy she'd found another demon spawn! It was her night after all.
Toy, hmm? Well that sounded familiar, or at least it had at one time. Now...Verge was conflicted...torn between two extremes in his life, but he had Sparda...the one guiding influence...father...and demon god of Nobility. But he did miss his brother... "It sounds as though you and I have a sibling problem in common...or at least we did...my brother is dead..." He smiled stiffly, "But it seems that you and I at least have similar purpose to our lives...pray tell, my dear...what drives you?" She would be utterly perfect...in this grand plan of the gods.
A dead sibling? How bored he must have become. Oh well, she almost understood, though she knew her sister was only hiding, and not dead. Driving force...She pondered that for a moment. She'd never truly thought of that before. "Hmmm...What a question..." Though...it was similar to something her sister had asked her long ago. And she realized the answer was the same. "What drives me...is hunger. Hunger to know, hunger to feel, hunger to play, hunger to find my true place, among many other things."
She really did have no idea how boring it was without 'Tani. "Hunger...I still feel a lust for power, and a need to belong somewhere....but I think that the time is coming..." Now it was time to introduce such things. "I'm the son of a god...and there are two gods...the god of our kind, and the god of nobility...my father...who is one like us, but more powerful still. They are forming a pride, Hakuna'jina...a pride for -us-." There was a cool vehemence in his words...for this was the last thing he had left about which he could -feel-.
She almost could not believe her ears. Was he lying to her, or was he telling the truth? Her mind pushed that away. If he was lying, he would pay later. But to hear such things made her blood sing. "Truly...I knew the time would come. My foolish little star would not listen, but I knew it." She shook her head, almost mourning her sister's foolishness. But she would soon enough show her the error. Hakuna looked back up to Verge'lian, cruel smile on her face and her eyes glowing with the dying lights of the night. "Show me the way, and I will follow. And aid the existence of this pride in the ways I can." Finally. That was all she could think now. Finally.
Verge dipped his head, "For now...I only need your loyalty, and I can tell you of our plans. There is another...like me, the envoy of Morifaerion, as I am the envoy of Sparda...the government...the council...is still to be formed... But I would also hear of you, and how you know of what you are, and what your journey has told you, as perhaps it will prove to be of import to what is to come..."
Still in the planning stages. That was fine. At least it was starting to come to fruition. "My journey...heh. I have know what I was since I was a cub. She would whisper in my ear at night, my true mother. Tell me of how my father stole my sister and I away from her once he learned of her true self." She smiled at the long ago memory. "She doesn't whisper to me as often anymore...but I think that is because I'm no longer a cub." Hakuna sat down. "My journeys have taught me that few remember the truth about demons. Most lions have grown soft, or ignorant, and I have met many who dare to venture in the dark without proper respect to it." The thought of the many fools she'd encountered in her life caused a sneer to cross her face. "Foolish things, they'll learn soon..."
Verge was silently delighted that he had found this female before Iar had. That bloody insane fool puppet of Morifaer's. "She speaks to you then, as my father has always spoken to me..." It made sense to him at least, though he had to wonder if this mother of hers was now living or dead...the sister as well...she too might eventually be brought into the fold. But for now...he would settle for her...this intelligent, darkly beautiful creature of a female. "They will indeed learn...and perhaps some shall be brought over to us...but think about it...generations following after us that believe as we do...an entire way of life..."
"Yes. Though it's not so much words as thoughts and pictures..." This male intrigued her. He was something beyond a toy, something that intrigued her greatly. And he was strangely beautiful. Or handsome. She wasn't sure. But she was sure that he was someone to keep an eye on. "Yes...My own cubs were going to be raised to know...but to have others...oh so many others...that is good. Very, very good." She closed her eyes, imagining it as a content smile crept across her face. "Give those who walk in light something to truly fear." She opened her eyes. "As said, I will gladly help in the ways I can. However...have you eaten yet?"
