So I don't know if it's happening any where else, but in my state a few members of the gov't were actually considering lowering the Legal drinking age to 18 in public bars, but keepig it 21 to purchase from a liquor (sp?) store.
Honestly, I'm totally against it. We already have plently of car accidents and by lowering the drinking age I think that the number of accidents related to drunk driving would dramatically increase.
We had this discussion in school and these are two of the points that the students for it brought up. 1. Kids do it anyways, might as well make it more acceptable. 2. The bartender can tell you that you've had to much and call you a cab.
1.At least when they do it at home, they are safe in a home, not out in public where thousands of things could go horribly wrong really quickly. 2. Touche, the bartender can do so, but that's like a Casino worker telling you that you are spending too much money and need to go home. -_- Could they do it? Yes. Will they do it? Probably not, depending on the bartender. But do you really want to risk it all on one person?

Our legal drinking age is 18, and we can buy alcohol at 18 too (I'm gonna buy my dad beer for his birthday! biggrin ), so I don't really see the problem... sorry sweatdrop
I just don't see the whole 'zomg I'm now legal, must go get smashed!'... my parents were fine with us having a bit to drink well before we were legal, so we didn't think it was a great novelty to go drinking (also meant that I learned that I was allergic to alcohol early. Yay...?).

The thing is, is that here, most that drink aren't ready or responsible enough to handle it, and that makes it even more dangerous. I've had a little before, but one was a complete accident, and the others were for New Years with my parents, which is legal, and it was wine. -_- Even so I don't care for the taste. But I've heard a few stories where they (small group) and drank almost 2 full bottles of Vodka and Jack Daniels. Luckily they got caught before they drove home.

The problem is, legal or not, people will always find a way to do stupid things if they're that deadset on it (heck, my old drama teacher bought some of the class baileys when we were all underage), so... yeah confused
But it would probably be better to at least make it harder for them to get the alcohol sweatdrop so I don't really know, eheh.

I don't think the drinking age should not be lowered anymore than it is. I think, even though 18 is an age where you are considered an adult, I feel that 18 years aren't mature enough to possibly handle the alcohol content as well as someone older may. Alcohol is harmful as it is, and even though you are considered an adult at 18, your internal organs may not be matured enough to handle a glass of (for example) wine, as compared to a person who is the age of 31, (them having much more mature organs to handle the alcohol.)

I agree. 1. It should still be harder for people, even if they are deadset on it...if not the people that are too lazy have easier acess.
2. The body is still altering itself at 18. Like you said, the organs aren't ready for it. And it's even worse when you go all out the first time...

I think that people are going to get drunk if they want to get drunk no matter if it is legal or not. I think that it should be lowered because if you are old enough to go to war for your country and die for them you should be able to have a beer now and again. The other reason i think it should be lowered is that as we all know the people who want to get smashed are just rebelling against something. Either there parents or the law. If they lower the age limit the urge to get drunk will decrease

im totally against it and honestly wouldn't mind if more restrictions were put on alcohol use. a family member i used to be rather close to has become a full-fledged alcoholic, and its sad to see that she can get away with becoming so so easily.
yes kids will drink anyway, but making it difficult to do so by having it against the law is a good thing. some stupid kids will find away around it and manage to get liquor, but it becomes a difficult process to do so and comes with a risk that will put off a lot people from trying.

For no creatures under God are as we are...
Alcohol in masses might be poisonous. But so is absolutely everything else.
Too much from about anything is harmful.
...none so like him as ourselves.

The whole thing about the military and drinking doesn't really hold up, because I know for a fact that there are some bars on bases that allow them to have a beer or two, but nothing else. My mom went to one from time to time with her girls. I don't know if it applies everywhere, but for sure the one in Cali. Can't remember the name of the base though. >.<
I read an article recently that brought up another really good point if they were to lower the drinking age to 18. The bar owner mentioned that it was hard enough to keep the 18 year olds with fake I.D.'s out and that lowering the age to 18 would make it easier for even younger teenagers to get in. He mentioned how sometimes it can be hard to distinguish someone who's 18 from someone's who's 16.

if you can get married at 18. Smoke at 18 ,get any type of peircing or tattoo at 18, you can even vote and join the military at 18.
I don't see the problem with changing the legal age. Hell i was drinking at 15 anyways lol.
there are going to be stupid teenagers anyways and there are PLENTY of stupid adults.
so there ya go.Im for it. completely for it.
its either that or make everything else 21.

Also in the state of GA if your married and your underage but your husband isn't ..hes allowed to buy you alcohal. i just think its silly all around to have those technicallities.
