Darkness, a bleak, black world with no escape and no end... she was trapped... or at least she felt like she was. There were trees in front of her, trees behind her and trees overtop of her. The area itself wasn't completely dark, just darker than the world outside of the forest but what really bothered her were the shadows weaving in and out of the trees. Ears flicked back and forth, brown eyes darted to and fro, she was worried. Never had she gotten over her fear of the dark, she always felt so lost when she was faced with a darkening sky. Cloudy days were one thing, but when the sun was blocked out or fading from the sky, the mare was nervous and very different from her usual self.
Flicking hair out of her eyes, she sighed, counting slowly as she stared at the ground, watching her hooves as she moved. It had been decided that if she didn't look around and tried to block out the frightening noises she wouldn't be as scared by them! Like most things, this was easier said than done, for the mares ears caught every noise, her eyes saw the changing of the light off to her side and before she knew it, her head was back up in the air again. Taking a quick glance around to see that nothing was close to her, Vieno started to back up, eventually bumping into a nearby tree trunk. Of course, this startled her and caused her to jump away quickly, breath caught in her throat. Boy was she in trouble.
Most anyone that knew the mare's sweet, fearless, personality would have swore this wasn't her. Vieno, jumping around like a flighty filly from simple shadows and sounds from the forest? Impossible. She was supposed to be the one who worried about everyone else and never herself! Well, that was all good and wonderful when she wasn't stuck, drowning in obscurity. This mare had an obvious weakness, her fear of the dark.
She couldn't explain it, it felt thick, opague, as if it was going to swallow her whole. Unable to calm herself, the mare closed her eyes in a last attempt at clearing her head. Noises in the forest surrounded her... things were creeping up on her at that very moment... she just knew it...

Huojin was walking comfortably on a steady trail when he spotted the strange mare. She was bouncing around, back and forth, and the stallion was raising a brow at her hideous actions. What the heck was she doing? And WHY was she so jumpy at everything? Huojin just stood and stared, before finally pondering the idea of approaching the creature. Did he want to waste his time with some crazy female? He had to admit, AT LEAST she was attractive. If she was ugly, he would have kept walking with a smirk of laughter. But she had beauty, and he could give her that credit! But her mind seemed strange, and he only sighed while walking closer to the gal.
"Um, are you alright?" he then said, in a unfriendly tone. His voice was not comforting, and if anything, he was belittling the mare! "You seem freaked out for some reason.. is someone following you?" Gosh, that would suck. Not for her, but for him. If someone was following the mare, then he would get dragged into some stupid situation! With a grunt, the stallion lazily leaned himself next to a tree, before pondering what else he wanted to ask this mare.
"If someone's following you, I don't want to be involved. So don't lie. I'm not a prince or anything." Hmph, mares these days. They all wanted stallions to cater to THEM, when really, they should have catered to stallions! Huojin knew he was worthy of that kind of treatment, so why should he waste his time helping useless mares? Well, there was ONE reason. And that was to flirt, since there was one aspect of mares that was comforting. When mares talked though.. he just hated that! But, his judgment on mares depened on the situation. Right now he was being negative, because the mare was confusing. Usually, he was happy to be as polite as he could. But at the moment, he would see if this mare deserved that kind of treatment...

This time the sound was closer... the shadow was darker... Leaves crunched beneath somebody or something's feet a shadow loomed over her while the mare closed her eyes tighter. This was it, the end was near and she was going to be the first horse ever eaten by a bear... or one of the many taken down by a pack of wolves. She waited, for the sickening thud of the paw against her skull or the pain of wolves biting into her neck. The only thing waiting got her was a surprise, the sound of another's voice. It wasn't a nice voice but the words themselves were nice... Vieno was confused. Although, staring with her eyes closed probably wasn't smart.
Finally blinking curious, brown eyes open, Vieno looked to see a stallion standing in front of her. He was quite the site, rich warm brown colors with sparkling gold jewelry and hair as dark as night itself. The mare blinked as he continued to speak, her eyes darting around the area to check if they were truly alone. After him speaking quite a few sentences, the little color that had been left drained from the mare's face and she looked down at her hooves, ashamed. The stallion was basically telling her that she needed to stop acting foolish and he wasn't there to help her. She hadn't expected help really but... she knew she was being foolish.
"I... I... apologize..." the mare stammered as she backed up, bumping into a tree once again. A gasp escaped her muzzle and she sighed, making sure to look anywhere but directly at the stallion. "No, no one's following me," she continued after taking a deep breath, "I... well, you don't have to be involved with my silly problems... I'm sorry I caused you trouble." She truly was sorry, but it seemed all she did was cause problems lately.
How had she managed to get stuck in this forest anyways...? Vieno didn't exactly remember but she vowed never again. She hadn't realized it was so dark and frightening, had she known she never would have been in this position. Everyone made mistakes, hers just seemed to always be big ones...

