There had been a second, unmade sleepcouch in Jiri's room from the time of her arrival, and so far she hadn't paid much attention to it. Sometimes she shoved things she didn't feel like putting away on it, but she was generally pretty neat and so it remained, for the most part, empty.
Or, at least, it had. Upon returning from her morning lessons, Jiri discovered that the second sleep couch had, in her absence, acquired a set of blankets and, more perplexingly, a traveler's bag. She stared at it for a moment, confused. How'd that get there?

Pala entered her new room, carrying even more of her stuff, this time an already inhabited aquarium. Finally! Oh, she was so surprised when soon after entering the Academy her guardian came to pick her up. And he never even said why! But now she's back, hopefully this time for good... She was sure if something like this happened, she would never manage to learn all that was teached to them while she were missing!
The room that she were given to her when she first arrived had two sleepcouches, but she didn't have any roommates... But that changed while she was away - the girl saw all the obviously private items, lying on the second sleepcoach, and the shelves. She was wondering what kind of person her roommate will be, when she was going back for the rest of her belongings - and when she came back to her room with those, she had her chance to know that.
She placed her burden on one of free shelves, and waved to the new girl.
"Hello there!" She started with a huge smile on her face. "You must be my roommate. My name is Pala'olan, and yours?"

Jiri looked the girl who had just returned with... were those fish?... up and down, noting that, for one thing, she was bright red and that, for another, she had two fleshy tendrils where her hair ought to be. A twi'lek, then. She'd seen them from afar in the village a few times, off-world scientists and reporters and such. Somewhat awkwardly, she returned the smile. It was accompanied by a minute puffing of the bluish folds of skin around her eyes, the Yuuzhan Vong equivalent of the gesture. Human facial expressions were weird and showed too many teeth when you were trying to be friendly, she thought.
"I'm Jiri Yim," she said, trying not to use the tizowyrm. Her basic was getting better, but it was still convenient at the academy. She hastily kicked a drawer with what looked to be lichen growing out of it closed - she'd attempted to force her robeskin through cellular division, and one half was giving her a bit of trouble, though the other half had regenerated just fine.
"Did you just get here?" she asked.

"Kinda." She nodded. The girl seemed pretty nice, Though it took her a moment to guess her race - she didn't remember seeing a Yuuzhan Vong from this close. But thankfully her guardian's lessons were useful.
"I was here before you arrived, but Aisheel took me away. It took him a while to send me back here, and I guess I missed a lot." She put a hand on one of her lekku, and stroked slowly, something she often did when she didn't feel that comfortable. Repeating all those lessons will be hell!

"Oh," said Jiri, and decided she would try to be useful and friendly and see where it got her. "Do you need any help moving your stuff in?" she asked, motioning to the aquarium. She'd already decided that anyone who kept, of all things, an aquarium of actual fish opposed to some holographic or droid pet couldn't be all that bad.
She thought for a moment. Jiri had always considered this to be her room, and the news that it had been someone else's before her, and now that someone else was back, disturbed her a little. She felt oddly intrusive.
"I don't think it will be too hard to catch up," said Jiri, trying to push back the churning in her stomach.

"Thank you!" The girl smiled widely, letting go of her lekku. "But all my things are already here. Though.." She paused for a moment, thinking "Do you think this shelf will be solid enough? I don't want these guys to hurt themselves." She looked at the fish, which seemed to catch Jiri's attention. Nothing unusual, just some swimming.
"You think so? Hopefully you'll be right." She sighed, but kept her smile. She'll just have to work a bit harder.

Jiri looked at the shelf and frowned. Maybe, but she wouldn't trust it... The table under the window, on the other hand, that looked sturdy, and there appeared to be enough room on it.
"Try the desk," she suggested. "What kind of fish are they?"

"Good idea." The girl nodded, and moved the tank to the desk. It'll be good, at least for now. Maybe later she'll get a petter idea, especially since the desk might be needed for other things.
Hearing the second question, the girl started reciting the species names of the fish in her possession. They were all extremely rare, so there's a good chance the other girl didn't hear about them, but if she asked, anwsering is just common courtesy. Besides, Pala was proud of her little companions.

Jiri nodded. She'd never heard of any of those, but they were pretty to look at. Maybe they were from some far away world Jiri had never even heard of? (That would make sense, because beyond Zonama Sekot and Coruscant and places that were in stories, Jiri didn't know that many worlds.) Well, she'd take this as a learning opportunity, then!
"I'm from Zonama Sekot," she offered. "Where are you from?"

"Tatooine." She anwsered, and smiled wider "Though my mother was from Ryloth. Too bad I never saw her homeland. But Tatooine was fine." She added the last part quickly.

Jiri nodded sagely and sat down on her sleepcouch. "Tatooine is where the Skywalker was from," she said, recalling it from a story. "It's a good world for Jeedai."
She had heard of Ryloth in passing, but did not know much about it, other than a hazy idea of its location and that it was home to the multi-colored species with the fleshy head tentacles. Twi'leks. Like Pala'olan was.
"It must be a good omen," she added. "It means you'll become a great Jeedai!"

"..do you really think so?" Pala never thought about it that way. Sure, she was born there, but so did many other people, and most of them didn't become second Skywalkers just like that... But maybe, just maybe, she rilly will manage to accomplish something here..?

"For certain," nodded Jiri. It was at times like these that she really bought into bedtime stories. And from her observations, complements were the best way to get onto friendly terms with people.
"Do you have anything else you need to bring in?" she asked.

"No, that's all." The girl smiled. This looks like it'll turn out pretty nicely, the whole roommate thing. And she'll have someone to talk to in the evenings.
She once again looked at her things, and nodded in approvement, then turned to look at the other girl.
"So..." she started "...what do I do now?"

"Well," said Jiri, inspecting the fish tank as she made a frantic attempt to clear some of her things off the desk. A villip bounced onto the floor, made an indignant squelching noise, and rolled under her sleepcouch. "This is a school," she continued, diving after it. She re-emerged a moment later, dustier for the wear but with the living communications device recaptured.
"There are always lessons," she said, tugging a stubborn drawer open, shoving the villip in with the misbehaving robeskin, and kicking it closed again. "The masters will be happy to see you back. I think."
She paused, considered her storage choice, and pulled the drawer open again. She didn't want the villip and the robeskin to assimilate, after all. She pulled the villip out and tossed it onto her sleepcouch, and kicked the drawer shut once more.
"Sorry about that."