Verge chuckled low in his throat, "Ah, what a legacy we shall have..." Ruffling his mane, his ears pricked at the lioness' question. Food...well...he seemed to have forgotten and forgone that today. "I was actually in pursuit of food when I happened on you...I scent that you've already made your kill this evening." A night hunter, she seemed to be, preferring dusk to dawn, even as he.
"A legacy of hunger and fear and truth." She nodded. "Yes. I was planning to save some for tomorrow night, but I'm willing to share. It's been a long while since I've had good company. Toys shy away from things I want to talk about, and prey doesn't talk except to beg for its life." She motioned to the partially eaten antelope. "It put up quite the struggle. Made me work for my meal. First time in a while. Strength pops up in the most unlikely of creatures."
Verge nodded his sagely agreement to her words, slowly padding over to nose at the dead creature before ripping off a piece with his jaws. "Strength comes in many forms...as does wisdom. Those that lack strength had best have the latter, or they shall wind up dead surely. One or the other is needed, both is preferred. Like those of us who know the truth." Flinty blue eyes glanced her way again. Yes...he was rather pleased with her, this creature of shadow and blood laced with gold.
Hakuna sat by as he ate, a look of agreement on her face. "Yes. Dead, or worse." She smiled. Usually, for those she met who lacked both, she was the 'or worse'. She actually quite enjoyed being that second option...though those who had just strength or wisdom made the best toys. They lasted longer. "So...have you found others like us? Or any who might prove useful?" Even if their kind was few...there were surely many who could prove useful...those who could keep their eyes open in other prides, or those who would make good stock...
He chewed on a piece of meet for a few moments, swallowed, and then nodded in answer to her question. "A couple of others. A dark lion by the name of Mor'faerion...a b*****d son of the other god...and Iaar...the chosen of Morifaer, even as I do as Sparda bids until such time as he deems fit." A grim smile came across his face. "But soon enough...there shall be more. More shall be found and more shall be born."
"Hmmm..." Mostly males so far. She seemed to be the only female currently...She'd have to help change that. She kneaded the ground below with her front paws, contemplating. "It would seem I shall have to start paying closer attention to those I come across now. Wouldn't want to make a toy out of one who doesn't know the truth of their blood yet." She had never been much of one for details when it came to others...but for this cause, oh she would do nearly anything. Her cruel smile returned. "Such wonderful prospects...Maybe my sister's belief in fate is not so misguided after all." It could not have been mere coincidence that brought the strangely handsome lion to her part of the savannah.
"Fate is a part of what we are. Fate and destiny have chosen us...not only to be possessed of demonic blood, but have foretold this meeting." Verge chuckled, an almost purr-like sound low in his throat. "This sister of yours is likely only deluding herself, mayhap forestalling the inevitable. Ignorance is weakness, and knowledge is power...and power...is of the utmost value to what we are, and what we shall become." Ah, but this talk did make his blood race. Soon would come the time, when there would be more at his command, and at the command of his father...and once more...the demons would rule.
Hakuna laughed. "Yes...Right now she is a weak thing. Convinced we're normal lions. Once I find her again...she'll learn denial of her true self is futile and foolish." She let a rumbling purr form in her throat. "And if she does not learn at that point...I'll wait until she has cubs, then rid the bloodline of her weakness and raise the cubs with truth." Most would have been disturbed by the content smile on her mouth, tail lazily twitching on the ground. "I will not tolerate weakness in any related to me. She's lucky I've humored her so long."
Verge nodded slowly, "A wise plan, yes..." He would not confide in her that his own emotions often got the best of him...or had once, where his brother was concerned. That was the trouble of being a creature only half demon...it was frustrating, to find that such very mortal emotions interfered with cold logic. But gods did he miss 'Tani sometimes. "And somehow I doubt you will waver from it, should the time come."
Hakuna felt a bit of pride swell in her, that the other held a sort of faith in her determination. She loved her sister, yes, in her own twisted way...but in the lioness' mind, the truth of her blood held out over that love. Besides...if their mother truly thought her sister valuable, she would rebirth her. "Once you are finished, would you care to walk with me? The night is young, and there are many who get lost this time of night. I'm certain they could use a lesson...or guidance."
