Okay, this may not be the most intelligent topic but I just found out today that
soda doesn't expire. Isn't that weird. So, if I put a can of coke in the fridge and
then thirty years from now it will be safe to drink?
.
But that isn't what I wanted to talk about. It's mountain dew. It is impossible for it
to be soda because it EXPIRES. So since soda doesn't expire mountain dew isn't
soda. How crazy is that!

I won't comment to the effect of expired diet sodas, as I'm certain the aspartame or whatever is in them just gets shittier for your body with time, however the expiration date printed on soda bottles is truly just the expected date that it'll get that lightstruck taste and will no longer be reasonably fizzy.
This may not apply to sodas that have larger amounts of organic flavours in them [like something particularly flavoured with fruits], but I still think they could survive for about ten years or so.
I think as long as the coke is kept cold, and not exposed to radiant light, it wouldn't kill you.
I just wouldn't want one.

i think that as long as it isnt opend then in therory it should last a lot longer then if it is opened. but to point out soda has a lot of sugar, and sugar can be kept a long time provided it meets a few conditions, 1, it is kept away from vermin(insects, moistier, little kids/other people), it is kept in a secure container. then it could last a long time but since pop is a liquid then as soon as its opened up then it will expire i think

dreams into nights yami it is kept away from vermin(insects, moistier, little kids/other people), Very nice. I may or may not be included in the "little kids/other people" part of that. stare lol
But it does expire after about a week or so if its opened..... I may or may not have left it in my room for a while. In a small cup......

Maybe Mountain Dew is just a carbonated beverage and not actually soda at all...

I don't really like Mountain dew So I say it should be kicked off the soda lists. But that's just me. Oh, and the shasta tiki punch I'm drinking right now says it expires February 2nd 2009. Does that mean it's not a soda either?

Well, that's saying that soda is defined as a fizzy drink that does not expire. I'd think more that most soda's expire, but some do not.
Mountain Dew! The official sports drink of Dungeons and Dragons! ...and disgusting

I think that they have to put an expiry date on all foods that you buy, even stuff like honey which has so much sugar in it, that the only way it would be unfit for consumption is if you left it open and ants got in. Even so, I don't think that soda goes off, so that means that mountain dew can still be a soda.
I wouldn't want to try diet soda after the expiry date though. My friend had some once and said it was pretty nasty.

Soda doesn't expire, it just becomes flat and icky.
Unless you like flat soda, there's a sort of expiration date.

Whether or no a product expires does not make it what it is. Just because fresh veggies that are not frozen expire before frozen ones, does that make one of them not a veggie? No, it is still a veggie.
By definition, a soda is carbonated water with some flavoring and added sweetness. Therefore, Mountian dew is still a soda. It just contains ingredients that expire, or they may have just put a date on there to save themselves from people who save the drink for 30 years, then say "THIS SODA IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD STILL. ITS NOT. I'M GOING TO SUE YOU." Because there are people out there who will do things like that.

It becomes flat and gross. Who'd want to drink soda/pop like that? I hate that awful super-caramel flavor that comes along with flattened pop.