Well, at LEAST she apologized. Huojin sighed dramatically, while waving his head back and forth. What a complicated mare, and what an even MORE complicated scenario. Was she trying to make him feel bad? How ridiculous was that! "Well whatever, I'm just glad to see you aren't in any real trouble." With a flip of his hair, the stallion sighed slightly while fixing his footing balance. He felt incredibly uncomfortable. That was already a bad sign to the current situation at hand...
"Well luckily no real trouble has come about." he then added, while glancing at the mare's hidden eyes. "What exactly are you hiding from anyways? There's obviously no one else here. Unless you've seen a monster." The setting was actually quite beautiful in his opinion, he hated when it was too bright, so he loved roaming around in the forests. This mare was definitely strange in his opinion, and on his endeavors he had never experienced a moment quite like this one. It had the potential to be entertaining, right?
"But anyways," he then said, with a light smirk. "If your lost or something, I'm sure I can lead you out of here. I'm just assuming you are lost, since you look completely helpless right now." MOST mares looked like that, he had only met a few independent ones in his life. With those mares he felt he could talk to on a real personal level, and even respect if possible. Was this mare even close to that? He was puzzled even thinking about it! "What's your name, random mare?" Or really, spook mare!

As always, her first opinion of the stallion didn't seem entirely correct. He seemed to care about whatever it was that was bothering her, just a little bit, even if he hadn't wanted to be a prince. Vieno felt quite foolish at that moment, knowing there had been nothing really to spook her or even give her much of a worry... the forest had been... the forest. It was awkward to be fully grown and still have such foolish fears, Vieno wasn't sure whether to feel ashamed or even worthless. For as long as she'd known she had a strange fear of the dark, the fading of the light caused her to become jumpy, skittish and very much unlike her normal self. Although nobody knew that because the mare didn't often explain her fear... it was one of those secrets she rarely told anyone...
"Thank you..." she replied, trying her best to stare at the stallion speaking to her and not glance around worried. Her eyes darted around a few times but she felt a bit better even though this Soquili had explained already that he was no prince. "There were no monsters and no troubles..." she sighed, unsure of how to explain to this stallion without telling the real reason, "I suppose I am lost." It would have been easy to say, simple, short and then it'd be over but she feared rejection. What if this stranger thought she was silly for fearing the dark, what if he teased her? ..and if he did it wasn't his fault... he didn't know what had happened to her... in the dark...
"You'd help me out of here? That's very kind," Vieno spoke softly, while glancing around, knowing she wouldn't be able to deal with this forest for much longer. It was still daylight outside, wasn't it? She hoped she'd still have time to go find a place to lay for the night... she didn't want to be caught in the dark forest AND the dark clearing. Shaking her head slowly and trying to be optimistic about the situation, Vieno nodded, "My name's Vieno, and what might your name be?"

"Huojin." he then said, with a newly developed raised brow. "And yes I'll help you, because if you stay in this area any longer, monsters will most likely appear." And then, she would be left as fodder to the random animals of the forest. "But anyways, just follow me and you'll be fine." With a discouraging grunt, the stallion then moved himself in the opposite direction, and showed Vieno a trail that was easy to find. "Aaand this leads us out up ahead." Jeez, didn't the mare know how to navigate in the forest? "Do you always get yourself lost?" he then asked, while keeping his head and eyes forward. "That's an awful habit you know."
Since he was going out of his way, there was no surprise at his use of unneeded honesty. AT LEAST at this point of the conversation, Huojin was somehow enjoying himself. The mare was completely helpless, so he looked like the smartest creature in the world at this point!
"So, I suppose I should ask some things about you, for conversation and politeness sake." he paused then, while turning his eyes on her. "What's your story, anyways? You seem a bit mysterious already, since you were sneaking around the woods yourself. Or maybe.. you are so unintelligent that you get lost all the time." with yet another pause, the stallion then blinked with enjoyment. "As you can see, I am dying to figure it out." his voice held its usual sarcasm, but for many that was hard to pick up. "What are you all about, Vieno?"