"I would find that most pleasant, Hakuna..." He took the slight liberty of shortening her name, supposing that that would be all right, all things considered, and quite swiftly did he finish up his dinner, rising once he was sated, and glancing over at her, a silent query, though he knew she was ready. She was indeed a fine demon this one, and further time spent with her would definitely not go astray...
The lioness stood and took a place beside Verge, the gears in her head working as she smiled at him, then started to walk away from what was left of the antelope. She would stay close to this one for now. Perhaps for a while, she did not know yet. But she was sure of one thing...he was near pefect for what she wanted, and she would not let the opportunity pass her by. "Let us see what we can find, Verge."

Hakuna'jina - T ` P o i Aseniki - +Sephiros Immortal+
Ah bloody...another wondrously hot day on the Savannah, and as per usual, Aseniki was utterly miserable. This was not her day, nor was any other, as the little cheetah felt it her duty to criticize the world around her as to why it should be her day. Stepping out from under the shade of the tree she'd been sleeping under, she made a disgusted face at the warmth of the dust under her paws, and scuffed at it, causing it to fly, before ambling into the sun. Gah...more of the same 'ol same 'ol...
She hated traveling during the day. Hated it. But sometimes, it needed to be done. This was one of those days. And so Hakuna'jina had found herself trotting under the hot sun of the savannah, complaining to herself loud enough for those close to hear. "Vile heat. Vile bright light and sunshine...vile dust." At that last bit, she sneezed. That was exactly why she hated dust. Her tail trashed as she made no effort to be quiet. Let the creatures run in fear. She had no patience to deal with anything that ran today.
Aseniki had heard the words, and the sneeze. Paddering closer, as the young creature was fearless, she smirked faintly, "It's really a pain, isn't it, lady?" She inquired, though she already knew the answer. "Gotta hate this weather...but it never stops...you'd think we could give the Savannah a dose of sense. Horrid stuff..." Ah, she really didn't know what she'd stumbled into, knowing little of danger...to her, there was no danger save that which she could carry herself away from with long legs and swift paws.
Hakuna looked to the young cheetah, orange-amber eyes a little less angry now. It would seem the day wasn't so bad after all, to have a toy walk right up to her. "Yes...Very horrid stuff. But, the savannah doesn't listen to sense. Only power. Which that vile bright ball has." She looked the other up and down, the wheels turning in her twisted mind. Hakuna would...observe a little longer, then decide what to do with the younger feline.
Aseniki shrugged one lean shoulder. "I suppose. I never really thought of the sun as having power, just heat....and that's quite enough." Sitting down on her haunches, her tail curled about her, the end twitching faintly. "Though I agree about the sense bit. Half the creatures living out here are utterly deranged." There wasn't exactly trust in the young cheetah's eyes. She was -always- prepared to bolt...as running her mouth got her in trouble more often than not. It was all a game to her.
Well...a bright thing, the cheetah was. Hakuna seemed to be encoutnering rarities quite a bit lately. "Yes...Most of them have no concept of what's good or bad for them. I would almost think you one of them, if you weren't such a bright one." The crimson lioness looked around. "Perhaps, though, it would be wise of us to find some shade, lest we become one of those deranged creatures." Whether or not this one would prove entertaining, Hakuna wanted out of the sun. She honestly did feel far too hot. How did the day cratures stand it?!
A snort was the reply to that. "Oh sure...us females, fainting flowers and all that...sounds spiffy...I certainly don't want to bake and take leave of my senses. I saw a grown lion chasing his tail the other day..." Rising once more, Aseniki lazily began to pad to where she knew there was a cluster of three or for scraggly trees. Not much, but definitely enough shade for two large felines such as themselves.
Hakuna laughed as she followed the cheetah. "The last male who thought that of me found himself quite bloody when he woke up again." And the thought of a lion chasing his tail...oh she would have to see if she could recreate that another time! "So...what is your name, little one?" Not that Hakuna would remember it beyond today. But while she was pretending to be nice, might as well pretend to be polite.
