Teppy woke with a start when she felt something very cold and very wet trickling about her ears. With a great jump she was on her feet, eyes darting about and wondering where it had come from. Where was she, anyway? Shrubbery surrounded the little filly from all sides.
Suddenly she remembered. The wide-open clearing in the bright sunlight that morning had made her nervous. She had fled to the safety of the trees after a moment of wary pacing. Somehow she must've drifted off to sleep and now it was dark outside. Teppy's ears swiveled forward as she heard a loud boom in the distance. It was cloudy now too... Teppy felt a little apprehension for being out alone in the dark. She stepped carefully from the bushes. The clearing didn't seem so scary, now.
"Aww, father's going to be unhappy with me..." she said shakily.

What had started out as a small walk to get a few moments to herself had gone on for much longer than planned. Samsara looked around her and still didn't see anything familiar. Where was she? Where were her parents? Her brow furrowed with nervousness that only heightened when she looked up at the dark sky. It still felt like day. Why was the sky turning dark so soon?
She gave a small jump when a droplet of water fell on her nose, shortly followed by another. What was this? She flipped her wetting hair out of her eyes and walked a little faster. When she heard the boom she broke into a run. Samsara ran as fast as her spindly legs could take her and barely managed to skid to a stop in front of another filly.
"What is happening?" she gasped, breathless.

Teppy stumbled back and fell right on her rump. "Woah!" The other filly had almost barreled into her from nowhere! She sat for a second with her back legs sprawled awkwardly about before getting back to her feet. A great patch of mud stained her white coat.
"Uhh... oops? I dunno, your guess is as good as mine," Teppy said softly, flicking her dirty tail sadly. Eww, mud. "There's water falling from the sky and it's night when it's supposed to be day..." The filly had never seen rain before, and she was finding the whole thing terribly confusing.

"I don't like it." Samsara shivered and moved beneath the branches of a tree. She felt lost and frightened. Why weren't her parents coming to find her? Her beautiful mother and her strong father... They should be here to tell her what had happened to the daylight!
She looked miserably from the clouds to her companion and then at the forest around them. "Are you lost too? I don't know my way back." Maybe the other filly would know where they were. If she knew then maybe Samsara could find her parents again!

"I-I think so ..." Teppy stuttered, the little filly thinking as hard as she possibly could. What was going on here? Did a monster do this? She didn't think for long. She looked hard at Samsara and her eyes widened in fear. "Y-you're not a m-monster, are you?" But before the other could answer Teppy bolted and dived into a shrub.
That filly was scary! She had shiny white... horns? And those wings, what were they for?! She had never seen anything like Samsara before. "G-go away!" she cried from the plant, the leaves shaking as she shook.

"A... monster?" Samsara watched as the other filly dove away from her, her own gold eyes wide with confusion. She took a step back uncertainly and her skin shivered where more droplets hit her. "I'm not a monster... I'm a filly..." Some of the hurt she was feeling crept into her voice. She had never been called a monster before.
"I'll go if you want me to." She desperately hoped the other filly wouldn't ask her to leave again. It was dark and frightening and if she left she'd be all alone again. Remembering her parents again, Samsara forced back a sniffle. Maybe she would never see them or her brother and sister again. That life would be horrible, especially if people kept calling her a monster.

Teppy's blue eyes peered out from the bush like two bright blue fireflies. She felt guilty now for calling Samsara a monster... after all, if she was mean she would've done something bad by now. Not to mention Teppy's words had obviously hurt her.
Now that Teppy had a companion in this scary situation, she wanted to make amends right away. "On s-second thought, you're too nice to be a monster..." she said softly, stepping away from the bush with utmost care. "I'm s-sorry... I'm just s-scared and confused. Don't go!"

