It was cool night as the wind swept through a slight clearing in the woods. The trees crackled and moved ominously as the wind danced among their branches. A pale figure stood beneath the leafless canopy. It was a beautiful night for him, since he was finally able to sate his thirst. He stood like a solid granite statue as he savored every drop of the small hare he was feeding off of. His eyes were closed blissfully as he indulged in the very act he had been longing for. The blood, ironically, was like life to him. It restored and rejuvenated him. The past few days dragged on forever it seemed, each day causing him to grow more and more obsessed as his thirst grew. Finally he was able to indulge, to give into the inner beast within, and drink.

Caine knew who that familiar scent belonged to and he didn't like it. It was one thing to have a random stallion encroaching on his territory, because that could be passed off on sheer stupidity but his brother? The pale stallion found himself wondering if it was a coincidence or intentional. "I find myself curious about this brother of yours", a voice came from behind. Within seconds a white wolf came out of the shadows and began walking alongside the larger creature. "You've only ever mentioned him in passing, I take it you weren't very close?" "You have no idea, Malkav," Caine muttered dryly. It wasn't that he hated his brother. The two had enough similarities and things in common, you'd think they'd get along. To be honest, he wasn't sure why they hadn't. Perhaps they were simply too competitive? Of course, that was a long time ago, perhaps things changed. The stallion found himself looking at the moon. He loved how eerily it glowed at night. It was the best time to be out and about. Perhaps he was growing a bit soft but he loved how hauntingly beautiful the woods looked tonight. Every sound seemed to intensify the experience. It was something that would put fear into most soquili, forcing them to watch their back and be careful with every step. For Caine though, it gave him a feeling of being home.

Louie turned his head as he heard another stallion approaching. He turned from the dead animal carcass on the ground beneath him, and saw a familiar pale form similar to himself, Caine. Furthering his examination, Louie also noticed a smaller white figure walking along with his brother. "Oh? What's this?"
He stepped forward, and moved closer towards the two. He stood strong, standing his ground. He wasn't entirely sure why, but there was an invisible wall of pride between the two. They were born so similar, so it was difficult for the two to get along. "I see you've acquired a... pet in the time I've been away. I almost forgot to ask, how did you manage without me, brother?" Although Louie was the younger of the two, he certainly did not think anything less of himself.
Louie tossed his head to the side for a moment, clearing his hair from obscuring his vision. A drop of blood flew off of his chin as he did this, causing him to remember just what he was doing out here. "I hope you don't mind me feeding out here, brother." He couldn't help but to speak without inserting a slight bit of sarcasm into his tone.

Malkav growled and made to lunge at Louie but stopped when Caine stomped one of his hooves at the ground. "You will treat Malkav with the same respect you wish to be treated, brother. He is more family to me any real family of mine." Perhaps the words were cold but that didn't make them any less true. He had found not only a friend in the wolf but a kindred companion. Someone that understood him and accepted him for what he was. He never felt like a monster around him.
"I suppose I'm to believe your choice of hunting grounds was not intentional?" he asked back, his voice dripping with equal sarcasm. "Missed me that much, did you? Wow, I didn't know you cared." His eyes rolled as he talked but he kept his body ready for a possible attack. Brother or not, there was no telling how this encounter would turn out.
Malkav could only stand silently. He wasn't sure what he had been expecting at the prospect of meeting Caine's brother, but this certainly wasn't it. The fact he was insulted early gave him a horrible first impression. All he needed was a nod in his direction and he'd have no problem attacking that arrogant creature a few paces away. It was unfortunate that the nod didn't seem to be coming.

Louie sighed out of exasperation, his older brother could be such a pain sometimes. It was almost humorous to see that Caine had found a little friend. He seemed to always be so rough around the edges and unfriendly that it seemed impossible for him to ever find any sort of companion. Louie smirked at the thought of it all. Caine was the one who was more dedicated to feeding on smaller animals, not other horses like themselves, but yet he had such a hard time with others. "Oh... how interesting." If Louie's heart still beat, it might have been hurt by the fact that Caine called the little pet more family than himself.
"No, my choice of hunting grounds was entirely intentional. I decided that I'm going to try to be like you. To feed off of things that aren't... like us. I'm going to try to become more 'normal'. When you've been undead as long as us, it gets somewhat boring, and brother you should know this. I want to play a game. I want to see if they will see me as one of their own."

"Do you think that's how they look at me?" the elder brother asked before breaking out in laughter. "Do you think they see me as normal? That I'm any more accepted because I feed on animals instead of them? How precious." His voice trailed off into sarcasm. "I do wish you the best trying to fit in and be normal. Do let me know what that feels like if you ever find it. As for this land, it's certainly big enough to share with my little brother, as long as you stay your distance. I am not interested in any family reunions."
Though he wouldn't admit it, a part of him was pleased to see his brother. Just to know that he was all right. Though they did not see eye to eye, they were similar all the same. A rare breed of unicorn. His brother was the one most likely to get killed too, since he chose to arrogantly feed off other soquili. It was always just a matter of time before someone sought out revenge for a lost loved one. Perhaps feeding off animals would do his little brother some good. He was the only real family they had left.. the others had died or were simply never found again since the massacre.

Louie became a bit angry with his brother, and just how quick he was to come to his own quick conclusions. He couldn't really blame him entirely though, because they were so much alike. "Brother, we will never be one of them, and believe me I know nothing can change that. However, how we view them I do believe could change how they view us. See, if I began to look at them as something other than prey, than they might be able to look into my eyes and see not a predator, but rather something with a dark past..." His voice trailed off as he figured there was no point in rambling.
Louie began to walk around a bit, and observe the vastness of the land his brother resided on. In a slightly sarcastic tone Louie spoke back, "I appreciate the warm hospitality, brother. It'd be difficult for me to find such a land of my own." He looked back at his brother with a slightly insane look in his eyes. "Knowing me, I'd probably grow frustrated and return to my old ways."
There was always a certain curiosity about Louie when meeting his brother. Their meetings were few, but Louie was oddly pleased to have them. "Brother, have you found anymore? Anymore like us?" It was always a question Louie felt compelled to ask. For as vast as the world was that they lived in it was impossible that they were the only ones of their kind.

"Do as you want," he shrugged. If Louie wanted to kiss a** in hopes to have his own a** kissed, he wouldn't stop him. In fact, it would be fun to watch.. from a distance. He didn't want anything to do with those not like himself. It was a waste of time as he had found out the few times he had stumbled upon others. They would never understand and never accept. The most his brother could probably hope for is their ignorance.
Caine laughed. His brother could act as haughty as he pleased but it was always all show for Louie. Let him claim some of the land. Let him roam free and do what he pleased. "Knowing you, you'll give up and go back to your old ways," he corrected.
"I hear talk at times of others being similar to us. I do not know if there's any truth to it. Of course, if there is truth to it, it will surely give you hope. I hear of some breeding and starting families, living a normal life with those not like us. I hear a lot of things in these woods and you will too if you decide to stay. Gossip has a way of getting into your ear whether you want it to or not. I have never been interested enough to seek out which is fact or fiction. I really don't give a rats a**." Caine nodded to Malkav and the to turned to make their leave.
"Welcome to the land, brother." It would be interesting indeed to see if Louie would find whatever it was he was really looking for.