Those comments inspired a sly grin on the part of the cheetah, as though she had some secret for the both of them. "Ah, so you gave him what-for, huh? I can't wait till I'm big enough to do that instead of run like the Dark Gods are after my hide." Flicking her ears at the lioness, she chuckled low in her throat. "I'm Aseniki...my mother named me after a poison, for the barbs on my tongue." She seemed rather proud of that statement.
"A poison? Quite a fitting name, then." A mysterious smile reached Hakuna's muzzle. "I am Hakuna'jina. Why I have that name...well, it shall stay secret for now." She chuckled. "Often males can be quite the...pathetic lot. Thinking their size and , in the case of lions, great manes make them lords. But females can be just as pathetic. Weakness does not discriminate genders or races. After all...elephants are scared of mice." An interesting toy this one was turning out to be.
The juve female laughed aloud, pleased by this lioness somehow. "Bah! How well do I know that this is true. My mother herself was a weak creature, snivelling over her hatred for my father, whilst doing nothing about it save to abandon the cubs as soon as we were old enough to fend for ourselves. Bloody useless, that...she probably died out here in the heat, and good riddance." Spiteful, she was yes. "But I'm not her..." There was a little growl, and her hackles rose.
Well...how interesting indeed. "My father was weak, and so was the lioness he claimed was my mother. Once they outlived their usefulness..." She grinned. "They had a most unfortunate accident. Messed with the wrong gnu." Oh how she had enjoyed that show. And her foolish sister still hated her for it, last she knew. "But hate can be a useful emotion, if acted upon. Otherwise...yes, it turns you into something weak."
"Ah...can't say that was unfortunate then, can we?" She snickered to herself. "I suppose emotions should be employed, yes...made useful. Or else you become like my mum...hateful and bitter and nothing but a stupid lump of flesh with nothing better to do than whine and moan all day." Raising her head, she blinked out into the distance. "Aaah...there's our shade..." Loping forward, the cheetah made a beeline for the trees.
Hakuna nodded. Oh yes, Aseniki fit the juvenile perfectly. Such a birlliantly wicked mind under those spots. She followed at a less hurried pace, not wishing to look desperate for shade. Any other animals watching might get the wrong idea about her. Once she'd caught up to the other, she stretched. "It crossed my mind...you've either gotten very good at hunting, or scavenging from others. I'm curious as to which it is."
Sitting down beneath the trees, Aseniki chortled delightedly. "A bit of both, to tell true. But lately, I just snitch. It's more fun. The fastest survive in my world...and there's nothing more satisfying than stealing someone's dinner while they're watching you...and they finding themselves too slow to do anything about it. Lazy bastards..." It was their own fault, in her humble opinion. "Though I can hunt as well...I just haven't had to."
Hakuna chuckled as she sat. "I rather like catching my own prey. More satisfying, in my own opinion, and it's certainly entertaining to watch little ones like you try to steal from me." She smiled coldly at the young cheetah. "Though you may be fast, if you aren't careful, one day you'll meet a creature who can grab you in the split second before you take off. And I can guarantee most creatures in these lands would kill or maim you for stealing sooner than let you go."
"Lady, I wouldn't steal from you if you paid me. I know how to pick my meals." She rolled her eyes, "I don't steal from just anyone, ya see...I don't want to end up dead. I'm no coward, but I'm not stupid either. I can hunt on my own too...if I have to..." She curled up then, lazily lying in the dust, tail flicking idly.
Hakuna chuckled. A smart one indeed. And with such potentional. Maybe it would be in her better interests to leave that coat unstained...for now. The strange lioness thought about that as she looked around. It would certainly be interesting to see what this sharp little one would turn out to be. She chuckled at that thought. Perhaps she would make a good ally, rather than a temporary toy. "Do you stay in this area, Aseniki...or do you travel?"
"I come and go as I please, mostly." Came the reply, a slight smile on her maw. "Doesn't pay to stay in a single place if you steal for your food, y'see." Someone might hunt her down, looking for revenge. If nothing else, Aseniki had a keen mind in her head. "And you, miss? Do you travel the lands then?"