The relief she felt at being called not a monster broke into a smile on Samsara's face. The tight spot she had felt in her heart was almost gone now and the storm didn't seem quite so scary. She had a friend now and that was-
A distant boom stood her fur on end and she dashed next to the other filly, huddling next to her for warmth and comfort. "I don't like this..." she whimpered. She had to tuck her wings in close to keep the wind from twisting them about her. "Maybe we could find somewhere to hide from it.... like... a cave or something..." Samsara had no experience with caves but knew what one was. At least that was something, even if she didn't know how to find one.

Now that Teppy looked at Samsara, she realized her wings were quite pretty. Like the butterflies that flew around her favourite apple tree. When the boom sounded Teppy began to shake again, and she was glad she had Samsara for company. "I-I don't think I've seen any caves around here, but l-let's look," Teppy said, her shaking giving her voice a stutter.
Suddenly a gust of wind blew harshly through the clearing and Teppy stayed close to Samsara. She felt more drops hit her nose, harder now. "I-I'm Teppy, b-by the way... I think we'd better get out of here!" But which way?

"I'm Samsara." It felt good to know the other filly's name. It made things a little less scary... and it meant that she probably wasn't going to get chased off any time soon. At Teppy's question, Samsara looked around and tried to decide which direction looked most promising.
"Maybe this way..." She pointed with her nose towards a grove of thickly leaved trees. "At least they'll keep some of the water off us... right?"

"Hmm... Samsara. Nice name! Okay, it's safer undercover too," Teppy answered while making her way over to the trees. The little filly wasn't going to hesitate out where what-knows could be watching them.
But Teppy made the mistake of brushing by a young tree. The gently curved leaves held water droplets and, with Teppy's motion, released the water. One leaf could only hold a little water, but when lots of them spilled... The filly gasped as she was splashed on the back. She stood oddly stiff under its chill. "Brr! the plants make good cover... just don't touch them!"

Samsara saw how soaked Teppy had gotten and tucked her wings in close. It wouldn't be good if she knocked one of them! Once under the cover of plants less of the water was hitting her, but it was too late to make herself any less wet than she already was. She flicked wet strands of mane out of her eyes and shivered her skin to try to get more of it off.
She looked over at Teppy. "Is it really... that strange to see a soquili like me?" she asked a little tentatively. Samsara hadn't realized that there was anything odd about her until this meeting.

Teppy shivered and shook herself, ridding her coat of as much water as possible. It smelled like dew and moist flowers. She skirted by the trees, traveling deeper and deeper into the forest.
When Samsara asked her question, Teppy couldn't meet her gaze. A little hesitantly she put together an answer. "Well, it is too me... none of my family members have wings or horns or anything. Though, I haven't met many soquili yet. Don't mind me," she said, with an embarrassed giggle. "I'm still really sorry."

Samsara nodded her head a little. "It's ok... I haven't met many soquili either. Only really my family and some of Dad's friends." Thinking of her father she gave a small sniffle. Where could he be? Maybe he'd never find her out here...
Trying to get her mind off that, she continued talking. "My family all has stuff like this. Dad has a weird tail and so does my brother. My mom has my wings and a different sort of horn. My other sister has different wings and a different tail too. I've never really met a soquili without all that stuff." She looked at Teppy again. "But you don't look that weird to me."

Curiously, Teppy looked over at Samsara and tried to imagine her family members. Though without much to go on, she had little success. She was a little stunned that they all had one feature or another that could be considered... unusual. With a smile she said, "Your family sounds great. Are you close? Mine is pretty close... My father, he's so protective he doesn't let me out of his sight half the time!" Her words were interrupted by her own little sniffle. Something inside her ached at the thought of them in this weather...
Putting on a brave face, Teppy stood up taller. "I'll help you find them! But first... shelter." She almost forgot why they were in the forest in the first place. The trees were getting thicker and the ground beneath dryer, but overhead the pitter-patter on the leaves told her that water was still falling from the sky. When the wind blew, some of it would escape to the ground below. Searching, she spotted a rocky place with a crack large enough to house a couple of fillies. "How about... there?"