"Huojin, my, that's a wonderful name!" the mare exclaimed as she quickly darted behind the stallion and once again began looking around. He'd made a mention of monsters, and in broad daylight Vieno would have laughed and said there's no such thing but... darkness changed her. Luckily she didn't think illy of this stallion for being a bit rude, actually it was quite the opposite. Vieno now viewed this stallion as her saviour of sorts although she knew better than to fawn over him, she'd noticed that seemed to drive others crazy. She did add a soft compliment though, just to make sure the stallion knew she was grateful. "You're very brave," she whispered softly, "..wandering around with monsters about sounds... dangerous." She let out a deep breath when he explained the trail, she was going to be okay.
She felt horrible about getting lost in the forest, in fact she'd been so wrapped up in being lost in here that she didn't even realize how she'd gotten here. If anything, the mare was stubborn, she was determined not to reveal her biggest weakness. So, sighing and dropping her head while she followed close behind the stallion she admitted, "I don't even remember how I got in here... I don't... I don't really like the forest..." It was at least a start? ..and not everybody in the world had to like forests or anyplace for that matter. It was dark and creepy, and she'd now take care to only take shelter in the very edge of the forest where you could still see the clearing straight in front of you.
She was... unintelligent...? Okay so that one hurt, but it certainly wasn't the stallion's fault! She'd been the one to get lost in the words and she was the one who had to ask for help, and she was the unintelligent soul... Unintelligent hadn't been a word used to describe her before, neither was intelligent but she liked to think she was average at least. Sighing once again, her head fell lower, her long mane now dragging on the ground, "I suppose you're right... a mare isn't supposed to get lost in the forest," or forget how they came to be there, but she feared mentioning that part again...

Brave... ha! He liked to describe himself with all sorts of words, but he doubted brave was one of them. The mare was most likely complementing him just because it was polite, but Huo knew exactly how it was. He was a coward, but he accepted that fate gladly. "I'm not trying to imply that I like finding monsters. I personally ignore them, they are stupid creatures, lusting for blood or something. I'd rather waste my time in the desert!" With a light chuckle, he only gazed ahead while thinking about such silly circumstances. As IF he would ever hang out in a desert as well.. he really was quite difficult in personality.
"I suppose you should avoid trees from now on." He then added, while flicking his tail against a small passing branch. "They might turn into monsters." His voice was full of sarcasm, and he wasn't worried on whether she understood that or not. The mare seemed very on her toes, so playing around as such would prove itself to be entertaining. "So if you don't like forests, where do you go? Most of this land involves forests.." When he considered it, the mare was quite strange in her likes and dislikes. Maybe it would make more sense soon in the conversation.
At his other comment on her intelligence, Huojin noticed a drastic change in the mare's overall flow. He was so amused that he turned his head to even look at her, while shaking it mid way. "Goodness, I am but one opinion. Are you really going to listen to me that easily? That's not a good skill you know, others can boss you around easily. Is that what you want?" If it WAS, then she really was unintelligent. With yet another sigh, Huojin dragged his eyes back to the trail, before chuckling lightly at himself. "My goodness, you are just full of surprises! I couldn't imagine listening to what other people say.. its against what I do."

"Oh... the desert is nice too..." Vieno said absentmindedly as she looked ahead of Huojin. A clearing, she needed to reach a clearing... all this talk of monsters and lusting for blood was making the mare nervous. Not that she hadn't been nervous to begin with, no she was acting like a wreck.
"The trees they... oh!" the mare giggled softly as she heard him mention the trees turning into monsters, she was starting to feel better by now. What she hadn't noticed was Huojin's sarcasm, but then again... Vieno seemed to think everyone was filled with kindness and love. Sarcasm, hate, and downright rudeness were things this mare often overlooked. She liked to think the world was a beautiful place and even the most evil of beings had warm hearts deep down. "Trees... I didn't know they were so..." she paused for a moment, trying to find a word other than dark, and eventually came up with, "..dense.." That said, she tried to continue on, "I like open areas! Clearings... beaches... it's all very nice and open so you can always see who's about!"
"I suppose you're right... we just met do you don't really know me yet..." Vieno nodded slowly before taking a quick peek behind her. She saw shadowy trees and a dark forest which spooked her and she quickly moved forward. Accidentally bumping into Huojin caused a outburst of apologies from the mare before she looked at the ground in shame, knowing she had to stop looking around.