Hakuna nodded. "At the moment yes. But...I may soon settle down. For a short time, at least." She grinned at the thought of the pride she would be part of. "After the death of my father, I saw no reason to stay where we had been, and I've seen no reason to stay where a large group could easily find me. Of course...sometimes it pays to stay in one place for short periods of time."
She seemed to consider that a moment, before she concurred. "Ah, I suppose there are benefits to such a thing. Though don't ask me what they be, as I've known little of'em. I won't be totally convinced until its been proven...I take very little on faith, yanno...keeps me from being dead." The same way she did not totally trust this lioness.
"But of course. And I would not try to convince you now. It is one of those things better experienced than told." She yawned, shaking her head. She truly was not used to being up this time of day. "And speaking of staying in one place, it would seem my body wishes to rebel against my wish to stay awake."
She waved a paw, "Then take a nap, I'll be around. I haven't stolen anything lately, and I might catch a rabbit to munch. But I c'n tell yer keen on finishing this convo, so I won't completely high-tail it...I figure it's probably in my best interest...and this shade is the last for a while...I've been this way a'fore."
Hakuna just smiled and lay down. "So be it. You're an interesting little cheetah." She could always bat the little spotty around later if she proved to be too annoying. If the cheetah stayed around that long. One never knew with creatures that ran so quickly to live...
She smirked, "So they tell me." With that, she trotted off to let the lioness sleep for a while. Odd one, that female, but Aseniki had to admit she kinda liked her...as nasty a lass as she could tell the other had a tendency to be at times. Heh...mayhap it was something they had in common.

Hakuna'jina - T ` P o i Ochieng - Manchu the Panda
Ochieng was exercising his youthful curiosity in the cool morning, doing everything from sticking his nose into a termite mound to attempting to scale a tree like he had seen so many adult leopards do with prey. However, his lack of experience made it very awkward for the young cub, and he struggled to dig his claws into the bark of an old tree. Slipping down, he stared at it with a cocked head. Perhaps there was some other way of tackling this problem.
Hakuna trotted through the morning, heading to the place she'd slept the day before. Night had ended, and it had been a good one. Since the sun wasn't fully up yet, its heat didn't sorch her, so the crimson lioness had only the growing light to complain about. She stopped suddenly, nose catching a scent that hadn't been there in the night. Curious, she stalked towards it and smiled when she saw the white cub. Well well...Perfect.
Ochieng was blissfully unaware that his adventures had made him a point of interest for the lioness, and frowning, he circled the tree, looking for perhaps a better foothold, though he wouldn't know what to do with it once it was found. On his turn, he happened to spy the flame-colored female, and with a sharp intake of breath, froze. Perhaps he would actually need to put his unlearned skill to use.
Good. He'd seen her. She smiled and took a few steps forward. "Now what have we here...A little leopard not up in a tree? One would think you couldn't climb..." She looked up to the tree, seemingly in thought...then shook her head, smiling back at the little one, though the smile held something else..."No...That couldn't be. All leopards can."
"I-I can too!" He shouted at her, hugging himself close to the tree like his absent mother. "This tree just isn't good for climbing!" He muttered, though the worn claw marks up its base and the bones and hide still clinging to its canopy attested to the constant use of it by other leopards. He cast his eyes down warily, and his tail flicked anxiously.
"Really? You see...I've never seen a leopard climb a tree before...And I always hear leopards on my journies boasting of the unclimbable trees they've scaled..." She was lying through her teeth, and she knew it...but the little one wouldn't. She had made herself look genuinely curious. "I would love if you showed your climbing skills...but you don't have to if you think the tree is unsuitable..."
Ochi's ear flicked nervously. He wanted more than anything to prove himself, to this female or the world, it didn't matter. He gritted his teeth and clawed the soil in agitation, bracing himself to give it another try, when a thought struck him. "Miss, h-have you perhaps seen a lady leopard that resembles me?" His voice wavered slightly, curious to no end in the event that perhaps this lioness had come across his mother, or perhaps a distant relative.
