I Wanna Fall In Love!

Username: romesilk

Character Name: Anthony Arthur "Daub/Double-A" Andrews

Age: Early thirties. (Because he's spent a portion of his life time travelling and failed to keep an accurate record of time that passed, neither Daub nor I [his player] have any idea what his -exact- age is. It's definitely early thirties. Thirty-one or thirty-two, maybe? Thirty-four at the most.)

Sexuality: heterosexual

OC/Shop: Original Character

Description: Daub is an example of what happens when you give a man too many angles. He's a little too thin, all elbow bones and shoulder blades and knee knobs, so while he stands only five feet ten-and-a-half, he looks like he must be taller. His face is long, with pinched skin lightly weathered from his travels, and eyes a striking shade of bright orange that overwhelms the descidedly modest features of his face: his nose, ears, and mouth. At best, his mouth might be described as thin and taut, and his ears as tapering to his jawline. His nose is simply unremarkable, having been formed of the most unremarkably average bits available from his parents. He is crowned with a short mess of unruly ruddy brown hair that has seen its share of brushes and combs and won every battle. It sticks out wherever it likes and the only thing preventing it from taking him over completely is the conservatively short length.

While his hair does him no favors, Daub's choice in period fashion from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries gives him an air of sophicated distinction. He's a costume purist only when living in those time periods -- in more modern times (relatively speaking), he simply takes his pick of all the fashions from those eras and mixes them liberally. To his credit, his taste in fashion is impeccable, and he's smart in his choices and mixes things that work together, even if he ends up looking old-fashioned and outdated.

To see Daub walking is to understand the movement of a stick insect. He doesn't walk so much as stride with an almost comical ungainliness, but his embarrassing, loafing gait hides a man of surprising coordination, well-versed in both pratfalls and dance, capable of flourishing roses and handkerchiefs or even performing a few magic tricks, though his skills in prestidigitation are rather limited given his memory.

(Initial art will be drawn from this description, so be sure that you are thorough here. Typical clothing should be included as well.)

Personality: Daub is one of those people who is either sweeping you off you feet, being swept off his feet, or in a total dead stop. He has no grasp of anything between. Intelligent and funny, he nevertheless lacks a certain confidence, frequently second-guessing himself and turning to others for guidance. There was a time in his life when he had all the confidence in the world and merrily jaunted through history, but after experiencing two painful deaths of people he loved, he simply fell apart and that confidence has never come back to him. It's taken him years just to get to where he is today, and he's made loads of progress, but he still feels liable to make a mistake and relies a lot on others for guidance.

One of the things that defines Daub is the goodness of his heart. He truly cannot wish ill on anyone, even those who have slighted him. Sure, he can get angry and have a tiff with someone, and he even on rare occasions will disagree and argue, but in general he just hopes for the best for everyone, even people who probably don't deserve it. Especially people who don't deserve it, because they need it the most. Daub firmly believes that the evil in people isn't something innate but something learned through circumstance, and the circumstances that create evil are tragic and unfortunate and he just wishes no one would ever have to go through anything like that. Of course, you might say, he's a time traveller, he could just go back in time and prevent bad thigns from happening to people, but as intrinsic to Daub as his goodness is his belief in right and wrong. He firmly believes that it's wrong to interfere in the course of history, so as much as he'd like to find some way to go back and give everyone a perfect life, he can't. If anything were to shake this belief in right and wrong, Daub would probably not be able to live with himself. Right and wrong are the only ways he can justify the deaths of his loved ones. If right and wrong don't exist, his loved ones died for nothing.

Far from wallowing in depression all the time, Daub possesses an almost childlike enthusiasm for life. He loves to learn about new things and people and places. He can listen to others talk for hours, engaging and asking plenty of question, and he likes to share what he knows, too. He can blather on a mile a minute about the most silly things sometimes, but even when it's something random and pointless, he does it with such enthusiasm and energy! It can be quite infectious. He's always been inquisitive, always wanted to learn and share more, and he's at his happiest when he's learning with someone else. He's very much a people person and can't stand being alone for too long.

Daub suffered a memory problem as a result of his former career as a temporal regulator and his tragic losses, and his ability to remember things varies wildly from one day to the next. Sometimes, he wakes up and he's almost completely his old self, can remember names and faces and how to cook a pot roast and almost everything else buried in the corners of his brain. Other days he loses his train of thought every thirty seconds, can't get properly dressed, and can get lost and wander aimlessly. Ninety percent of the time, he's somewhere in the middle, losing track of his thoughts every so often, maybe forgetting to do things in the right order, but generally getting along just fine. You can tell his head's always slightly in the clouds, but it doesn't come off as a huge issue.

Admittedly, Daub is not the most stable person, and probably not the most ideal candidate for a dating service, but he does meet one improtant criteria: he's lonely and wants someone to spend his life with. He's lucky now in that he's got a bit of a family going, but neither his housemate n'Barit nor his (adopted) daughter Kirkcaldy can quite fill the need that another adult person can. He's worked so hard, come so far, and at this point in his life, a romance is the big piece missing.

He has dabbled a bit in the dating arena already. He was cast in a musical production of the Nightmare Before Christmas as Jack, and things got very heated between him and the woman playing Sally, but in the end Daub had to break it off because Annabelle wasn't ready for a relationship. A few months after that, he developed a crush on the maid, and while she eventually came to care for him a lot as a friend, it doesn't seem like there's a romantic future there, either. He's not a prude, he's rather progressive in his politics, and if you want to meet people, a dating service would seem to be a logical place to try.

(Another place to be as through as possible. We'll be using the characters personality to assist in matchmaking, so you want to be clear and complete.)
