Yeah I do origami. One of my aunts got me started on it years ago, and I learned alot from books. Where I live now, there's a club for it, but I haven't joined. Some of the people there do reallllly complicated stuff. It's pretty amazing.

Yep I do them too, but I've been trying to finish up on a 3-d dragon forever now. I just don't understand the instructions.

I'm addicted to folding. I've gotten to the point I don't even realize I'm making something, wondering hands and all... I just fold without thinking. Everyone I know always jokes: "Keep anything paper away from her, unless you want it turned into something else."
I've actually done a number of my own designs... some of which I end up not able to recreate (I made a grunny once, and ironically, it was even out of green paper!), as I rarely actually PLAN what I'm going to make.
Then I have to reverse engineer the project, just to have a schematic for it.... Then redo it, a few times, to make sure it works. It's very time consuming, writing out a plan for a new design.
Many of what I make are weapons or mythical/legendary creatures/objects. Normal things like flowers and birds just seem to get redundant after a while, don't you think?

My favourite design of all that I created, though... would have to be K9, from Doctor Who. Totally kawaii, and I love being able to create things that fit into my fave fandoms.

I enjoy origami, but my main love is jewelry making. Just saw an article on making origami beads, so I'll be combining the 2 things shortly. biggrin
I prefer single sheet/piece origami, but I've been looking at a particularly wicked dragon that is several pieces worked together--very tempting. Still, my next origami is a series of lampshades I want to build and hang in my bedroom. I have no overhead light ATM, so I plan to put in a ceiling fan and 2 or so oriental hanging lamps--I am a new home-owner, here me roar. Then hear me moan, swear, and complain as I figure out how complicated everything I want to do is. lol

wow, people actually replied. Added to my list of 3d stuff I can fold... star box
If you ever undertstand the instructions, I find that it helps if you connect them to things in real life. And, don't they have little pictures to help you understand?
And, I love making stars. You don't have to cut your own paper. If you are willing, you could always buy star paper. I wish I knew how to make a rose-star, though. Does anybody else know how?

I love origami too. I'm in the process of starting my own greeting card business and origami cards are my specialty.
I think part of the charm is using interesting and beautiful paper. I was afraid to use my good papers when I was learning but once I got over that I've found that it's really fun to create things because even if it isn't perfect it often still looks good.
When I was at a cherry blossome festival in San Francisco I picked up the most beautiful Washi papers, I'm seriously in love. heart