Well! Hakuna wasn't expecting that! But...she could work with it. She looked in thought for a moment, one claw scratching her chin. "Hmmm...I've seen a few white leopardesses. Perhaps one or two with markings like yours. I've been travelling for a long time, so it's hard to say at times..." She looked down at him with a smile that did not reach her eyes. "Lost your parents?"
Ochieng's ears perked with false hope, his eyes searching hers intently. "Really!? What about male leopards? Where they close? Did they say anything about cubs?" His heart was pained by this information, then when she posed her question, the light in his eyes faded, and his head dropped. "Well, we lost each other, I guess you could say." A choked mixture of a sigh and a sniffle could be heard, and his shoulders jerked.
"I'm afraid I've not seen any male leopards like yourself. And...I did not hear anything about cubs." She sounded apologetic, but was not. This little one was obviously doing well enough on its own, lest it would have died already. "I'm sure there's a good reason for you to have gotten seperated." She lightly patted him on the head with a large paw.
Ochi's head bobbed with the pat, and he looked meekly up at her with his sunset-pink eyes. "Nothing.....?" He sighed, and resumed his through examination of a pebble at his feet. "I just....Want to see her...." His voice was strained and cracking as he continued, "I can't even remember what she looks like, or if I had brothers or sisters...."
Siblings...she scoffed as the thought of her own sister popped into her head. "You may have been seperated from them because you were strong and they were weak. It is because of weakness that prides fall and crumble, that families fall apart, the bloodlines and truth are lost." She sighed, then shook her head. "My own parents were weak, leaving my sister and I to learn to hunt early on in order to get enough food, father always deferring to the lioness who called herself my mother despite his physical strength, and forgetting one very important thing about the night. You see...they forgot that demons exist within the darkness, and they paid dearly for it."
Ochieng's brows furrowed. The rest of his family weak? The memories of being held close to warmth, of a full belly at all times and soft wriggling on both sides were comforting, not weak. He couldn't wrap his mind around the images her words painted. Leaving on purpose? Demons of the night. The thoughts made him shudder as he looked at the towering lioness that had earned being strong, and it made her fearsome.
Hakuna looked to the sky, frowning. The sun was growing higher, and if she didn't retreat soon, she'd have to go through another bought of being too hot. She hated the heat the sun brought. She looked back down to the little leopard, a cold grin on her muzzle. Her next words were said in a low, almost eerie voice. "I must depart now. But remember this...hope you never cross paths with the lioness of no name again. And always remember that demons lurk in the dark." With that, she trotted off, satisfied at the squirming she'd caused.
With the same expression frozen on his face, Ochieng pouted and sat, contemplating her final words. If they were to cross paths once more, he must ask for her name, and hope she wasn't one of the demons of the dark. Sighing, and trying to brush off the encounter, the silly little leopard cub resumed his tree climbing, now determined more than ever to succed.

Hakuna'jina - T ` P o i Verge'lian - +Sephrios Immortal+
Hakuna never thought she'd enjoy teaching and being a mother so much. It just...was odd. Back when she'd first met Verge, she had just wanted cubs to raise 'properly', according to her demonic blood. That first try didn't go so well. She'd just started really connecting with Nyota and Zika again, and her other three sons...The lioness sighed and stood to stretch out in her den. This time, however....this time, she was starting to get it right. Teaching her little ones as they should learn. And without the pressure of being a Tirma'eth or the little ones being 'royal'. She'd loved her first litter, in her own twisted way...but there'd been too many things all at once for her to do well with them. Of course, that train of though brought her to thinking of their father. The one male who had grabbed her attention, held it fast, and wriggled into her heart without realizing it. And he likely never would. Hakuna would forever be the quiet supporter at his side...a confidant and ally. She refused to mess that up. Hakuna trotted out of her den, towards Verge's den. It had been a long while since she'd seen him, and something told her it might be a good idea to go visit.