"Well, luckily we are here." as he finished his last words, the trees ended, and the bright and open field fell upon their view. "Is this better, spazz-mare? I hope no trees chase you here." And if they did, that would be freakin' weird. Huojin wasn't especially surprised by all of the weirdos in the land, it was something that came with nature. He WAS surprised that this mare had lasted this long in nature, though. She was too simple-minded, and her fears were ridiculous. Oh well. At least she hadn't seen the real dangers that roamed the land.
"Yes, I am right." he then chuckled, while shaking his head once again. Vieno would probably agree with him on that, and how boring was THAT. "Have you ever been taught on how to argue?" he then said, while raising a solid eyebrow. "Do you WANT to learn how to argue, and get some backbone in your system. If you don't, I don't need to waste my time."
Wasn't he wasting his time right now? Huojin grunted slightly, before focusing his attention on spazz-mare again. "Or do you refuse to change or something? You aren't confident enough for that sort of explanation, so that's why I ask." Huo on the other hand, would NEVER change, good god no. But Vieno.. she needed some attitude, and FAST. "Your just gonna get picked on forever." he then added, while moving himself to enjoy a tasty flower.

Spazz-mare? He thought she was a spazz now? Well, that was unfortunate, she'd never really considered herself a... spazz. "Nope, no trees will chase anyone here... that'd be silly, walking trees," the mare giggled, her bright personality shining now. As long as she was out in the open where there was lots of sun she felt she had nothing to fear, the mare was her usual self! Nobody had yet complained to her about her personality so perhaps they were either too polite to say anything or she wasn't quite as bad as this stallion thought. No matter, she didn't feel she needed to change herself, if she was spastic she'd have to accept that and continue her life happily.
"I don't really like to argue," the mare smiled and peered at Huojin, "Arguing doesn't really get you anywhere and I mean everybody has their own great opinions. Why doubt them until you're really sure, well really, really, sure, that what they have to say is well... wrong...?" She flushed and stepped back a step before sighing and shaking her head, long flaxen mane flowing with her every moment. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling... I seem to do that a lot lately..." she apologized, truly sorry for talking the stallion's ear off.
"Change..." the mare let the word hang for a moment before she smiled, warm brown eyes sparkling in the sunlight, "Change can be good but isn't always necessary. I think I like myself the way I am so I don't really have to change, do I? Of course... not everyone will like me... I wish they would but... everyone has their own opinions." She giggled silently and looked to the sky, "I guess even I don't like everybody... but I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, y'know? People like my fa..." The mare's eyes grew wide at her last sentence after she'd abruptly cut it off and she quickly looked away from the stallion.
Distraction, distraction, she needed something to distract her, she didn't want Houjin to try to finish that sentence. At that thought, the mare began to hum, the wind blowing her hair gently as she looked to the sky. "Would you like to go to the desert with me?" she asked, a bit shly, "I know you might have better things to do though."

"How can you not like arguing." he then said, while making yet another argument towards her. He wasn't picking up on his blatant action making at all. "Arguing is one of the greatest skills to life. Arguing makes everything not boring, and it also allows for two individuals to try and understand each other. But eh, like you said, everyone has their own opinions or something." he rolled his eyes slightly, before bringing them back to a level view. "Its better when everyone says what they want, so how the hell are you rambling right now? Aren't we sitting here, trying to understand one another? There is no rambling in that." The mare liked to apologize too much, but Huojin was mostly amused by such.
Huojin was strangely quiet at the mare's other sentence and words, and he only watched her as she made a brief mention of her father or something. Did she have a messed up family scenario as well? If she did, then it appeared that she and Huojin had more in common then he thought. "I can pretty much guess what you were going to say." he then said while interrupting her mind's thought. "I hate my mother, and there's nothing wrong with you not enjoying your father or whatever. Memories don't have to be rearranged in your mind as positive. My mother gave me hell, and I tried my best to give her the same treatment back. Growing up and getting the hell away from her is the best gift life could have given me." He shrugged then, while shaking his mane a bit. "Benefit of the doubt gets tiring after awhile, that's why its ok to just remind yourself why you hate something. Hate isn't the worst thing in life, it just makes things or memories easier to handle. Some memories are better off dead."
Her frantic sentence made him sigh a bit, since she was obviously a mess at opening up to her feelings. He was too, so he understood a bit. "I don't really care where you want to go." he then said, while raising his eyes to hers. "But I'm not busy or anything, and I don't mind chatting like we are. Especially since we may have made a connection that I didn't see as possible in the beginning. I can't let conversations like that get away." If he did, then he would go back to being lonely, and regretting words that he could have shared. "But if its the desert you want, I don't mind I guess."