Verge'lian was currently curled up in his own den in a pile of feline sluggishness. His tail-tip was draped over his nose, and there was a little whuffle with each exhale. Things were about to change in this pride of theirs...though he wasn't sure entirely what all those changes might entail. However, he knew that it would be for the better. It had to be.
Just behind him was another lion. An odd occurence, as Verge usually tended to keep to himself, liking his privacy more than anything else. Even odder, was that the other occupant of the Aran'shale's den was male. A large lion (perhaps even a bit larger than Verge himself), whose coat was a striking shade of red. Though the stranger didn't stir upon Hakuna's approach, Verge'lian did, yawning softly, his eyes blinking blearily as though confused as to what had brought him back to the waking world. Taking a sniff of the air, he then smile faintly. Ah...a familiar visitor, though it had been some time since he'd seen her.
Hakuna frowned at an unfamiliar scent as she approached Verge's den, then blinked at the other form that was in his den. How...odd. She'd never really seen him with company inside his den. Certainly not male. She stayed at the entrance to the den, head bowed a bit. Once Verge was awake, she smiled slightly and spoke. "Mind if I come in? Or...would another time be better for a visit?" She had no idea who the male was...but Hakuna knew Verge wouldn't let anyone near him who would hurt him. Not in his own den.
Smiling back at her, he rumbled softly, shifting carefully into a slightly more upright position. "Come in, please..." A fond look was tossed over one massive shoulder to the male beyond, "He sleeps like the very stones, always has..." Some things never changed, despite the passing of time. Turning his attention back to the lioness, he continued, "I apologize for not greeting you properly, Hakuna..." But then again, he'd not like to risk waking his twin for loss of warmth.
Hakuna trotted in, curious at his phrasing. "That's alright, Verge. You look comfortable." Wasn't often she got to see her Aran'shale like that. In fact...she'd never seen him quite so comfortable. "Is he an old friend?" That was the only thing she could think of. But...wouldn't an old friend have found this place before now? Things just kept becoming curiouser and curiouser.
He shook his head at that, laughter twitching at the edges of his maw. "No...not quite. He is Telemakhos..." Another one of those affectionate looks interrupted the introduction, "And he is my brother, my only brother...my twin." They'd been estranged for so long...Verge'lian having throught that he'd killed the one person he would have gone to hell and back for. To find it quite otherwise was the most blessed thing that had ever happened in the Aran'shale's life.
Hakuna had, for once in her life, a rather...dumbstruck look. Wasn't his twin...Well, obviously not, apparently! The Sinta'hare sat not far from the twins, her look changing to a smile she rarely got...something that hinted to what she'd been before her demon had called to her. "That's wonderful!" She made sure to keep her voice from getting too loud. No need to wake the new arrival. At least...Hakuna hoped he'd be staying, for Verge's sake. "It is good to see one of us still has a chance." She and Moto...they could never repair the rift they had now, not until death.
His ears swiveled attentively to her at that, and then he shook his head, "I've...come to think that perhaps there is no such thing as an impossibility. If...he can forgive me everything, then nothing is beyond my grasp." Stretching forepaws out in front of him at that, he smirked faintly, "And I think he will be most pleased to meet you whenever he awakens. Which may not be for a while yet. He'll be rather astonished to learn that I actually have found friends I can tolerate..."
Hakuna was silent a moment, as if contemplating. She remembered her last words to her sister...Would they ever meet again, in a way Hakuna where could take those words back? Then she chuckled, slight smile returning. "I am glad to see you happy, Verge." He deserved it. "I would certainly like to meet him awake as well." She chuckled. Meet the lion who could put real happiness in her Aran'shale.
Verge'lian was aware of Hakuna's story, not as acutely as he was of his own, but he knew that grief lay between she and her sister even as it had between 'Te and himself. "Thank you...your well-wishes have meant much to me." Doing a bit of a double-take then, he shook his head, "And my manners seem to have left me. Was there something you wanted? It has been some time since you've sought me...the little ones keeping you busy?"
Hakuna shook her head. "I...just wanted to visit with you again. It's been so long." In a way, she missed the days when they were rogues, traveling to the lands. She was almost always by his side then. "They have been. Ellie especially. She's....so odd. A good daughter, but odd." She loved Ellie, but there was just something off about the black and yellow juvenile. Like she still had something Hakuna had lost long ago. "I've been trying to reforge ties with at least some of our brood. So far, I've only had success with Nyota and Zika." The others...were harder to get a hold of.
Verge made a rumbling sound of acknowledgement, putting his chin on crossed paws. "Well...mayhap I will be able to help you with that...Amin and Usare will certainly not object to growing close to their mother once more. I...cannot say much about Drathir, for...he has grown distant, and I daresay that he hates me now. A mishap on my own part, a misunderstanding...and simple words will not clear it up." Eyes lidding, the large male shook his head slightly. "I am glad that your children are well...such charming little ones, as much as wee demons can be." So strange, the things that he loved about this pride of his.
It....was good to know two more of her young were within reach! But Drathir...he had grown distant. Nigh unreachable. It made her rather sad. "Perhaps, one day, we can right the wrongs we've committed." Like the wrong she'd done Mvua. Her loyal little Na'artue...she'd stolen her for all the wrong reasons. She knew that now. She smiled at Verge's praise of her little ones. "I hope...to be able to be a mother again, after them. It was odd, the period of time between my current litter and our own. So...quiet. And I think this pride seems to do better when there are little ones about. Perhaps because everyone wants to do their best to be a good role model?"
"Children have the capability of bringing out both the best and worst in us..." He murmured thoughtfully, eyes half-lidded as his gaze fixated halfway between Hakuna and absolutely nothing at all. "But it seems to be the best, more often than not, something that I am intensely greatful for. They cause our pride to flourish. I am not particularly good with cubs, I will admit...but even I would not mind more...of my own. I would not raise them alone, that much I am confident in." He had Te here, after all, and he knew that now Hakuna would be mentor to any offspring that should occur, in that...nigh-impossible probability.
Hakuna blinked. Verge wanted more cubs? She never would have thought he'd want more. He was just surprising her left and right tonight. She nodded. "They do seem to bring out the best more often than the worse among us. Perhaps...it is because we are the way we are? It's hard to bring out anything darker in us." Hakuna had no qualms about admitting what she was. They were dark creatures, and they always would be. Even their own cubs started with a spark of light that was quickly lost in the hellfires. She wanted to say something else but...she did not want to push her luck.
Inclining his head in silent agreement, silvery mane moving forward to fall into his eyes for half a moment, he then glanced upwards at her, a serene sort of expression fixed upon his features. "That would make a strange sort of sense, now wouldn't it?" They were like gemstones, in a way...children...needing to be polished to truly shine, and yet worth all of the effort. Yawning again softly, he seemed truly content. "I fear I am weary yet, Hakuna...if you have no pressing matters to attend to...would you like to join us? There is room yet." And something was terribly comforting about the nearness of familiar, friendly bodies.
"Strange sense is about all we find in our lives, I've noticed." It was likely all they'd ever find. But she did not mind at all. As long as she was home and by the side of those she cared for. "If you don't mind Verge...I would certainly like to join you." The crimson lioness shifted and moved to lay beside Verge. "It's been a long time since we shared den space beyond talking." A simple observance from her, and nothing more (she hoped).
Verge actually snorted in amusement at that, nudging her playfully with his nose as she situated herself. "Indeed it has, my dear Hakuna. A good long while...mayhap too long...but it is something to dwell on when my brain is more fully awakened." And when Te might sit in on the matter. Nothing would be decided without his twin's input, not anymore. Resting head upon paws again, the Aran'shale yawned, blue eyes lidding...for once, rest could be peaceful, and dreams devoid of shadow and terrors.
Hakuna simply nodded, content to be near him again. And the presence of the other male in the den was oddly comforting as well...perhaps because he was the source of Verge's new happiness? "Sleep well, Verge." She herself wasn't tired...but she lay there anyways, forever the watchful guard. No one would disturb them, she'd make sure of it. Not until Verge and his twin were ready to wake and face the waking world once more.