She didn't quite know what to say at first, it seemed her apologizing upset him so she didn't want to do it yet again. Instead she tried to ignore the urge and toss out her opinion without well, arguing. "I suppose you could be right but... I like to think everybody can learn to understand one another with a little communication! I mean, we don't have to get angry or frustrated with one another to understand, do we?" the mare questioned, quietly. Of course, she was the type who believed anything could be solved if the ones involved were interested in solving it. Arguing just seemed like more energy was needed than necessary. But hey, who was she to judge his opinions?
Vieno wasn't quite sure she was ready to call upon the painful memories of her past, she'd tucked them away so long ago that it was hard to think about bringing them back. How much pain could someone take before they broke down? Shaking her head she sighed, trying not to be selfish, she knew there were those who were worse off in the world and complaining about her own life didn't help that any. On the other hand, it seemed like this stallion had a few things locked away that he needed to talk about and if he needed a listening ear, or two, she'd surely offer it. "Did you want to talk about it.. about your mother, I mean," Vieno questioned softly, not wanting the push the stallion into anything. His next statement puzzled her, but instead of replying she kept her thoughts to herself. Hate was a horrible thing, and she liked to keep it out of her thoughts the best she could.
"Oh the desert, it'll be so warm!" the mare danced on her feet, eyes sparkling, suddenly forgetting their previous conversation. It was obvious this mare took pleasure in small things, in fact... it was the reason she always continued to stay happy. Those who went about life ignoring the small things had a bland way of living, you had to take joy in everything, or so she thought. Suddenly she was pulled back to the conversation they'd been having and a more serious look took over her features. "Well, chatting can be nice... it's not fun talking to things that don't talk back," she giggled, thinking of the trees again.

"Arguing is communicating." he then said, with a usual relentlessness to his words. "Also, never assume that the individual arguing against you is angry or frustrated. Like now, I am just arguing in my natural manner, with no hate or frustration in my veins." Heh, she clearly had no experience arguing. That was amusing as hell. "Do you want me to be frustrated and angry? If I was actually that upset, you'd probably be crying right now." he then paused, and sighed somewhat. "And that would get us nowhere."
At the mare's next attempt at speech, Huojin could only roll his eyes, and turn them abruptly towards Vieno. "Do I look like the type of stallion who likes talking about that sort of thing? I said I like chatting, but not about my problems. Anyways, I was only giving you advice because it sounded like you needed it." Or, maybe she didn't? He wasn't sure if she was even listening sometimes, and he grumpily snorted at the thought of that. She did have a similar situation to him, so he found it in his heart to put up with her. Plus, she was overtly kind, so for him to shove her away would make him a devil of sorts. "Let's just figure out how to get to this desert area."
When Huojin looked around the area, he wondered just how the hell you find the desert anyways. His mother had taken him and Shen to the desert once, and Huojin of course was too young to be paying attention. "Where the hell is this desert." he then said, while blinking somewhat. "Pfft, who knows if I'll ever find it. Have you been there before?" It was hilarious that he couldn't even lead her where she wanted to go. That was frustrating him a lot, of course.

(( And here I thought you'd maim me for taking a month to reply. <3333 Tweek ))
Crying... Vieno definitely didn't want to cry, crying brought others down and she certainly didn't want to do that. It was upsetting at times, sacrificing your own feelings to save others misery but in the end it was oh so rewarding. She could see what he meant though, he didn't seem to be upset at all, well... maybe a little but not like most were when upset! Not wanting to say anything wrong, Vieno nodded her head, smiling and quietly said, "You're right, communicating can be done in many ways!" Someone had once told her she sounded strange agreeing to everything and having no real opinion of her own. The mare had opinions, many of them, so that wasn't true, she just wasn't sure how to relay them to others without well... upsetting them. Everyone's feelings mattered but her own, that was the way Vieno had been all her life.
"Well I..." she trailed off and looked thoughtful as well as confused for a moment. She'd managed to upset him again! That wasn't good, normally it was so much easier to discuss things with others. "I didn't mean to pry... I just thought... it'd be easier... for you I mean..." Vieno whispered softly, now looking as if she was trapped in a faraway place. The whispers continued, "I know... it's tough... I don't talk about it either... contrary to popular belief... some things are better left unsaid..." Once again she'd trailed off, seeming distant and distracted, as if she was calling upon memories she'd tried so hard to forget.
Now worried by her own memories, the mare looked back to the darkness of the forest half expecting something to jump out at them. After several long minutes of nothing happening, the mare finally calmed down and looked to Huojin, once again her happy self. "Well, maybe our adventure will be finding the desert!" she giggled happily and trotted away from the forest, mostly for her own benefit, "I imagine it'd be far away, nowhere near the river or the water." It was only an educated guess but it was something, then again... if she managed to get him lost she'd feel terrible. He'd been nothing but kind to her and here she was, dragging him off on an adventure.
